Chapter 186 Fierce Battle

As night fell, the whole world seemed to be shrouded in thick, inky darkness.

Inside the Chaoyang Garrison, flames soared into the sky, illuminating the entire battlefield. The sounds of fighting were deafening, as if even the earth itself trembled.

Shen Hanshan donned his long-unworn armor, held a long sword, and, along with Xu Hui, who was dressed similarly, stared sharply at the enemy army before them—the medicine-wielding army from Yunluo.

Before this, the people who came to the garrison to inquire were ordinary soldiers, but the soldiers who came now seemed to be able to "come back to life" were the medical doctors of Yunluo, and the drug people developed by Li Liang, the senior brother of the medical saint Zhang Jing who was expelled from the sect.

These drug-using beings seemed tireless, fighting like madmen, a sight to behold.

This fierce battle continued from the fall of night until the first light of dawn, and it was still not over.

As Shen Hanshan and Xu Hui watched their brother gradually fall, a chill ran through them, and they became even more anxious.

They tried many methods, but couldn't find any weakness in these drug-infused people. These people seemed impervious to weapons; no matter how they attacked, they couldn't be completely eliminated.

"Hopefully Li Xiaotian can bring the Medical Sage back in time, otherwise, our garrison will truly be wiped out," Xu Hui said dejectedly.

It turns out that the play they staged during the day was to let Li Xiaotian go to Yunchao. A few days ago, when Shen Hanshan went to Yunchao to find Zhao Zhi, she told him that there was a mysterious army in Yunluo and gave him a copy of Yun Zhang's notes.

After reading the note, Shen Hanshan connected it with the poison Cui Shenghe had been poisoned, and after thinking it over and over, he vaguely felt that something was wrong.

He was never worried that Zhao Zhi would launch a major attack on her motherland after becoming the empress of Yun Dynasty. However, Yun Dynasty was not without other people with ulterior motives. After arriving at the garrison camp today, he listened to Li Xiaotian's description and deduced that the people who came to gather military intelligence were from Yun Dynasty.

But these people don't seem to be ordinary soldiers.

Therefore, he had a bold guess: could it be that the leader on Yunluo's side intentionally provoked a war between the two countries so that he could reap the benefits?

Shen Hanshan immediately sent someone to invite Zhang Jing, only to learn that Zhang Jing had already gone to Yunchao. After much deliberation, he decided to invite Zhang Jing back to find out just how many land cards Li Liang in Yunluo actually held.

Perhaps only the medical sage Zhang Jing can find the weaknesses of these drug-using people and resolve this crisis.

"Your Highness, be careful!" Xu Hui cried out in alarm, and his spear, instead of striking, pierced Shen Hanshan's arm.

Shen Hanshan groaned in pain, but showed no sign of panic. He quickly drew his sword and swept it horizontally, forcing the drugged man back a few steps. At the same time, he tightly gripped his wound with his other hand, and blood dripped down his arm onto the cold ground.

"It's alright, let's continue the fight!" Shen Hanshan's gaze was firm, and his voice was steady and powerful.

Seeing this, Xu Hui felt a surge of admiration. He quickly adjusted his state and fought alongside Shen Hanshan. The two cooperated perfectly, their sword shadows and spear lights intertwining into an impenetrable net, trying to tear a crack in the endless darkness.

But the army of medicine-men seemed endless; they were tireless and fearless of death, and every time they fell, they could quickly get up and continue to attack.

Shen Hanshan and Xu Hui were gradually exhausted, and the number of soldiers around them was also decreasing. A sense of despair filled the air.

Just then, the sound of hooves came from afar, accompanied by a loud horn. An elite cavalry force swept in like a black storm, heading straight for the center of the battlefield.

Leading the group was a woman, dressed in armor, straddling a sturdy horse. Her figure rose and fell with the horse's movements, swaying the pool of spring scenery.

"It's His Highness! His Highness has come to save us!"

In the midst of the battle, someone shouted something. A deafening cry, "Kill! His Highness has come to save us—", rose and fell, deafeningly loud.

Zhao Zhi looked down at Shen Hanshan from a distance and exchanged a glance, then gestured for him to shut up.

Shen Hanshan immediately understood and used his internal force to transmit his voice, "All soldiers, listen to my command, cover your mouths and noses!"

At the same time, Zhao Zhi covered his mouth and nose with one hand, loosened the reins with the other, squeezed the horse's belly with both legs, and galloped around while scattering some foul-smelling powder.

Upon smelling the powder, the people who had been drugged collapsed and slowly turned into mummified corpses.

Then, another group of people arrived, led by Li Xiaotian, followed by several disheveled but determined-looking followers, as well as Zhang Jing, the medical sage who had been urgently recalled.

"Damn it, it stinks!" Li Xiaotian was a step behind and covered his nose, unable to help but curse.

After a while, the stench gradually faded, and everyone finally relaxed their mouths and noses.

Zhao Zhi jumped off her horse and flew towards Shen Hanshan. She stood beside him and looked at his blood-stained clothes, her eyes reddening.

"Did you fight like this, recklessly and without regard for others, on the battlefield in the past?"

Li Xiaotian helped Zhang Jing slowly dismount and called out, "Your Highness is far more dashing on the battlefield than he is here!"

"Master Zhang, thank you for your hard work!" Shen Hanshan disregarded his own injuries and hurriedly stepped forward to apologize to Zhang Jing.

"It's really been hard work," Zhang Jing said, rubbing his aching back. "I've been running around day and night, and my back is almost broken. But you're my granddaughter's husband, so I have to help you out, even if it's tough!"

He looked around at the ravaged garrison camp and sighed heavily, "Alas, it's all my senior brother's fault. If Zhizhi and I hadn't foreseen this turn of events, we probably wouldn't have been able to stop it."

It turned out that when Zhao Zhi and Zhang Jing had arranged to go to Yunluo, they suddenly learned of unusual activity in Yunluo, as well as in Chaoyang County. They immediately realized that this was no ordinary matter.
