Chapter 26

Chapter 26

The last compartment was a utility room, which was filled with mops and other tools. The girl fell on top of them, staining all the cleaning tools red.

Even though she was completely unrecognizable, Wen Bei recognized her as the girl who had visited the factory with him yesterday.

She is only sixteen years old.

Before the end of the world, children should have been at school and playing coquettishly in their parents' arms.

Wen Bei's face turned gloomy. He rarely got so angry.

Before he could make the next move, another person entered the restroom. He saw Wen Bei standing there motionless and couldn't help but approach curiously: "Are you new here? What are you looking at?"

The moment he walked in, his pupils shrank sharply and he screamed, "Another death!"

...

Soon the Lawful Army arrived, led by a man who looked to be about thirty years old. He had a very elegant appearance, but two devil-like horns protruded from his forehead due to deformation.

His eyes revealed a sharpness that was inconsistent with his appearance, and it seemed as if he could strip people naked and see through them when he glanced at them.

"Captain Lan, I'm not the first witness, he is." The employee who just screamed and attracted everyone pointed at Wen Bei and shouted.

His voice was shaking. "Can I go back to my workstation now?"

The man known as Captain Lan raised an eyebrow and glanced at Wen Bei: "Are you new to the base?"

This is a person with a very sharp vision.

Wen Bei calmly said, "Yeah."

He seemed a little too calm, in stark contrast to the trembling man beside him.

Captain Lan laughed in an ambiguous manner and looked at the employee who had just spoken: "You are so brave. It's not easy to survive this long in the apocalypse."

The employee, feeling somewhat embarrassed after being ridiculed, whispered to the person next to him, "I'm just an ordinary person. What's wrong with being a little timid? Isn't protecting us what polluters should do?"

He spoke in what he thought was a quiet voice, but he forgot that the polluters' indicators were higher than those of ordinary people, even their hearing.

The few lawful soldiers following behind Team Lan heard this and looked a little dissatisfied.

Wen Bei, who was standing aside, took these minor disputes into consideration.

It seems that as he expected, this base not only has a huge gap between the rich and the poor, but also conflicts between polluters and ordinary people.

This is inevitable.

Captain Lan, on the other hand, seemed the most indifferent. He waved his hand and said, "Come with me and take the statement."

Wen Bei was a little surprised.

This process is surprisingly similar to calling the police before the apocalypse.

Captain Lan seemed to see his confusion and asked with a half-smile, "Do you know how many people have died at the Snowflake Factory in the past two weeks?"

Wen Bei shook his head.

Captain Lan's expression turned serious. "Including this girl, there are fifteen of us in total."

There are only a few people in a factory, but fifteen people died in just half a month.

If it were an ordinary murder case, it might not attract much attention in the apocalypse where people can be killed at any time.

But serial murders are different. When the external threat is serious, the public must not be panicked internally. If the murderer is not found one day, it will be a blatant threat to their lawful army.

When Wen Bei followed them to find a place to take the statement, he happened to see the aunt who asked the girl to follow her closely yesterday rushing here.

She burst into tears as she looked at the girl's body wrapped in white cloth. It was like the daughter she was unable to protect at the time. She didn't expect that if it happened again, she would still be unable to protect her.

The woman cried quietly, but the people around her resonated with her. The factory, which had been noisy just a moment ago, suddenly became much quieter.

Almost everyone who survives the apocalypse has lost their loved ones and friends.

"It must have been the polluters who did it."

"What polluter? This is the polluter..."

"Shh! Don't mention this. Do you want to die?"

Captain Lan, who had not reacted until now, turned around suddenly after hearing the three words "filthy people" and glanced at the people who had just spoken with a warning.

The pressure from the high-level polluter spread out, immediately scaring those people back.

This was just a minor episode, but Wen Bei noticed that the faces of those lawful troops had become much gloomier.

Not until he finished taking the statement did the person who performed the autopsy report the girl's specific time of death.

It was midnight yesterday.

Captain Lan looked at Wen Bei: "What were you doing last night?"

Wen Bei: "I have been sleeping in a guesthouse, and my roommate can prove it."

He is less likely to be suspected.

Not only is he an ordinary person without special abilities, but he is also a newcomer to the base.

When this serial murder occurred, he had not even entered the base.

But as the first eyewitness, I still have to follow the procedures.

Team Lan asked a few more questions and then decided to let Wen Bei go back first.

Before Wen Bei finally left, he couldn't help but turn around and ask, "Can I ask a question?"

Captain Lan smiled and said, "Excuse me."

He returned to his original elegant appearance.

Wen Bei: "Why were you angry just now?"

Captain Lan paused, the polite smile in his eyes fading a little: "The word 'filthy'... is an insult."

After saying this, seeing that he obviously had no intention of having a deeper conversation, Wen Bei apologized and slowly walked out of his sight.

...

With this incident, Wen Bei's plan to visit the Snow Flower Factory again naturally had to be interrupted.

He simply went back to his room in the guesthouse.

Unexpectedly, I met Ruan Tiantian again by chance.

He was arguing with a plain-looking man with yellow teeth due to a mutation at the door of the room.

When the man smiled, all his yellow teeth were exposed, and there was a foul smell.

Ruan Tiantian almost felt sick, but this was his business, so he could only continue to smile.

But he didn't expect Wen Bei to come back suddenly, and he didn't expect that as soon as Wen Bei came over, the man who had just touched his little hand and called him his sweetheart was suddenly attracted to his attention.

The greedy look on his face was like a toad seeing a pure white swan and wishing he could stick to it directly.

Even after Wen Bei went straight back to his room and closed the door, he couldn't move his eyes away, his mouth opening and closing: "Tiantian, who is that?"

Ruan Tiantian was about to get angry when she suddenly had another bad idea: "He's just a gigolo kept by the polluter."

When the man heard the word "support," many thoughts immediately crossed his mind: "I'm willing to pay a lot of crystals, can I get him to follow me?"

Ruan Tiantian had never seen him look so useless. She was jealous to the point of madness, yet she pretended to be hesitant. "But his current backer seems to be very powerful."

"Would a powerful person live in a guesthouse?" The man obviously didn't believe it. His inherent arrogance was easily provoked by Ruan Tiantian.

Ruan Tiantian subtly encouraged him to harass Wen Bei.

When a man is complimented, he immediately loses his mind. He thinks of the stunning glimpse he got from Wen Bei when he passed by just now.

It felt like countless ants were gnawing at my heart.

He couldn't help but raise his hand to knock on the door.

Ruan Tiantian was overjoyed when he saw this. He quickly ran back to his room, locked the door, and pretended that this matter had nothing to do with him.

Wen Bei didn't open the door completely. He only opened it a little and looked at him coldly through the gap: "Is there something wrong?"

Man: "Isn't it uncomfortable living here?"

Wen Bei looked at him in confusion, not yet realizing what he meant.

The moment he noticed his lustful and evil eyes, he realized what this person wanted to do.

Sure enough, the man continued with his boastful remarks: "I have a three-bedroom apartment on this base. If you are willing to follow me, you can move out of this shabby six-person room, and I can also pay you every month..."

"Pay for what?"

A chilling voice sounded from behind him.

Huang Ya didn't realize the seriousness of the problem yet. He turned around and said, "Who the hell are you..."

Before he could finish his words, the moment he met those scarlet eyes, he suddenly stopped talking like a duck with its neck strangled.

At that moment, he even thought he saw a demon crawling out of hell.

Qiu Ting repeated word by word: "What can you pay?"

Without waiting for his answer, she continued: "Your life?"

A circle of black metal-like substance suddenly locked around his throat and lifted him up.

The man's toes couldn't even touch the floor, and his face instantly turned the color of liver.

At the moment when he was about to faint with his eyes rolled back, Qiu Tin moved his fingertips and the circle of black substance released him.

The man retched and almost vomited out the acid in his stomach.

He took a deep breath of fresh air and even stuck out his tongue.

But before he could catch his breath, the black circle locked around his neck again.

This went on so many times that Huang Ya no longer had the strength to resist. His fingers twitched and his eyes were blacked out from the squeezing.

Qiu Cheng looked like a wicked hunter teasing his prey. The corners of his mouth curved slightly, but there was no smile in his eyes.

He stood there calmly, as if it wasn't him who pushed the man to the brink of death and then pulled him back.

Seeing that Huang Ya was about to pass out, Wen Bei, who had witnessed the entire one-sided beating, pushed open the door and frowned on his pretty face: "Stop hitting me."

Qiu Ting turned to look at him, his scarlet eyes turned vertical due to murderous intent, and he looked extremely cold: "Don't you want me to kill him?"

The corners of his mouth became straight, and a drop of blood was splashed on his face at some point, like a red teardrop mole under his eye.

Huang Ya raised his head with great effort to look at Wen Bei. At this moment, the young man looked like an angel in his eyes. Not only did he have an angelic face, but he also had an angelic kindness.

When Huang Ya opened his mouth, his front teeth were gone: "Jiujiuwo!"

The angel lowered his head, his black and white eyes clearly reflecting his miserable figure, and then he said the cruelest words in the most innocent tone: "Don't throw garbage at the door."

Huang Ya's eyes rolled back, and he finally couldn't hold on any longer and fainted.

Wenbei:?

He didn't realize how much of a blow his words had been to Huang Ya.

He simply found it an eyesore.

Qiu Ting suddenly laughed again, this time with a smile in his eyes. He suddenly stepped on Huang Ya's stomach, forcibly waking him up again, and said with his thin lips: "Get lost."

Huang Ya was in so much pain that he almost died, but he didn't dare to faint again. He crawled and rolled downstairs to escape, as if there was a terrifying man-eating monster behind him.

Qiu Tinge followed Wen Bei into the room, looking very happy: "Little fox, where did you go to play today?"
