When Yunzhang arrived at Chunzhao Palace, he found that all the lights inside had been extinguished.
The palace, shrouded in night, was exceptionally quiet, and a nameless anxiety welled up in Yun Zhang's heart.
"Your Majesty, His Majesty is feeling tired today and has already rested," Cuiyun said respectfully, stopping Yunzhang.
As she spoke, she glanced nervously at her location inside the hall.
Yun Zhang frowned, a hint of impatience flashing in his eyes.
Looking at the loyal palace maid before him, a nameless rage rose within him. "Get out of my way!" he shouted furiously.
“Your Highness, His Majesty has already given orders that no one is to disturb us.” Cuiyun’s voice trembled slightly, but remained firm. She knew Yunzhang’s temperament and his noble status, but she understood His Majesty’s orders even better.
Looking into Cuiyun's resolute eyes, Yunzhang suddenly felt a bad feeling. Normally, His Majesty wouldn't issue a strict order forbidding him from entering the Chunchao Palace.
Something unusual must be going on!
"Cuiyun, I have urgent business to discuss with His Majesty. Please step aside."
Cuiyun looked at Yunzhang, her heart wavering. She knew Yunzhang's temperament and his urgency. But she also knew the Emperor's order; she could not disobey it.
Moreover, the situation inside is really not suitable for Yunzhang to go in!
She took a deep breath, trying to remain calm, and said again, "Your Majesty, His Majesty has already rested. Please return tomorrow."
Just then, the faint sound of a woman's panting came from inside the hall.
Yun Zhang's face turned ashen instantly. He stared wide-eyed at the tightly closed palace door in disbelief.
Cuiyun's face also turned pale. She knew what the voice meant, and she couldn't help but feel a pang of sorrow for Yunzhang.
"What's going on?" Yun Zhang's voice was low and suppressed, as if he was trying his best to control his emotions.
Cuiyun bit her lip; she knew she could no longer hide it. "Your Highness, Her Majesty...she..."
Yun Zhang clenched his fists, feeling a surge of anger burning in his chest. "Speak! Keep talking!"
Cuiyun lowered her head, not daring to look Yunzhang in the eye, and pleaded in a trembling voice, "Your Majesty, please...please spare me!"
Yun Zhang took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down.
He knew that Cuiyun was merely following orders; the real answer lay behind the tightly closed palace door. He suddenly turned and strode towards the door, preparing to force his way in.
"Your Highness, you can't do this!" Cuiyun hurriedly got up from the ground and tried to stop him.
Yun Zhang shoved her aside, a resolute glint in his eyes. "Get out of my way! I must see His Majesty!"
Cuiyun was pushed to the ground. She looked at Yunzhang's back, stamped her foot helplessly, and then shouted loudly into the hall, "Your Majesty, the Imperial Noble Consort requests an audience!"
She knew that once Yunzhang barged into the palace, it would trigger an unpredictable storm.
Yun Zhang suddenly pushed open the door, and a gust of cold wind carrying the lingering ambiguous atmosphere of the hall rushed in. He was stunned, and the scene before him was like a sharp blade, piercing straight to his heart.
The candlelight was dim, but enough to illuminate Zhao Zhi's intertwined figure with a strange man. Their posture was intimate and taboo, a level of closeness he had never seen before.
So, was it because the Empress was afraid that he would discover her affair with another man that she had Cuiyun desperately try to keep her out?
Great! Excellent! Absolutely wonderful!
