Chapter 15: A young couple enjoying candied hawthorns together.
Long, slender, fair fingers rested on the blade as thin as a cicada's wing. The cold light of the dagger shimmered with the movement of her wrist, like a cold and agile silver butterfly fluttering and dancing on Fu Yunshu's fingertips.
Yin Lisheng's gaze followed the "silver butterfly" intently, lost in thought.
Fu Yunshu glanced at him and said coolly, "In the middle of the night, why aren't you resting? What are you doing hiding behind the door, brandishing a dagger around? Aren't you afraid of hurting yourself?"
Yin Lisheng touched his nose, feeling guilty, and said, "I don't even know where this is. I'm unfamiliar with this place, and you're not here either. There were some strange phenomena in the sky just now, and I had to be on guard after hearing the noise outside."
He looked at Fu Yunshu cautiously: "I didn't mean to hurt you."
Fu Yunshu sighed, put the dagger back into its sheath, and solemnly placed it in Yin Lisheng's hand.
"It's good to be cautious, but you're still too young. You could easily hurt yourself with a dagger."
In that situation, if Yin Lisheng was lucky, he might have only fallen and bumped a few times; if he was unlucky, he might have lost his grip on the dagger and injured himself when he fell, which would be no laughing matter.
Yin Lisheng stood there awkwardly, holding the dagger: "I'm sorry, I won't do anything reckless next time."
Fu Yunshu squatted down and patted his head: "It's not your fault. It's right to always be vigilant when you come to an unfamiliar place."
"It's my fault. I didn't make you trust me enough."
“Yin Lisheng, I dare to leave you here alone because I have made thorough preparations to ensure you are not harmed in the slightest.”
"I hope that one day I can make you realize that the person standing in front of you is someone you can trust with your whole heart."
Yin Lisheng stared blankly at the person in front of him. His face was as handsome as jade, with clean and perfect features. His nose was high and straight, and his perfectly shaped thin lips were slightly pursed. The most captivating thing was his eyes. His delicate and beautiful peach blossom eyes were full of sincerity, and there was a captivating beauty mark under the slightly upturned corner of his eyes.
In his dream, Yin Lisheng was so captivated by Su Yun's real appearance that he lost his bearings, which embarrassed and angered him. So, after waking up, he subconsciously ignored Su Yun's face. But now, facing that stunningly beautiful face and those unblinking eyes staring at him, Yin Lisheng hurriedly turned his head away.
--evildoer.
So this person's true identity must be some powerful demon, since they're so good at bewitching people!
"Hmm," Yin Li responded in a muffled voice.
Fu Yunshu glanced at his bright red ear tips and chuckled softly.
He's still a child; we can't push him too hard.
"Time to sleep."
Fu Yunshu stretched out his long arm, passed his palms under Yin Lisheng's armpits, and lifted him up.
"Hmm!"
The sudden feeling of being lifted into the air startled Yin Lisheng. He gripped Fu Yunshu's sleeve tightly, his eyes wide with surprise.
“Isn’t that right?” Fu Yunshu put the person down. “That’s how my senior brother raised children back then. I remember the child was laughing so happily.”
Yin Lisheng: "..."
Yin Lisheng took a deep breath, silently repeating to himself that he should trust this person, he should trust this person...
After calming down, Yin Lisheng's expression returned to normal, and he asked, "Where am I sleeping tonight?"
“You’ll still sleep with me,” Fu Yunshu said matter-of-factly.
"Why?" Yin Lisheng's expression was somewhat unnatural.
"Because there is only one room here."
"……All right."
Five days later.
Yin Lisheng woke up from his sleep, and when he turned his head, Su Yun's unremarkable face appeared in front of him.
"Good morning."
Yin Lisheng silently shrank back under the covers, but was quickly pulled out by Fu Yunshu.
"What are you doing? You look down on ordinary people?" Fu Yunshu cupped Yin Lisheng's face, making him look directly at her.
“No,” Yin Lisheng shook his head, “I just feel that only your original face is worthy of these eyes.”
Fu Yunshu was surprised by his answer and teased, "I knew you'd be good at making girls happy when you grow up."
Yin Lisheng was too lazy to argue with him. She broke free from Fu Yunshu's grasp and obediently got dressed and washed up.
After he finished, Fu Yunshu immediately brought out a bowl of medicine. The light in Yin Lisheng's eyes immediately went out.
"Want more?"
Looking at his bitter and resentful expression, Fu Yunshu comforted him, "Today is the last time. Your body is too depleted, and you haven't learned how to guide qi into the body. I didn't dare let you take pills containing spiritual power, so I learned to brew medicine like ordinary people. Although it's a bit bitter, it's very beneficial to your body."
Yin Lisheng took the bowl of medicine, frowned, and gulped it down. He sighed inwardly; this medicine was indeed far too bitter.
“Here,” Fu Yunshu handed over a string of candied hawthorns. The bright red hawthorns were coated with a layer of crystal-clear sugar, radiating an enticing luster.
"This is the last day. Consider this a reward for taking your medicine properly these past few days."
Yin Lisheng took the candied hawthorn from Fu Yunshu's hand. He didn't eat it immediately, but held it in his hand, staring at the candied hawthorn in a daze.
When he was five years old, Yin Lisheng tried to escape from the Yin family. The small courtyard where he and Yin Tangyue lived was the most remote place in the Yin family, with only an alley outside.
Yin Lisheng climbed up a tree near the wall. The tree wasn't particularly tall or thick, and Yin Lisheng fell down several times along the way, but he gritted his teeth and persevered.
He finally climbed to the top of the wall, and that was the first time Yin Lisheng saw the outside world. Sitting on the wall, he couldn't see much; below was a narrow, damp path with uneven stone slabs and moss covering the cracks in the bricks. But Yin Lisheng was very happy. Even the insects that occasionally crawled past below filled him with longing.
Yin Lisheng sat up there for a long time, but when he was about to go down, he found that he couldn't get down at all. The wall was too high, and there was nothing outside to step on. If he jumped down, he would either die or be seriously injured.
He was about to sit for a while and then go back when an old man and a child walked towards the alley entrance.
The grandfather and grandson were both dressed in simple, slightly worn coarse cloth clothes. Although the workmanship was rough and simple, it gave people a warm feeling. The grandfather had dozens of candied hawthorns stuck on a fork in his hand, and the child was happily eating a candied hawthorn in his hand, occasionally giving a bite to the grandfather next to him.
Yin Lisheng watched them leave and sat there for the entire afternoon.
The next day, Yin Lisheng took his few remaining silver ingots, hoping to run into the grandfather and grandson again. He wanted to buy a string of candied hawthorns to try.
These few ingots of silver were given to him by the Yin family's children one day when they had nothing else to throw at. Yin Lisheng felt that if the candied hawthorn was really as delicious as he imagined, he would gladly endure being beaten a few more times.
But when Yin Lisheng arrived at the tree full of anticipation, all he saw was a bare tree stump.
A shadow fell over him; it was the second time Yin Lisheng had seen Yin Tianhe. The first time was when he was bullied by the Yin family children for the first time.
"Don't try to do things you shouldn't do."
A delicate sweetness filled his mouth, and Yin Lisheng focused his attention on the candied hawthorn skewer at his lips.
"What are you thinking about? You're so lost in thought. If you don't eat this candied hawthorn soon, the sugar coating will melt."
It turned out that Fu Yunshu saw that Yin Lisheng hadn't made a move while holding the candied hawthorn for a long time, so she fed it directly to him.
Following Fu Yunshu's action, Yin Lisheng took a bite of a candied hawthorn. The sugar coating quickly melted in her mouth. Immediately afterwards, the sour taste of the hawthorn burst forth, a sweet and sour flavor that lingered endlessly.
Actually... it wasn't as delicious as he imagined.
"Here, have one." Yin Lisheng handed the candied hawthorn to Fu Yunshu.
Fu Yunshu politely ate one, chewing it for a long time before saying, "Not bad."
He rarely eats these snacks and isn't very interested in candied hawthorns.
Yin Lisheng's eyes curved slightly, a faint smile appearing in them.
But it seems... not bad either.
Once everything was settled, the two prepared to head to the main peak to participate in the final round of the entrance examination—the Secret Realm Trial.
Fu Yunshu summoned Hanqi and leaped onto it. Yin Lisheng remained standing there, bewildered and at a loss.
“Come on up,” Fu Yunshu said, extending his hand to him, “I’ll show you how to fly on a sword.”
Yin Lisheng grasped his hand and used it to climb onto the Cold Cry Sword. Flying on a sword was something Yin Lisheng had never experienced before, and he was clearly nervous. He gripped Fu Yunshu's clothes tightly with both hands, wrinkling them.
Fu Yunshu shook her head helplessly and placed both of his hands on her waist.
"If you're scared, just hold me tight."
Yin Lisheng's face suddenly pressed against Fu Yunshu's back, and a faint fragrance wafted into his nose, leaving him somewhat stunned.
The next moment, the intense feeling of being suspended in mid-air brought him back to his senses, and he involuntarily hugged Fu Yunshu's waist tightly.
The feeling of flying on a sword was completely different from the feeling of riding the spirit boat the previous two days. The mountain wind whistled in my ears, and the clouds that were once out of reach were now within reach.
There was only a small sword underfoot, and no real sense of ground beneath. All he could do was trust the person in front of him.
Yin Lisheng's heart pounded; he seemed to understand something.
Because of Yin Lisheng's concern, Fu Yunshu did not travel very fast on his sword. The two found a secluded spot near the meeting point and stopped, then slowly walked over.
There weren't many people at the moment, and Fu Yunshu spotted Qiu Nan and Yan Shuangwan on the outside of the crowd at a glance.
The two of them happened to be looking in this direction. Their eyes met, and Qiu Nan's eyes suddenly lit up. He pulled Yan Shuangwan along and walked over quickly.
"Brother Su, Li Sheng, are you alright?"
Qiu Nan looked Yin Lisheng up and down and saw that he was not only uninjured, but his complexion was also much better than it had been two days ago, which put him at ease.
“It’s alright,” Fu Yunshu replied.
"That's good," Qiu Nan began to recount the events of the past two days. "When we woke up that day, we didn't see you. We searched around for a long time but couldn't find you. Later, Senior Brother Yin said that you had something to do and were called away by the sect leader. As it was getting dark, Shuang Wan and I had no choice but to leave first."
"We were so worried because you two hadn't shown up for the past few days. We asked a few senior brothers, but they all said they didn't know anything. Luckily, you came today."
Fu Yunshu: "I'm sorry to have worried you."
Qiu Nan didn't ask where they had been these past few days, and Fu Yunshu simply pretended not to know.
Out of the corner of his eye, Fu Yunshu caught a familiar figure and realized that Pan Tianlei was still there.
"Grandmaster Uncle," Song Wenzhuo's voice echoed in my mind, "I forgot to tell you, this person will probably have to stay for a few days."
