Chapter Fifty-Five: Uncle Zhou Can't Bear to Part With You

"We'll find out later whether it's nonsense or not."

He Lingchuan's eyes were cold. His gaze swept quickly over the two of them before he turned and returned to the ward.

He can't leave because his two children need someone to take care of them.

As for Shen Yanxi and the others, let them go wherever they want; he couldn't care less.

...

After nearly a week in the hospital, they were finally able to go home. The day after Nan Chen and Bei Chen were discharged, it happened to be the parents' meeting, and He Lingchuan was confirming the start date of school with the children.

This wasn't the first time he'd attended a parent-teacher conference for both of his children, but it was the first time since the divorce.

He was worried that the teacher wouldn't let him in.

The next day finally arrived, and He Lingchuan saw Zhou Mingyan, dressed impeccably, as soon as he reached the door.

He mingled with a group of parents, intending to go in with them.

He Lingchuan grabbed his wrist and pulled him aside: "This is not a place for you."

He caused the children to be hospitalized, and he still has the nerve to come to their parent-teacher conference?

"Why not? Have you forgotten that the children have always called me Dad?"

Zhou Mingyan pushed his shoulder away, trying to return to the group of parents, but He Lingchuan grabbed his elbow from behind: "I don't want to lay a hand on you here, get out of here."

This was the first parent-teacher meeting after the children were discharged from the hospital, and He Lingchuan took it extremely seriously.

He pressed Zhou Mingyan against the wall and used his elbow to brace against his neck: "Don't try to force me. This is a school. I don't want to get into a conflict with you. I'd be ashamed."

He Lingchuan warned Zhou Mingyan in a low voice, "If you follow me again, I'll break your legs."

Although he knew he couldn't really do that, Zhou Mingyan was still a little scared.

He stood at the door without going in, calling Shen Yanxi while waiting for the two children.

When Shen Yanxi arrived with the two children, Zhou Mingyan immediately ran to her side: "Xixi, Mr. He has also arrived."

He deliberately whispered in Shen Yanxi's ear, glancing at He Lingchuan out of the corner of his eye.

“I told him I would come, but he just didn’t believe me. He even told me I couldn’t do a good job at this parent-teacher conference.”

Shen Yanxi's previously kind face instantly darkened. She walked towards He Lingchuan and questioned him, "What are you doing here?"

"It's a parent-teacher conference, can't you see?"

Shen Yanxi pulled He Lingchuan's hand and pointed to Zhou Mingyan beside her: "The two of us can come, you don't need to."

"I'm the child's father, why should someone else do it for me?"

Zhou Mingyan stood aside listening to the two of them muttering, and he became even more anxious.

His gaze toward He Lingchuan was full of hostility: "I will hold a good parent-teacher conference for the children. You don't need to come at all."

“I said I was the father of the child, so I had to come.”

The two were locked in a stalemate, leaving the two children watching from the sidelines completely bewildered.

When they weren't paying attention, Nan Chen gently tugged at Shen Yanxi's finger: "Mom, are you really going to change our dad?"

Shen Yanxi paused, thinking that the two children still wanted Zhou Mingyan to be their father.

She knelt down and asked the two children what they thought: "Do you want to change your dad?"

Shen Yanxi had already made a plan: if the two of them said they wanted to, she would change their minds back while Zhou Mingyan was away.

After all, He Lingchuan is their biological father, and they must accept reality.

"I don't want that."

"I don't want that either, I love my dad."

Bei Chen bit her lower lip and cautiously asked Shen Yanxi, "Mom, can we not change Dad?"

Shen Yanxi looked relieved. She smiled and patted the two children's heads: "Put them down. Mommy will never change your dad. Pinky promise, okay?"

"good."

Looking at the smiling faces of the two children, Shen Yanxi suddenly felt that everything she did was worthwhile.

She stood up, holding her two children's hands, and found that Zhou Mingyan and He Lingchuan were still arguing about the parent-teacher meeting.

Sensing her gaze, He Lingchuan looked past Shen Yanxi and at the two children: "Nanchen and Beichen, would you like your father to attend your parent-teacher conference?"

"think."

"think."

The two children spoke in unison, and Zhou Mingyan, unable to gain their approval, stomped his feet in frustration.

He crouched down and hurriedly grabbed the two children's shoulders: "Sweeties, don't you want Daddy Zhou to attend your parent-teacher conference?"

Zhou Mingyan took two toys out of his pocket: "Daddy Zhou brought you some fun things, do you want them?"

"Thank you, Dad Zhou, but we already have a dad."

After saying that, Nan Chen ran to He Lingchuan and said, "We can just have Dad hold a parent-teacher conference for us."

Bei Chen chimed in from the side, dodging Zhou Mingyan's outstretched hand: "Uncle Zhou, I also want my dad to attend our parent-teacher conference."

Zhou Mingyan was humiliated, and his face turned pale.

He stepped forward, trying to regain the children's trust: "Daddy Zhou can take you out for delicious food and fun activities, and Daddy Zhou won't tell your mom if he hears the teacher scolding you."

Zhou Mingyan started negotiating with them right in front of Shen Yanxi, completely unaware that Shen Yanxi's expression was beginning to turn ugly.

Nan Chen and Bei Chen exchanged a glance, still holding the same thought as before: "We still want Dad to attend the parent-teacher conference for us."

“Yes, we have a dad now, Uncle Zhou, you don’t need to be our dad anymore.”

The two children always spoke their minds, and Zhou Mingyan looked at them in disbelief.

He had a feeling of being abandoned.

He cupped his face in his hands, his eyes filled with grievance: "You... you don't need Uncle Zhou anymore?"

His voice trembled slightly as he spoke, and his eyes were filled with hatred as he looked at He Lingchuan. However, when he met Shen Yanxi's gaze, he looked aggrieved.

He tried to evoke the two children's affection for him by recalling the past: "Do you remember what Uncle Zhou gave you when you first met him?"

Zhou Mingyan began to reminisce about the past: "Didn't you all like Uncle Zhou a lot back then? Don't you like Uncle Zhou anymore? If that's the case, Uncle Zhou won't be able to give you candy anymore."

Since neither of the children called him "Dad Zhou," Zhou Mingyan felt embarrassed to call himself their father.

He could only use words that the two children could understand to help them recall the past.

Before he could continue speaking, Nan Chen interrupted him directly: "Uncle Zhou, we can't eat snacks now."

Zhou Mingyan tilted his head, not quite understanding what he meant.

"So, if you don't want to give it to me, then don't."

"Dad will cook for us."

Zhou Mingyan froze, stunned, unable to believe what the two children had said.

Do they really not need me anymore?

He looked aggrieved, his eyes red-rimmed, and hugged the two children in his arms: "But Uncle Zhou can't bear to leave you, Nanchen, Beichen, please don't leave Uncle Zhou, okay?"
