I should naturally be conscientious in my duties and put the people first. However, recently I have deeply reflected on myself and realized that I have made many oversights in governing the country, resulting in the decline of the court and the suffering of the people. My heart is filled with pain. Therefore, I hereby issue this edict of self-reproach to clarify my mistakes and to pray for the mercy of Heaven and Earth and the forgiveness of the people."
I have previously condoned my concubines' interference in state affairs, their selling of official positions, and their abuse of power for personal gain. This has led to a corrupt and chaotic court, where capable officials are unable to be employed, and treacherous ministers run rampant. Such actions have not only tarnished the reputation of the court but also damaged the foundation of the nation. I feel deeply ashamed of this and extend my deepest apologies to all my subjects.
Furthermore, I have been infatuated with beautiful women and indulged in the pleasures of the harem, neglecting state affairs and turning a blind eye to the suffering of the people. Driven by my own selfish desires, I have persecuted loyal ministers and forcibly taken women from the populace, causing widespread fear and resentment. My actions have been utterly contrary to Heaven and reason, and my crimes are unforgivable. I deeply regret these actions and wish to dedicate the rest of my life to repenting and restoring order to the court.
I hereby issue this edict of self-reproach to express my remorse and to pray for Heaven's mercy, granting me the opportunity to reform. I will learn from this painful experience, take history as a mirror, strictly discipline myself, uphold the duties of a ruler, diligently govern and care for the people, in order to restore the glory of my Yun Dynasty.
I am keenly aware that correcting mistakes is not a task that can be accomplished overnight; it requires perseverance to see results. Therefore, I will widely recruit talented individuals, humbly accept advice, and discuss national affairs and development with all officials. At the same time, I will intensify the punishment of corrupt officials, severely punishing them without exception, as a warning to others. As for the ministers and common people whom I have persecuted, I will do my utmost to make amends and restore their reputation and rights.
I firmly believe that, under the protection of Heaven and Earth and with the support of the people, I will be able to reform myself, revitalize the court, and usher in a new era for my Yun Dynasty. May all my subjects bear witness to my resolve and work together for the prosperity and strength of our nation.
