Chapter 4 I'm Not Ugly

"You lecherous scoundrel!" Zhao Zhi was both ashamed and angry.

The man in black pulled her up from the ground. He glanced into the distance; the moon had set and the stars were low in the sky; it was already late at night.

"If you don't want to end up dead in the wilderness, hurry up and leave!"

Zhao Zhi had been fleeing for her life and was completely exhausted. Now she was practically being dragged along by the man in black.

The man in black, annoyed that she was walking too slowly, simply picked her up and carried her upright.

Although the posture was unseemly and not very comfortable, Zhao Zhi obediently let him carry her because she didn't have to exert herself walking on either side.

She even took a nap.

As dawn broke, the official road was already visible.

The man in black put Zhao Zhi down by a lake. Seeing that her face was covered in smears like the raccoon dog they kept at home, he picked a lotus leaf, filled it with some lake water, and planned to wash her.

Zhao Zhi seized this moment to launch her attack. She quietly walked behind the man in black, kicked him into the lake, and then ran like a madwoman towards the main road.

When the man in black realized he had been tricked, he saw Zhao Zhi in the distance already boarding a carriage decorated with silk on all four sides.

The carriage rumbled forward and gradually disappeared into the dawn.

The man in black climbed ashore from the lake, watching the departing carriage with great anger.

His secret trip was to follow Yun Chao and his group in search of the pear wood box in Li Yong's possession.

Unexpectedly, he was discovered by the other party near Qinglian Temple and was injured.

But that girl managed to escape unscathed from those Yunchao people; she shouldn't be underestimated. Perhaps the box is on her; after all, she was the last person to come into contact with Li Yong.

"Heh, trying to run? Once you're involved, you'll be powerless to control your own destiny." The man in black sneered, watching the carriage disappear in the direction it had gone. This chase had only just begun...

As Zhao Zhi, curled up like a hedgehog, rushed into the carriage, she bumped right into the man in brocade robes sitting inside.

"Young master—" The coachman, hearing the unusual sound, hurriedly asked with concern.

"It's nothing. Cui Jiu, drive carefully," the man in brocade said, rubbing his sore nose from the collision.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I couldn't stop myself." Zhao Zhi has a good habit of immediately admitting her mistakes.

The man in brocade ignored her, took out a handkerchief, and slowly wiped the soot from his face.

His eyes were downcast, revealing no emotion whatsoever.

"Young master, I was being chased by bad guys, and in my haste I offended you. Please forgive me!" Zhao Zhi was afraid that the other party would kick her off the carriage when he didn't speak.

“I have money! I’ll pay you when we get to Lingyang,” she said, raising her hand in assurance.

"In my life, the one thing I have never lacked is money." Cui Shenghe tossed the used handkerchief onto Zhao Zhi and said softly, "Wipe your face clean. I hate ugly things the most."

"Oh, oh. I'm not ugly." Zhao Zhi hurriedly picked up a handkerchief to wipe her face clean, looked up at the other person and said, "Young Master Cui, look, I'm not ugly, am I?"

“You—” Cui Shenghe seemed to see another version of himself, a female version. He even suspected that the woman in front of him was disguised and deliberately approaching him.

Cui Shenghe said "I'm sorry" while holding Zhao Zhi's head still with one hand and carefully stroking her hairline and the area behind her ears with the other.

Zhao Zhi silently held a silver needle in her hand.

Just as she was about to give Cui Shenghe an injection, he confirmed that she was not disguised and released her.

“The girl looks a lot like one of my relatives,” Cui Shenghe said, stroking his disguised face.

Zhao Zhi was startled by his sudden, alluring gesture, which gave her goosebumps. She muttered, "I've never heard my mother mention any relatives with the surname Cui in our family."

Suddenly, an idea struck her. "Young Master Cui, would you be looking for a girl?"

“I only have an old man who is my housekeeper and Cui Jiu who drives the car, but I lack a girl who can spend money.” Cui Shenghe looked at Zhao Zhi thoughtfully.

"How about I become your sister!"

"Why don't you become my sister!"

The two said in unison.

Zhao Zhi excitedly gave him a high five, "Deal!"

She was secretly delighted. Now she had the fare to go back to Lingyang, the money to buy new clothes, and a rich merchant brother. It was a win-win situation no matter how you looked at it.

When Zhao Zhi rushed into Cui Shenghe's carriage, he actually took a great risk.

Although she guessed from the carriage's decorations that the person inside must be wealthy and noble, she also considered that if the person inside was not a kind-hearted person, she would have to go through the trouble of finding another target. Fortunately, however, Young Master Cui was beautiful and kind-hearted.

Cui Shenghe instructed Cui Jiu, "Stop at the town ahead and give..." He turned to Zhao Zhi, "What is your name, sister?"

“Zhizhi,” Zhao Zhi said with a grin. Afraid the other person wouldn't understand, she added, “Zhi is such a tiny little thing, haha. Isn't it cute?”

Cui Shenghe smiled and nodded, then said to the outside, "Get Zhizhi some new clothes."

The carriage soon arrived in town, and Cui Jiu stopped it in front of a tailor shop.

"Zhizhi, pick whatever you like." Cui Shenghe looked at Zhao Zhi tenderly.

Zhao Zhi excitedly ran into the store, picked out several beautiful clothes, and liked them even more after trying them on.

"Brother, you're so kind!" Zhao Zhi happily hugged Cui Shenghe.

Cui Shenghe was slightly taken aback, his expression became somewhat unnatural, and his body stiffened instantly.

Cui Jiu, who was waiting in his car outside, gasped when he saw this scene. Everyone knew that the wealthy young master Cui had an extremely severe case of mysophobia.

"It's getting late, let's continue on our way," Cui Shenghe changed the subject.
