Chapter 282 Mid-Autumn Night

August 15th, Mid-Autumn Night.

Huo Yan and Yuan Musheng had already left, but Yuan Zhao still got the rest of the family together and held a simple family dinner.

Although it was a family dinner, the atmosphere at the table was not very lively and everyone felt heavy in their hearts.

Because the war was approaching and everyone was worried recently, no one was in the mood to celebrate. They just had dinner together to show their reunion.

As soon as Huo Yan and Yuan Musheng left, the burden on Yuan Heng's shoulders suddenly became much heavier.

Due to the busy military affairs, he had not slept for several nights in a row, and there was a dark circle under his eyes.

His whole mood was calm and composed, but there was always a hint of fatigue.

Yuan Xuan was not much better off. He took over the affairs left by Yuan Musheng and ran between the general's mansion and the military camp every day.

Although he never complained, his expression lacked some of his former ease.

Yuan Nan'an went out early and came back late, sweating profusely in the martial arts training ground every day. When he returned home, he was often so tired that he couldn't even eat.

Among the children, only Yuan Qiyu had nothing to worry about and ate his food with hearty mouthfuls.

I saw that he had a lamb leg in his left hand and an elbow in his right hand. His mouth was stuffed full, with his cheeks bulging like a hamster.

His mouth was not idle, he chewed and gave vague instructions to Yuan Heng beside him.

"San'er~ I want to eat beef!"

Yuan Heng supported his forehead without even raising his eyelids. He held the wine glass in his left hand, but with his right hand he obediently picked up a piece of beef and put it in the bowl for him.

Yuan Qiyu chewed it with great pleasure, and continued to shout,

"San'er~ Can I have some soup?"

Yuan Heng turned his head to look at him, and seeing that both his hands were busy, he sighed helplessly, raised his hand to scoop him a spoonful of hot soup, and handed it to his mouth.

Yuan Qiyu gulped down the soup, and Yuan Heng wiped the soup from the corner of his mouth with some disgust.

His eyes glanced at the large plate of lamb legs on the table again, and he urged excitedly,

"San'er, don't just drink...try this lamb leg, it's delicious!"

Yuan Heng looked at the little guy in front of him, his mouth twitched slightly, as if he was used to it. He put down his handkerchief and replied lazily,

"Okay, okay, eat less and leave some for others."

Yuan Qiyu blinked his eyes, looking very confident.

"If you don't eat, I'll eat more!"

As he said this, he took another bite of the lamb chop in his hand.

Yuan Zhao watched the interaction between the uncle and nephew, and a faint smile appeared in his eyes.

She originally wanted to say a few words to correct Yuan Qiyu's disrespectful behavior, but in the end she gave up.

These two have always been like this, one is a big eater and a noisy one, the other is doting and indulgent. Watching them get along, one can't help but feel a little warm.

The atmosphere at the table finally eased a bit due to Yuan Qiyu's mischief, and the originally dull air became more lively.

Yuan Nan'an looked at Yuan Qiyu eating so happily and couldn't help but sigh,

"I really envy you. You don't have to worry about anything and just eat."

Yuan Xuan rarely curled the corners of his lips, "Yeah, no wonder Third Uncle dotes on him the most."

Upon hearing this, Yuan Heng glanced at Yuan Xuan and said lightly,

"If you can be like him, don't think too much, and I will spoil you too."

Yuan Zhao looked at them with a smile, raised his hand to add some wine to Yuan Heng, and said softly: "Don't just take care of him, eat more yourself."

Upon hearing this, Yuan Heng glanced at Yuan Zhao, then responded softly and drank the glass.

After the meal, the children were sleepy and went back to their rooms one after another.

Only Yuan Heng remained at the table.

He drank a lot, buried his head in his folded arms, breathing steadily, as if he had fallen asleep.

In the candlelight, his profile was hidden in the light and shadow, with a hint of fatigue.

Yuan Zhao came back after sending the children to school and saw him still lying on the table. He couldn't help but sigh.

She walked up to him and gently shook his shoulders, "Ah Heng, if you're tired, go back to your room and sleep."

Yuan Heng did not respond.

Yuan Zhao patiently called out twice more: "Ah Heng... Ah Heng..."

Unexpectedly, Yuan Heng was still holding the wine glass tightly in his hand. When he heard the call, he seemed to be disturbed, frowned slightly, and impatiently threw the wine glass to the ground. His voice was low and tired.

"Don't touch me!"

“Snap—”

The porcelain cup smashed to pieces on the ground, fragments flying everywhere, breaking the silence of the night.

Yuan Zhao was slightly startled, and his movements froze. He looked at him quietly without saying anything.

After a moment's silence, Yuan Heng seemed to wake up belatedly. His gaze paused slightly, and when he turned around and saw Yuan Zhao standing beside him, his expression suddenly became flustered.

He stood up quickly, his movements a little hasty, his voice low and hoarse with a bit of bewilderment.

"Royal sister..."

Yuan Zhao was not angry, his expression was normal. He looked at him gently and ordered his servants to come in and clean up the debris.

I took a step closer and patted his shoulder gently, "Come with me."

Outside the house, the night was as dark as water, and the cold moonlight fell on the stone path, making the shadows look particularly slender.

Yuan Zhao was in front, walking slowly and steadily. Yuan Heng followed behind her, his figure swaying slightly, obviously still drunk.

The night breeze on the road carried a faint scent of osmanthus, blowing away the dullness in the house.

The two walked all the way to the warm room. The room was already as warm as spring, and the sobering soup that Yuan Zhao had ordered to be delivered in advance was steaming.

Yuan Zhao sat down slowly and motioned Yuan Heng to sit down as well.

Yuan Heng was silent for a moment, his eyes fell on the bowl of sobering soup. He stared at it for a moment, then picked it up, tilted his head back and drank it all in one gulp.

The warm medicinal soup slid down his throat into his stomach, taking away some of the dullness from drinking and dispelling his fatigue of the past few days.
