"Didn't you say you saw your second sister come back? Why isn't she home yet?" Zhao Yun muttered impatiently.
“Miss, I did see the Second Miss. She was accompanied by an unfamiliar aunt. The way that aunt spoke and walked was just like Aunt Lanru and Aunt Fenghong from the Princess’s residence!” Yu Ming was convinced that the woman she saw must be the Second Miss who had not been seen in the mansion for many days.
"Since you were sure that person was Second Sister, why didn't you bring her home?!" Zhao Yun said angrily.
"I wanted to go up and talk to the Second Miss, but every time I took a step closer, some strange person would separate me from her," Yu Ming said, looking aggrieved. It wasn't that she didn't want to talk to the Second Miss; it was just that she couldn't find an opportunity to speak to her.
Zhao Yun sneered, "I thought she married into a good family, but it seems she's been kept like a pet. What a disappointment. Go back to the courtyard! Yu Ming, don't tell Mother and Father about this, so they won't worry."
"Understood, Miss."
After listening to the conversation between the master and servant, Xu Hui quietly reminded the driver to continue at a normal pace. He glanced at Li Huai'an out of the corner of his eye and, seeing that he looked preoccupied, comforted him, "Don't listen to Yun'er. Zhi'er's status is now incredibly high, and she lives a more comfortable life than any of us."
Hearing Xu Hui say this, Li Huai'an suddenly looked at him. "Sir, do you know Zhizhi's husband?" After a pause, he seemed to remember something and muttered to himself, "How could I forget? Uncle Zhao is your mentor, so you should know Zhizhi."
“Yes, I recognized Zhiya the moment I saw her at the market. But she’s rarely home, so she’s quite unfamiliar with me and it’s normal that she didn’t recognize me,” Xu Hui said with a faint smile. “As for Zhiya’s husband, he’s someone we can never reach. Huai’an, listen to me, ‘What is destined to be yours will be yours, and what is not, you cannot force.’ Fate cannot be forced. Don’t let your obsession hurt yourself and others.”
"Thank you, sir. I will keep it in mind."
Li Huai'an nodded slightly, but his mind was in turmoil.
He and Zhao Zhi were childhood sweethearts with a deep bond, but fate played a cruel trick on them. Now he was exiled and Zhao Zhi married into a wealthy family. How could he easily forget her?
Although Xu Hui's words were wise advice, Li Huai'an found it difficult to let go of his obsession.
The carriage rumbled to the government office. Li Huai'an jumped off the carriage in a daze, and almost twisted his ankle in the process.
"Huai'an, if you truly love Zhi'er, you should think about her." Seeing Li Huai'an's dazed expression, Xu Hui couldn't help but advise him again, "Her status is different now. If you insist on being so persistent, it will only cause her trouble."
Li Huai'an took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down. He knew that Xu Hui's words made sense. He slowly raised his head and looked at Xu Hui with a firm gaze. "My lord, I understand what you mean. However, I need time to adjust my mindset."
Xu Hui smiled slightly and patted Li Huai'an on the shoulder, "Time is the best healer. Huai'an, you are a smart man, I believe you can handle all of this."
Li Huai'an bowed deeply to Xu Hui and said, "Thank you for your guidance today, sir. I am deeply grateful."
Xu Hui waved his hand, indicating that there was no need for formalities, and turned to enter the study.
He sighed inwardly as he walked. Over the past few days, he had come to understand Li Huai'an somewhat. This man was indecisive and lacked resolve, yet deep down he possessed the inexplicable self-confidence of the noble youths of Lingyang City.
"Sir, there is a letter from the capital." Xu Hui had just sat down when the gatekeeper hurriedly handed him a letter sealed with cinnabar.
"Who sent this?" Xu Hui asked as he slowly opened the envelope.
"The man was riding a tall horse, and judging from his attire, he seemed to be from the capital region," the gatekeeper recalled.
"Quickly, invite them in!" Xu Hui was taken aback and stood up abruptly from his armchair.
