"The Dali Temple is handling a case. All bystanders, please make way immediately!" Several officers and soldiers stood solemnly on both sides with their weapons.
The rest of the people quickly entered the Hidden Spring Pavilion.
A sense of foreboding suddenly welled up in Li Huai'an's heart. He stood at a distance, his eyes fixed on the soldiers coming and going, his heart filled with mixed feelings.
He recalled his mother's mysterious and urgent instructions last night, and her sudden surge of emotion, as if all of this was inextricably linked to the scene before him.
Before long, a middle-aged man in official robes with a stern expression walked out of Cangchun Tower. This man was none other than Zhao Yuan, the Minister of the Court of Judicial Review.
He looked around, his gaze lingering briefly on Li Huai'an, as if he had noticed something, but he didn't say anything, and just continued to direct the cleanup work at the scene.
"Lord Zhao, what exactly happened to the Hidden Spring Pavilion? Why was it suddenly shut down?" someone in the crowd asked boldly.
Zhao Yuan pondered for a moment before slowly speaking: "I have received a secret report that there are illegal items in the Cangchun Pavilion, which are related to an important case. Although no direct evidence was found during the search, these paintings may contain coded messages, which need to be carefully examined. As for the specific details of the case, I will make them public after I have investigated the truth."
Upon hearing this, Li Huai'an was filled with even more doubts.
Just as he was lost in thought, a minor official rushed over and whispered a few words in Zhao Yuan's ear.
Upon hearing this, Zhao Yuan's expression changed slightly. He then looked in Li Huai'an's direction and beckoned him over.
"Who are you? Why are you lingering here?" Zhao Yuan's voice was authoritative without being angry.
Li Huai'an took a deep breath, stepped forward and bowed, saying, "Your Excellency, I am Li Huai'an, the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Justice. I happened to pass by the Cangchun Tower and, out of curiosity, stopped to watch the excitement."
"Why is the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Justice not on official business, but instead staying here in idleness?" Zhao Yuan frowned slightly.
Li Huai'an replied, "My mother is ill, and I have already asked my superiors for leave."
Upon hearing this, Zhao Yuan nodded, signaling him to leave.
"If that's the case, then leave quickly!"
Li Huai'an nodded and turned to walk towards home.
Back home, Li Huai'an went straight to Bai Wei's room and told her everything he had seen at Cangchun Tower.
Bai Wei turned pale upon hearing this.
She gripped the quilt tightly with both hands, and in a flash, a possibility came to mind.
Zhao Shouzhen and his wife may have been taken to Yunchao.
“Your mother-in-law, Zhang Wan, has some past relationship with the mother of the new emperor of Yunchao. If he invited the two elders to Yunchao as guests, it would be perfectly reasonable,” Bai Wei analyzed as she thought.
Li Huai'an also felt that his mother's words made sense.
"Mother, could it be that the Hidden Spring Pavilion is connected to the people of the Yun Dynasty?" Although he had never set foot in the Hidden Spring Pavilion, he knew that it held many secrets. The identity tokens inside were worth a fortune.
Even if it's worth a fortune, you might not be able to buy it just because you want to.
He never had the chance to go inside.
Bai Wei yawned, signaling Li Huai'an not to mention anything related to Cangchunlou again.
Before Li Huai'an left, Bai Wei told him not to tell Zhao Yun about their conversation.
"An'er, you and Yun'er haven't consummated your marriage yet, have you?"
Li Huai'an hesitated for a moment, then finally just sighed.
"Consider it a favor from your mother. No matter how many women you have or how many concubines you want to take, the eldest grandson of our Duke's mansion must be Zhao Yunsheng. This will give your father-in-law and mother-in-law an explanation."
Li Huai'an whispered, "Mother, I really don't want to..."
"An'er!" Bai Wei's tone was somewhat urgent, "Once the lamp is blown out, it doesn't matter which woman you sleep with. After the eldest grandson is born, your mother will take care of him. You can rest assured."
