Chapter 8 Trust Between People

Qi Yu stood at the crossroads, looking left and right, and meticulously checked the area, finally spotting the dirty figure in a small corner.

"I wonder how much this jade pendant is worth," the little beggar muttered softly.

Qi Yu stood behind him and said quietly, "I don't know how much money it can be exchanged for, I only know that you're unlucky to have run into me."

The little beggar was startled, put his hands behind his back, and said in a conciliatory tone, "Sorry, pretty sister, I didn't mean to bump into you."

"Don't give me that." Qi Yu was too lazy to argue with him and stretched out her hand. "Give me back the jade pendant."

The little beggar blinked and said innocently, "Where did this jade pendant come from? Oh, this one, I found it. Oh, it's yours, pretty sister. Here you go!"

He threw the brocade pouch and jade pendant into Qi Yu's arms, trying to slip away using the same trick as before.

Qi Yu sneered and grabbed his thin shoulders: "Trying to run? No way!"

Seeing that Qi Yu was not easily fooled, the little beggar put on a mournful face and said, "I'm sorry, I know I was wrong. I'm just too hungry, sister. I haven't eaten for three days and I'm about to starve to death."

"If you have hands and feet, why don't you go find work? Don't make excuses." Qi Yucai didn't believe his nonsense.

The little beggar lowered his head, looking very aggrieved: "I want to too, but they all think I'm dirty and don't want me."

Qi Yu glanced at him; his clothes were tattered, as if they hadn't been washed for days, and his trousers were too short, revealing calves that were as thin as dry firewood.

"Fine, I'll just consider this a good deed for the day and a task to complete." Qi Yu took out a piece of pastry from her pocket, stuffed it into the little beggar's hand, and patted his messy hair: "Alright, I'm just a penniless wretch, you've got the wrong idea. Here, have this pastry, but don't steal from people anymore, or you'll get beaten to death."

The little beggar took the pastry, whispered a thank you, and walked out of the alley with his head down. Suddenly, he turned back and made a face at her: "You poor thing! You only gave me a pastry to appease a beggar!"

After saying that, he disappeared in a flash.

Qi Yu opened her mouth, speechless and choked with emotion, feeling that trust between people was too fragile and that she would never love again.

Congratulations on successfully completing the "Do a Good Deed Every Day" task! Your actions saved a child suffering from hunger. You are awarded 50 points as a token of your appreciation!

Alright, at least there's a system reward, even if it's only fifty points. What a stingy system.
