Chapter 53 Keep a Low Profile

Qi Yu's victory completely reversed her previous reputation in the Spirit Academy.

Once despised by all disciples for his lack of spiritual roots, he was labeled a "five-spiritual-root waste," but he transformed into a brilliant talent in both swordsmanship and alchemy.

Those who hadn't spoken ill of her before boasted that they had a discerning eye and had long since discovered that Qi Yu was no ordinary person.

Those who were the most aggressive before have started to keep a low profile, afraid that Qi Yu might remember that she had insulted her and use her "shattering jade and throwing pearls" technique to turn them into sieves.

However, Qi Yu, the person involved, didn't have the time to cause them any trouble.

After the sword competition ended, Qi Yu immediately went back to her room and slept soundly, finally able to relax for a moment after a month of tension.

I was woken up by the system's voice, which sounded like it was calling my soul, just before midnight.

[Friendly reminder: It's almost midnight, and you haven't completed your daily good deed task yet. Please finish it as soon as possible.]

Qi Yu jumped out of bed and energetically tied her hair up.

Little Black sat up sleepily, still half-asleep.

Qi Yu changed into a black outfit, tucked the little white bird into her bosom, rubbed the little black dog's head a few times, blew out the candles, and left.

She walked briskly to a dilapidated temple in Wucheng.

Several beggars originally lived here. Although they had been given silver several times before, they had never moved. Qi Yu planned to give them more silver this time so that they could find a better place to live.

She quietly approached the dilapidated temple and peered inside.

"Nobody here?"

The dilapidated temple was empty, with only an unnamed, broken statue solemnly gazing at Qi Yu.

Qi Yu entered the dilapidated temple, where several broken bowls he had seen a few days earlier were still inside.

There were still traces of a fire on the ground, indicating that it must have been here not long ago.

Have they already left and gone to live somewhere else?

Or perhaps...

Qi Yu's expression tightened for a moment, then he tossed a few pieces of silver into the corner and hurried to the next location.

Fortunately, there were still people in the places they went to next, and Qi Yu tossed the silver to their side without disturbing them.

Some of the men were not sound sleepers. The slight rolling sound of the silver coins startled them awake. They found several more pieces of silver beside them and excitedly ran out.

"The fairy has come again."

"Why did they give so much again this time?"

"I really don't know how to thank her."

Because Qi Yu doesn't give money to able-bodied beggars, most of whom have some degree of physical disability.

Qi Yu hid in their blind spot, watching them drag their mutilated bodies and kowtow to the air, her eyes lowered and her brows furrowed.

A clear voice rang out:

"Once we've taken the money, let's find a nice place to live together."

"It's not safe lately."

Upon hearing this, the group turned to the source of the voice and bowed in gratitude, saying, "Thank you, fairy!"

"We will!"

Qi Yu glanced at them again, then turned and left.

That amount of silver was enough for them to rent a place to live in Wucheng, where they could shelter from the wind and rain.

As the night passed, Qi Yu accumulated another hundred points, which made up for the hundred points she had wasted during the day on buying the Three Pure Ones Detoxification Pill.

She shuffled towards the spirit house.

The bright moon hung high in the sky, and a dark figure stood in front of the Lingyuan Temple.

The man's hair was messy, and his clothes were haphazardly dressed; he looked even more like a beggar than the one Qi Yu had just seen.

His body was trembling abnormally, as if he were suffering from some extreme pain.

"Lai Pi?" Qi Yu recognized Lai Pi when she reached the gate of the Spirit Academy. She raised an eyebrow and said, "In the middle of the night, instead of resting in bed to recover from your injuries, you have the mind to wander around?"

"Could it be that you were defeated by someone with only five spiritual roots like me, and that's why you're feeling so frustrated?"

Lai Pi turned around stiffly and gave her a long, brooding look.

Whether it was due to the moonlight or some other reason, Lai Pi's eyes shone with a faint, strange purple hue.

Qi Yu blinked, then looked again, and the purple color had disappeared.

It's probably just my imagination.

Lai Pi stood there without saying a word, and Qi Yu, too lazy to waste any more time with him, took out his jade pendant.

The moment she stepped into the gates of the Spirit Temple, Lai Pi suddenly followed her in with lightning speed.

A strange, foul odor then wafted into Qi Yu's nostrils.

Qi Yu covered her nose and stopped walking.

Lai Pi did indeed have a foul odor before, but that was probably from not bathing or changing clothes for too long. However, tonight the smell seemed to have changed slightly.

Could it be because I had a bloody hole punched in my chest today, and the stench on my body mixed with the smell of blood to create this strange odor?

She wrinkled her nose as she watched Lai Pi's steps become somewhat stiff, seemingly due to his injury.

They really don't care about cleanliness.

She turned around, leaving the unhygienic Lai Pi behind, and headed back to her room.

“Qi…Qi…”

A hoarse, mocking sound suddenly rang out, and Qi Yu turned around in confusion.

"You called me?"

Lai Pi did not answer, and continued to walk slowly in another direction on his own.

What is this...?

Qi Yu pursed her lips and walked away without looking back.

A gust of wind carrying a fishy stench blew by, swirling up a few fallen leaves from the ground.

As Lai Pi walked into the shadows, the corners of his mouth were still trying to open and close, and one could vaguely make out the shape of the character "齐" (qi).

But no matter how hard he tried, he still couldn't make a sound.

As he heard Qi Yu's footsteps fading into the distance, his eyes slowly filled with a dark purple light.

As darkness gradually engulfed the youth, he closed his eyes, his limbs flailing uncontrollably, and tears silently streamed down his face.

Night falls and silence descends.

...

Qi Yu walked into the courtyard and found Wu Qianqian, Gou Dan, and Zhu Yu standing in front of her door, chatting.

She walked over and asked, puzzled, "What's wrong?"

"Sister, you went to sleep as soon as you got back. You must be hungry." Gou Dan was carrying a tray, and Qi Yu could tell at a glance that it was food from Dingxianglou. She couldn't help but smile.

The food was still steaming, kept warm by Gou Dan using his fire elemental power.

Qi Yu had been taking fasting pills for the past month, and when she saw the delicious-looking dishes, she was actually a little hungry. She pinched Gou Dan's cheek and said, "So thoughtful."

Upon seeing this, Zhu Yu quickly said, "Sister Qi Yu, I know you like the food at Dingxianglou. This is what your royal uncle ordered for you."

"Wow." Qi Yu took the tray and said, "Please thank your royal uncle for me."

Zhu Yu said, "By the way, my royal uncle asked me to tell you that he has some things to attend to during this period and probably won't be staying at the Spirit Academy."

"Oh." Qi Yu didn't seem to care much about Zhu Que's whereabouts and nodded indifferently.

She opened the door and let everyone in, then laid out the food and began to eat.

Qi Yu ate with complete absorption, while the others remained silent and watched quietly.

Xiao Hei, who was dozing off, was scooped up and held in Zhu Yu's arms, so he had to pretend that he was an ordinary dog.

After Qi Yu finished eating, Wu Qianqian took out a small ring and said:

“I won the bet and went to get the spirit stones back. Based on the ratio of one to one hundred, you should have received 500,000 low-grade spirit stones, but I exchanged them for 5,000 mid-grade spirit stones.”
