Having completed her mission, Qi Yu strolled around for a while before heading back to the Spirit Academy to rest. Out of the corner of her eye, she seemed to sense an unusual ripple in the air.
She stopped and looked in that direction with a puzzled expression.
In a dark corner where the light was dim, a burly man was choking the little beggar.
Qi Yu quietly approached the onlookers, thinking that karma was truly inescapable and that the little beggar had met his match. Just as he was about to gloat, the man's head slowly peeled away a layer of human skin, revealing a hideous and terrifying monster face.
It's a monster!
The little beggar, whose neck was being choked, turned blue and purplish-blue, groaning in pain as tears streamed down his face.
The monster's mouth grew to an unbelievable size, drool dripping from the corners of its lips, and it looked as if it was about to swallow the beggar's head whole.
Qi Yu was so shocked that his heart trembled. Without thinking, he summoned the Sword of Compassion and threw it at the demon.
The sword of compassion, following her will, pierced the monster's back. The monster paused for a moment, then turned into a wisp of black smoke and disappeared.
The sword fell to the ground with a "thud," without a trace of blood on it.
Qi Yu walked over and picked up the sword, then belatedly realized the danger. She was just a mortal now, without any magic, and it was obvious that she couldn't defeat that monster. She had acted too impulsively.
Fortunately, the monster seemed to have some reservations and didn't engage her, instead fleeing directly.
The little beggar who escaped from the tiger's mouth was so frightened that he ran over and clung to her, crying and howling.
Qi Yu gasped as her injured lower back was aggravated again. She almost lost control and kicked the little beggar away. Looking at the marks on his neck and the snot and tears on her clothes, she covered her forehead in pain.
"Alright, alright, stop howling. Let go of my hand, you're touching my wound."
The little beggar helplessly let go, still sobbing uncontrollably.
She had done two good deeds that day, even though the unscrupulous system didn't give her any points as a reward. Qi Yu put the Compassionate Sword back into her system inventory, ignoring the still-crying little beggar, and prepared to return to the Spirit Academy.
After taking a few steps, she heard faint, intermittent sobs behind her, which annoyed Qi Yu so much that her head ached. She turned around, pointed her index finger at the little beggar following her, and said irritably, "Don't follow me!"
The little beggar stood motionless, his eyes blurry with tears.
Qi Yu continued walking, and after a while, the voice began to attack her ears again like a vengeful ghost, and passersby started pointing and whispering about her.
This scene is exactly the same as when Xu Shen Shen staged an accident for me just now.
Enough is enough. Qi Yu frowned deeply, turned to the little beggar impatiently, and said, "Get lost!"
The little beggar's puppy eyes were red from crying. He said pitifully, "Sister, I'm afraid I'll be eaten. Please save me. Please don't abandon me. I'll do anything for you from now on."
Qi Yu: "..."
This is the last time. Things shouldn't happen more than three times.
Forced to perform three good deeds a day, Qi Yu had no choice but to let the little beggar follow him around like a shadow.
When they arrived at the morning admission registration area, Mu Luo was still sitting there lazily, directing people to have their spiritual roots tested. She only sat up straight when she saw Qi Yu coming over.
Coincidentally, I ran into that spoiled Miss An again. She was placing her hand on the spirit-testing stone, which showed a faint blue and brown hue and glowed softly.
Mu Luo glanced at it, took out a jade pendant similar to Qi Yu's, and handed it to Miss An, saying, "Water and Earth dual spiritual roots, excellent quality. Report to the Spirit Academy in three days."
Besides single and multiple spiritual roots, spiritual roots are also classified into mortal, superior, holy, immortal, and divine grades based on their aptitude.
Nowadays, spiritual energy is scarce in the cultivation world, and geniuses are rare. Those with excellent aptitude are already in high demand. After graduating from the Spiritual Academy, if one does not want to stay in the Spiritual Academy, they are very welcome to go to other sects.
Divine works like Qi Yu's are extremely rare.
Miss An's servants flattered her, saying, "Miss is indeed a genius, with dual spiritual roots!"
"Even with superior quality, Master is only of ordinary quality. It seems that Master was right to send Miss here!"
"Miss will surely become a pillar of the cultivation world in the future!"
Miss An was forced by her father to come and have her spiritual roots tested. She wasn't really interested in seeking immortality, but knowing that she had excellent aptitude, she couldn't help but feel a little smug. She glanced at Qi Yu and said sarcastically, "Oh dear, it's a pity that I, who don't want to cultivate immortality, have such aptitude, while those who do want to cultivate immortality are just a useless person with five spiritual roots."
"Hahaha, how could a piece of trash like you compare to Miss!"
Qi Yu and Mu Luo exchanged a glance, both seeing a similar sense of speechlessness in each other's eyes.
Forget it, I won't bother arguing with someone so ignorant. Miss An doesn't know about her Chaotic Spiritual Root, which is good for protecting this secret from others.
Mu Luo pointed with some confusion at the little beggar who was crying miserably, "What's going on?"
Qi Yu briefly described her encounter with the monster, omitting the details of being tricked by the little beggar.
"It's probably that monster that escaped from Qiankun Fortress. They were bored and wanted to capture monsters for research. Now look what's happened, the monster has escaped and caused who knows how much trouble it's caused." Mu Luo frowned deeply, pressed her temples in annoyance, took out her communication jade to send a message, and added, "Thank goodness you're alright."
Looking back, Qi Yu was indeed terrified. In her moment of impulsiveness, she hadn't paid attention to the difference in strength between herself and the demon. Fortunately, she had the Compassionate Sword given to her by the system, and the demon didn't bother her and ran away.
She pulled the little beggar out from behind her and said, "He was almost eaten by a monster, and he's terrified now. He insists on following me."
Mu Luo looked at the little beggar who was crying like a little kitten, smiled and pointed to the newly brought spirit-testing stone on the table, saying, "Then let's test our spiritual roots. As long as we don't have the five spiritual roots that are incapable of cultivation, we can enter the Spirit Academy to learn cultivation techniques."
