Zhu San Niang slowed her pace, glancing at her younger brother out of the corner of her eye.
Qin Yu's face was no longer the youthful one it once was, but instead bore the marks of time and fortitude, yet his eyes still shone with an indomitable light. He kept his head down, seemingly unwilling to meet anyone's gaze, but Zhu San Niang recognized him at a glance. At that moment, her emotions were complex and indescribable.
She wanted to acknowledge him, but she also knew that meeting without recognizing him was the best outcome at this moment.
After walking for a while, Zhu Sanniang suddenly forgot why she had come to the street. She wandered aimlessly until dusk fell and the stars filled the sky.
The guards behind her followed silently, not daring to urge her on. They knew that this Imperial Guard was a favorite of the Empress, assisting her in handling state affairs, and was comparable in status to the Prime Minister.
