Chapter Three: Are You Still That Wife-Slave?

While He Lingchuan was working on his computer, Shen Yanxi suddenly pushed the door open and said, "It's getting late, and it'll be a hassle to take a taxi back, so I'll let Mingyan stay at home. Anyway, there are plenty of guest rooms here."

He Lingchuan didn't even look up, and simply hummed in agreement: "Whatever makes you happy."

Shen Yanxi was not used to his cold attitude. She frowned and was about to say something.

He Lingchuan suddenly closed his laptop and said, "Then you should get some rest too. I'll sleep in this guest room tonight."

Shen Yanxi stared at him in astonishment, wondering if she had misheard: "What did you say?"

Even when she resists, he usually insists on holding her and sleeping with her at night. But today, he actually suggested sleeping in separate rooms? Has he gone mad?!

He Lingchuan thought for a moment and reluctantly gave an excuse: "I have something to do tomorrow and need to get up early. I don't want to disturb your sleep."

How could Shen Yanxi possibly believe his nonsense? She rubbed her temples, feeling a bit of a headache.

"Stop making a scene, okay? Mingyan is a guest. You won't help me entertain him, fine, but now you're giving me this attitude."

"You started sleeping in a separate room from me as soon as he arrived. What are other people going to think?"

He Lingchuan looked at her with some confusion, wondering why she was reacting so strongly.

Zhou Mingyan is here. Shouldn't she be happy that we're sleeping in separate rooms? What will Zhou Mingyan think? He'll be overjoyed, of course.

Before He Lingchuan could speak, there was a knock on the half-open door. He Lingchuan looked up.

Zhou Mingyan was not wearing any clothes, only a scarf around his waist, revealing his perfect figure.

He smiled a little embarrassedly and said to Shen Yanxi, "Xixi, I don't have any pajamas. Can you help me find one?"

Shen Yanxi immediately shifted her attention from He Lingchuan to Zhou Mingyan and replied, "Okay, I'll help you find it now."

As soon as the two left, He Lingchuan closed the door and locked it.

He went to bed after taking a shower, but despite being exhausted, he couldn't fall asleep.

He Lingchuan couldn't sleep all night, so he got up early and went for a walk around the villa area. He had breakfast at a breakfast shop before driving to find Gu Chengze.

Standing at the entrance of the company they had started together, He Lingchuan was momentarily dazed, feeling as if he didn't know what year it was.

When he entered Gu Chengze's office, Gu Chengze immediately rushed up and gave him a bear hug: "My dear President He, you've finally come back after all. I've missed you so much."

As he spoke, he grabbed He Lingchuan's face and was about to kiss him.

He Lingchuan pushed him away with a look of disgust: "Be more reserved. Here, I brought you breakfast. There's soup in it. Be careful not to spill it."

Gu Chengze accepted it with a touched expression: "How did you know I hadn't eaten breakfast?"

He Lingchuan raised an eyebrow: "If you could eat breakfast on time, you wouldn't be you."

While Gu Chengze was eating, He Lingchuan glanced at his office, which was much larger and more upscale than their old office when they started the business.

During his university years, He Lingchuan was a well-known genius in the Computer Science Department of University A. In his junior year, he won the highly recognized Artificial Intelligence Award.

He secured investment and started a company, which was publicly acknowledged by Professor Zhao, the most outstanding professor in their college, who said that He Lingchuan was his proudest student.

Everyone thought he would have a bright future after graduation, but He Lingchuan left the team after getting married and disappeared from the industry. Every time his group of brothers talked about this, they felt sorry for him.

Gu Chengze looked up and saw He Lingchuan's slightly bright eyes. He paused for a moment and said, "When you come back, your office won't be any worse than mine. Don't be envious."

He Lingchuan chuckled: "I'm not envious, but I'm worried that I'll become out of touch with current AI technology and won't be able to help the company much."

After all, AI technology is evolving and iterating too rapidly these days.

He's been out of the industry for several years; I don't know if he can catch up.

Gu Chengze closed the takeout lid: "What are you afraid of? No matter how fast it updates and iterates, the core is still the same old thing."

"I believe in you. As long as you are determined and focus on your work, you will be able to catch up with the industry very quickly."

That makes some sense.

He Lingchuan nodded, and was about to speak when his phone rang first.

He glanced at the incoming call, hesitated for a moment, and then answered it.

As soon as the call connected, Gu Beichen's complaining voice came through: "Dad, where did you go? Why didn't you wake me and my brother up?"

"It's all your fault! We're going to be late for school!"

As he spoke, there was a rustling sound, which meant someone was helping them get dressed.

He Lingchuan lowered his eyes, staring at his palm, and said without changing his expression, "Didn't you always complain that I woke you up too early? Now that I'm letting you sleep as much as you want, isn't that just fulfilling your desire to sleep in?"

He had barely finished speaking when Shen Yanxi's angry voice came from the other end.

"He Lingchuan, what kind of attitude is this? How can you teach a child like this? Do you want to raise a child who goes astray?"

Shen Yanxi was so angry that she asked three questions in a row. Suddenly, He Lingchuan felt a tightness in his chest and felt a little uncomfortable.

He said, "Don't worry, I will never interfere with the children's education again. You don't need to worry that I will lead them astray."

He Lingchuan chuckled self-deprecatingly: "I'm really not good at educating children, otherwise they wouldn't have been so easily fooled by Zhou Mingyan."

Suddenly, the sound of a backpack hitting the ground came from the other end of the line. He Nanchen angrily yelled into the phone, "You're not allowed to talk about Uncle Zhou like that! He's not the kind of person you're describing!"

In the past, even over the phone, He Lingchuan would teach He Nanchen never to break things, no matter how angry he was.

But this time, he acted as if he hadn't heard, didn't answer, and hung up the phone directly.
