Chapter 26: People from Wei Mansion

Stepping into the Jingsi Pavilion, you will see snow all over the ground and withered flowers and trees.

It's obvious at first glance that this place has been in disrepair for many years and is rarely taken care of.

Because of Yuan Zhizhi's birth and her own confinement, Yuan Zhao hasn't been to Jingsi Pavilion for almost half a year.

Ever since she became pregnant with Yuan Zhizhi, the old lady had told her not to worry about these things anymore. At that time, she trusted the old lady and really couldn't spare any more energy.

Now when he came over and saw this deserted yard, Yuan Zhao understood everything at a glance.

"Why are we so unlucky? Why did they assign us to Jingsi Pavilion when we could go anywhere else in the Wei Mansion?"

"Yeah, this young master is like a dead person all day long, with a blank face and no expression at all."

"Look at how impressive the people in Songyan Hall are! Just the other day, Aunt Cui's grandson even invited us to a banquet. How generous of him! And look at us here, we have to serve a grown man his shit and urine. He's just a useless person, and he still needs to be served?"

Yuan Zhao and his companions walked to the corridor, and before they reached the door of the main house, they heard two servants sitting at the door and talking.

There were not many servants serving in Jingsi Pavilion. Yuan Musheng did not like to be disturbed, so there were only two servants who cleaned and served him.

Hearing these dirty words, Gan Tang was about to step forward, but was stopped by Yuan Zhao.

They stood at the corner and listened to the two servants continue:

"I heard that our eldest son was also a prominent figure in the past, but later on, for some reason, his leg was crippled and he became like this."

"How can we know these inside stories? But I think that the master has no hope for this eldest son anyway."

"The last time I passed by the study, I heard the master and several other officials from the government office constantly praising the young genius from Xingyu Lane, someone named Wei Tianci."

"Tsk, there's a loser here. The Third Young Master is missing again. Now there are only two girls left. What use are they? I also heard from Fengqiyuan that Madam's health has not been good. I guess she won't be able to have another child even if she wants to..."

"Although this lady is a princess of noble status, she has probably become a yellow-faced woman after all these years! If I were a master, I would have three wives and four concubines. Wouldn't that make me happy? Why worry about not having a son?"

"Tsk... isn't it just because she's a princess? Everyone in Yangzhou doesn't know that our Wei Mansion has a jealous 'tiger mother'? Who doesn't have three wives and four concubines? Only this one in our house, I guess she won't even be able to find a wife in the future, hahaha..."

"Which daughter would be willing to marry a useless man? I don't think he would..."

Before the servant could finish his words, Biyun picked him up one by one.

The two of them looked terrified and fluttered in the air:

"Who are you?"

"How dare you arrest us! We are from the Wei Mansion! Be careful that the old lady will tear your tendons apart..."

Biyun loosened her grip and threw the two men directly in front of Yuan Zhao.

The two servants looked up and saw Yuan Zhao standing in front of them, looking down at them.

She was just standing there, but at this moment, the aura of a superior was fully displayed.

The two men immediately trembled all over and kowtowed repeatedly to admit their mistakes:

"Ma'am, I was wrong! I shouldn't have said such nonsense!"

Yuan Zhao held Yuan Zhizhi in one hand and held Yuan Nan'an's hand with the other. Her face was calm, but her heart was broken.

She was not afraid of rumors, but her son had suffered so much, and these people actually insulted him like this right at his door!

Yuan Zhao couldn't imagine how much dirty talk Yuan Musheng had endured during the days he was away.

She looked at the two servants and felt that they looked unfamiliar.

Gan Tang then asked, "When did you two come to work?"

The two servants fell to the ground and trembled. Everyone in the mansion knew about the big disturbance Yuan Zhao had caused in Songyan Hall.

But she hasn't made any other moves in the past few days, and the servant didn't expect to run into her in Jingsi Pavilion today.

So they both answered honestly: "Yes...I came here three months ago."

"Where is the servant who served the eldest master before?" Gan Tang said angrily.

"The two servants before made a mistake... and were driven away by the old lady, so she sent us here..." One of the servants answered tremblingly.

Yuan Zhao's hands clenched unconsciously.

The previous servant was chosen by her and had been beaten many times. The old lady replaced him when she was not paying attention, allowing others to abuse her son!

"Drag him away and beat him to death."

Yuan Zhao showed no mercy and handled the matter very decisively.

"Ma'am, no!"

"Madam, please let us go!"

"Madam! Madam! Old lady, help!"

Yuan Zhao stood there, watching the two servants being dragged away indifferently.

She felt uneasy, and it wasn't until Yuan Nanan pulled her hand that she came to her senses.

She looked down at her second daughter, squatted down and asked lightly, "Nannan, are you afraid?"

Yuan Nan'an asked in return: "What are you afraid of?"

Yuan Zhao looked at her without answering. She had beaten two servants to death in front of her eight-year-old daughter, and she was afraid that Yuan Nan'an would be frightened.

Yuan Nan'an seemed to have guessed her thoughts and asked her, "Why should you be afraid? They are servants, but they can't take good care of Big Brother, and they even speak ill of him. If we let them do what they will, what if one day they really kill Big Brother?"

She said this with a clear and firm look in her eyes.

Seeing this, Yuan Zhao felt much more relieved.

She grew up in the palace since she was a child. Although she was the empress, she was a princess of the legitimate line and was very much loved.

But there is never a lack of cunning, treachery and intrigue in the palace.

Because she felt that her life was too tiring and too hard, after having her own children, she wanted them to live a simple life, away from the palace and the gossip of the capital.

In the past, she always protected these children under her body and prevented them from experiencing the dangers of the outside world.

But now, she realized that she had done something wrong. This would only make them as blinded as she was and unable to judge people clearly.

If she relaxes, someone will take advantage of the situation and push her and her children into the abyss.

So now she squatted in front of Yuan Nan'an and said to her solemnly: "Nan'an, you must remember, if the enemy is in front of you, if you are not ruthless to them, then they will be ruthless to you!"

Yuan Nanan nodded. Although she still didn't fully understand it, she understood part of the truth.

After dealing with the two servants, Yuan Zhao stood up and took Yuan Nan'an's hand and walked lightly into the main house. The house was also deserted.

Yuan Musheng sat beside the dying charcoal fire and read quietly, as if everything happening outside had nothing to do with him.

Hearing someone coming in, he looked up slightly and saw Yuan Zhao at the door.

"Mother, you're here." His voice was gentle, very different from the cold Yuan Musheng that Yuan Zhao met half a year ago.
