Chapter 183 Unmasking

The man took a deep breath, but looking at the woman in front of him, he closed his eyes briefly, and then suddenly released the large hand around his waist.

"No, you can't."

Away from the scorching heat source, Song Xi was stunned, then collapsed back onto the soft couch, her hair disheveled.

The man was startled when he saw her suddenly fall, and quickly took a step forward after her.

When he saw Song Xizhi fall onto the soft couch, her face full of confusion and doubt, he simply leaned down slightly, tucked the stray hairs from the woman's temples behind her ears, and almost coaxed her, "There's water outside, let me wipe your face for you, okay?"

The woman's consciousness seemed to be getting more and more blurred. She shook her head in utter confusion and clung tightly to the man's body.

The woman was still struggling beneath him, but the man's eyes grew increasingly cold.

He restrained the woman's wriggling wrists, pinning them above her head, while his other hand pulled her clothes over her head to cover her: "Song Xizhi!"

"Wake up and look at me. Do you know who I am? Do you think just any man can do this?"

His cold voice startled Song Xizhi. Song Xizhi squinted and stood there, stunned, as if struggling to process the meaning behind his words.

Then she tilted her head slightly and unconsciously said, "Why not? You are my husband."

The man tilted his head back and took a deep breath, his Adam's apple bobbing up and down.

But that won't work.

Since receiving that letter from the frontier and learning about their friendship, it meant he could no longer take that next step.

The man grasped her wrists with both hands, and while she was unconscious, he spoke earnestly, word by word: "I am not your husband."

The woman ignored him, only gently kissing his cold mask with her burning red lips: "I love you."

The man's voice was hoarse as his fingertips pinched her delicate chin: "You love me?"

The woman's voice was soft: "Jingyan, Ayan."

The man's movements stiffened slightly, then he uncontrollably kissed the corner of her lips lightly: "Don't call me by my name, call me husband."

"My husband."

Song Xizhi hugged him tightly, and where he couldn't see, his originally bewildered eyes gradually cleared up.

As she watched the man gradually succumb, her hand slowly moved up to his back, and with a deft flick of her fingers, she removed his mask in an instant.

A crisp thud.

It's the sound of metal falling and hitting the ground.

Song Xizhi placed her hands against the man's chest and gently pushed his body away again.

"My husband."

The burning body cooled down instantly, and under the cool moonlight outside the window, a pair of affectionate eyes came into view.

An unfamiliar face.

His appearance was simply too outstanding; he had a high nose bridge, naturally deep-set eyes, a restrained radiance, and an extraordinary temperament, yet the corners of his eyes and brows still held a lingering passion.

Now, the man finally realized what had happened. He raised his head and stared at Song Xizhi's delicate face with an unusually cold gaze, as if chilling to the bone.

"Song Xizhi, are you faking it?"

His voice suddenly turned cold.

Song Xizhi suddenly came to his senses, his pupils contracted, and he pushed the man on top of him away forcefully.

Her eyes were filled with fear and shock, and she almost cried out, "You're not my husband?"

The man sneered, his strong body remaining unmoved no matter how much she pushed him: "I've said it before, I'm not your husband."

Song Xizhi gritted his teeth and carefully examined his face, feeling as if his mind was completely blank: "Who exactly are you?"

She trusted her instincts, and she believed her instincts were never wrong.

No man in the world could make her so familiar with him.

The man not only did not get up, but instead leaned down on her, his eyes filled with anger.

"You set up this scheme to test whether I am your husband?"

Song Xizhi just stared at him silently. She pushed him hard, but the man didn't budge.

He laughed in exasperation, his question almost aggressive: "A lone man and woman, you were all alluring to a man, and now you want to run away?"

Do you think all men in the world are pure, upright, and utterly virtuous? Can you be a paragon of virtue like Liu Xiahui in front of them?

"Song Xizhi, look at me. Is your husband really worth this kind of risk?"

Seeing that she couldn't push him away, Song Xizhi stopped and stared directly at the man's face.

Even when he's angry, he's breathtakingly beautiful.

But he was not He Jingyan at all. No matter how carefully Song Xizhi searched, he could not find any similarity between the two faces.

Seeing that Song Xizhi remained silent, the man pinched her chin: "Answer me."

Feeling a slight pain in her chin, Song Xizhi nodded: "Yes, I like him, and he's worth the risk. And I can't stand being kept in the dark by anyone."

The man laughed again, but this time there was a hint of helplessness in his smile.

He stared intently at Song Xizhi's crimson lips, a bittersweet feeling welling up inside him.

"Taking risks comes at a price. I'm telling you not to trust men too easily."

After saying this, the man increased the pressure in his hand and pressed her slender wrist heavily onto the soft couch.

Song Xizhi gritted her teeth and looked at him, feeling him lean in again and press down on her.

She suddenly raised her knee and, without hesitation, thrust it into the man's most vulnerable spot.

But she was no match for the man; his strength was simply immense.

The man placed his long leg across her flailing calves, sensing her previous intentions, and sneered again: "Now you know fear?"

He stared at her intently, his body still flushed from the effects of the medicine, but his eyes held only indifference and coldness.

She struggled to pull her hand away, but did not resist or push him. She simply tried to reach for the man's slightly disheveled clothes, and then pulled him sharply in her direction.

Caught off guard by her sudden closeness, the man leaned forward uncontrollably.

Song Xizhi raised his head and slapped him across the face cleanly and decisively.

A crisp slap echoed in the quiet bedroom.

His body went limp in an instant, and he froze on the spot. A clear handprint quickly appeared on his jade-like face.

Song Xizhi chuckled, raised her hand and pulled out the jade hairpin that was diagonally inserted into her temple, then pressed it against the man's neck where the veins were bulging.

The jade hairpin brushed against her skin, sending a cool sensation through it, and Song Xizhi's clear voice rang out in the dimly lit bedroom:

"I brought this medicine. If you don't take the antidote first, you will end up like this. In a moment, you will be completely weak and unable to control your limbs."

"Even a 500-pound pig can't resist the effects of the medicine, let alone a human."
