She turned her face away uneasily.
"If you move again, I can't guarantee what might happen." Shen Hanshan's voice carried a hint of danger.
Zhao Zhi dared not move again. She closed her eyes tightly and cursed herself for being so unlucky.
Upon seeing this, Shen Hanshan's lips curled up slightly.
He gave up on seeing Zhao Zhizhen's face, turned around and walked to the side, where he got a new set of clothes to change into.
Taking the opportunity, Zhao Zhi quickly put on her clothes, grabbed the box, and prepared to leave.
"Wait a minute," Shen Hanshan called out to her.
Zhao Zhi's heart tightened. Could it be that he had his eye on the box in her hand?
"You're just leaving like that?" Shen Hanshan looked at her with a half-smile.
Zhao Zhi bit her lip and said defiantly, "Then what do you want?"
Shen Hanshan walked up to her, looked down at her, and a hint of mockery flashed in his eyes: "You stole my things, and you think you can just walk away like this?"
Zhao Zhi hugged the box tightly, her eyes wide, "I didn't have it! This is mine!"
"Oh?" Shen Hanshan raised an eyebrow and sneered, "What proof do you have that this belongs to your family?"
He pointed outside, "Make sure you understand, this is the Prince Rui's residence."
Zhao Zhi was speechless.
Her hand, hidden in her wide sleeve, twitched. If all else failed, she could give him a shot and then escape from the rooftop.
"Are you planning to give me a shot and then escape from the roof?" Shen Hanshan looked at her leisurely.
Zhao Zhi glared fiercely at Shen Hanshan. This guy was really hard to deal with!
"Do you think those guys who were chasing you earlier might be lying in wait nearby?"
Zhao Zhi bit her lip, her heart pounding. Seeing Shen Hanshan's gaze linger on the box in her hand, she tentatively asked, "You like this box too?"
"I can give it to you, but you have to agree to two conditions."
"Go ahead," Shen Hanshan said, feeling that Zhao Zhi was overconfident. However, he was willing to play along.
"First, take me in for one night and send me away before dawn. Second, you, break off your engagement with Zhao Zhi."
Shen Hanshan could understand the first condition. But he couldn't understand the second condition.
"Do you have a grudge against Miss Zhao?"
“We have a grudge! If you don’t agree, I have a way to destroy this box, and you’ll get nothing. I can shake off those people outside without your help, but I’m lazy and don’t want too much trouble.” Zhao Zhi finished speaking crisply and asked, “So, you agree or not?”
Shen Hanshan looked at her meaningfully for a long time before nodding, "Okay, I agree. But you can't be the only one making conditions. I have conditions too."
"Go ahead," Zhao Zhi said, her expression softening.
"After I go to court tomorrow morning, I will first annul the engagement. You and Hezi will stay here for now. After court tomorrow, once the annulment is finalized, Hezi will be mine, and then you can leave."
"You don't believe me?" Zhao Zhi asked back.
“You don’t believe me either,” Shen Hanshan replied crisply.
"You can sleep in this room. There are guards outside, so don't even think about escaping."
“Alright.” Zhao Zhi took off her boots, rolled to the side of the bed, and stretched out one leg to hook down the blue gauze curtain.
"Don't forget to fix the house," she said.
Shen Hanshan lowered his foot, turned around, parted the gauze curtain, and leaned halfway inside to ask, "Are you this casual in every man's house?"
With her back to him, Zhao Zhi retorted, "In my eyes, you're not a man."
"Your words are somewhat insulting." Shen Hanshan turned and left the house, asking Su Mu to bring a ladder so he could go up to the roof to repair the house.
Su Mu and Du Heng looked at each other and glanced into the house at the same time.
He wondered, who exactly is this person in the room, that he can command his prince?
Shen Hanshan repaired the house and instructed Su Mu to guard it, forbidding anyone inside from leaving and anyone outside from entering. Food could be left at the door.
Su Mu wanted to ask what would happen if the person inside needed to use the restroom. Judging from the sound just now, it should be a woman inside.
Shen Hanshan strode into the study.
The following day, due to political differences, Shen Hanshan and Zhao Shouzhen argued again in front of the Golden Palace.
In a fit of rage, he blurted out, "I want to annul the engagement! With a stubborn father-in-law like you, I'll die young!"
"Fine, I'll back down!" Zhao Shouzhen retorted defiantly. "Having a son-in-law like you would probably shorten my lifespan by decades!"
The civil and military officials all thought the two were just joking. Unexpectedly, as soon as the court session ended, Shen Hanshan personally went to the Zhao residence to annul the engagement.
"Shen Hanshan, you've gone too far!" Zhao Shouzhen was so angry that he disregarded all etiquette and addressed Prince Rui by his name.
"I don't need the betrothal gifts; consider it an apology to the second young lady. But where is she? I've spent so much money, and I can't even marry her. Shouldn't I at least see her? Where is she? Why isn't she coming out yet!"
Shen Hanshan, with his legs crossed, spoke with obvious impatience, "Zhao Shouzhen, go and call your daughter out to meet me! I've spent so much money on her, I should at least see what she looks like!"
Zhang Wan got up early in the morning and heard Zhao Zhi's maid, Chao Yan, rushing in to report that the second young lady was missing.
Just as she was about to say that Zhao Zhi was ill and should not see anyone, Zhao Yun suddenly stood up and said tremblingly that her younger sister had run away to play yesterday and had not returned home yet.
Shen Hanshan snorted coldly and said, "Lord Zhao, before you start cursing me, you should take care of your own daughter first!"
He turned and left.
A moment later, a servant's anxious voice came from behind, "Master has fainted!"
Shen Hanshan shook his head. "Sigh, old people really can't take a good breath."
