Chapter 50 To the Master

Everyone in Heishan Village was sleeping soundly tonight. Several night watchmen were patrolling the village and were unknowingly dragged into the darkness and died silently.

Xiaobai brought a few people to the threshing ground in the center of the village. It sniffed around and went to a red brick house on the other side of the threshing ground.

Huo Yan brought Yuan Zhao and gently landed on the roof, lifted a tile, and the scene below was revealed.

Three people were talking. One was the leader of the night watch who had just led a few people into the village, named Wanquan, and the other was Aunt Zhou.

The middle-aged man standing in front of the two of them looked older.

Yuan Zhao heard Aunt Zhou call him "village chief".

"What happened to those people who came into the village tonight?" The village chief was sitting at the table. He had a gloomy and unfriendly look on his face and didn't look like a farmer who worked hard in the fields.

"We found them outside the village. They said they were here to stay overnight and took the small path into the village," Wan Quan replied. "It's just that the woman's appearance was strange."

The village chief glanced at Aunt Zhou again. Aunt Zhou still had a strange smile on her face. "I tried it, and that young couple looks real. The luggage they brought is indeed what business people should bring. But... they look a little too good..."

"Village chief, the mountain has been blocked by heavy snow these days. I think it would be best to send these people to the master!" Wan Quan suggested.

master?

Yuan Zhao and Huo Yan looked at each other.

But the village chief shook his head and said, "There's news from the south that the investigation has been intense recently, and the capital has sent a general here, asking us not to act rashly."

But Aunt Zhou frowned, "Isn't that a matter in the south? What does it have to do with us? Besides, the mountains have been blocked by heavy snow recently, and the master's stock is about to run out. We need to hurry up."

Hearing this, the village chief smiled grimly, "With the snowstorm this year and so many refugees, are you still worried about running out of goods?"

A chill ran through Yuan Zhao's body.

What are these people going to do?

They listened for a while until everyone in the room left, and then Huo Yan whispered something to Mo Yu.

Yuan Zhao thought that Biyun was still unknown, so he said to Xiaobai, "Xiaobai, go find Biyun and go back with her first."

Mo Yu, who was about to leave, paused when she heard this and asked, "Are you talking about a woman wearing a cloak and black clothes?"

Yuan Zhao nodded, "Did you meet?"

A trace of embarrassment flashed across Mo Yu's face, and he scratched his head. "Then I should know where she is. I'll go and pass on the message."

Huo Yan also understood and guessed that their people had arrested someone by mistake.

His face darkened. "That's your Highness's maid. Go and release her."

Your Highness?

Mo Yu was thinking about this word all the way away.

Which prince?

If it’s not His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, then it must be... Her Royal Highness the Princess?

Could the woman next to the general be Princess Showa?

No wonder the general behaved so strangely, it turned out to be a reunion of old friends~

Mo Yu's guess was about to come out, and he always felt that he was hiding a big secret.

Huo Yan was still holding Qi Yu, and with his other hand he held Yuan Zhao's and led her into the room.

The room looked very simple, with only a wooden table and a wooden cabinet.

He groped around with his hands and soon found the mechanism. The wall moved away, revealing a long trail.

A foul smell came from the other end of the tunnel.

The two walked in, the tunnel extended downwards, and at the end was a dark room.

Yuan Zhao held the candlestick in his hand, and his eyes widened when he saw what was in the dark room.

There were several large vats in the dark room, and they were filled with black poisonous insects.

She swallowed, her hair standing on end, "Why...are there these things here?"

Huo Yan's expression also turned unhappy. "This place is probably just a transit point. The one who actually uses these Gu worms is probably the 'Master' they're talking about."

"Then what should we do next?" Yuan Zhao looked at these densely packed poisonous insects and couldn't help but move closer to Huo Yan.

She has been afraid of this kind of insect since she was a child.

Huo Yan grabbed her wrist and pulled her closer, then took the candlestick from her hand.

He threw it with one hand and directly into one of the large vats.

Suddenly the fire became brighter.

When those poisonous insects encountered fire, they were like encountering their natural enemies and began to crawl out of the tank in all directions.

Huo Yan pulled Yuan Zhao back quickly, then pressed the mechanism on the wall. The stone wall fell down, trapping the poisonous insects in the dark room.

When the two came out, Yuan Zhao discovered that the village was full of fire.

She glanced at Huo Yan and immediately understood that this was his arrangement.

"I'll take you out of the village." Huo Yan weighed the little carrot head in his arms.

The winter was dry, and fires broke out everywhere, connecting the fields into a whole area and engulfing the entire village in flames.

As expected, Yuan Zhao saw Biyun outside the village.

"Your Highness!" As soon as she saw Yuan Zhao, Biyun hurriedly came forward to greet him.

She looked a little disheveled, as if she had just been tied up. Yuan Zhao walked up to her and took a look at her. He was relieved to confirm that she was okay.

"Your Highness, I met this man not long after I entered the village. He tied me up without saying a word, so I couldn't rescue the young master..." Biyun glanced at Mo Yu behind her, and Mo Yu touched his nose embarrassedly.

Yuan Zhao patted her hands and said, "It's okay. Xiaoyu has been rescued by Huo Yan."

"Huo..." Only then did Biyun notice the man behind Yuan Zhao. The man was dressed in black and had an extremely powerful aura. He was holding a child wrapped in a cloak in his arms. It was Yuan Qiyu.

"General Huo..." Biyun was tongue-tied.

She had followed Yuan Zhao since she was a child, so naturally she knew Huo Yan.

But, isn't General Huo in the northwest? Why is he here?

Other people under Huo Yan were also gathered here. They were all surprised when they heard Yuan Zhao calling them by their names.

Huo Yan then introduced her to the others, "This is Princess Showa."

Mo Yu's eyes lit up. Sure enough, it was really Her Royal Highness the Princess!

"Greetings, Princess!" Several people bowed.

Yuan Zhao raised her hand. Huo Yan walked to her side and asked her, "It's getting late and the dew is heavy. I'll take you back to the Big Buddha Temple first. Xiaoyu needs treatment. There's a military doctor with me. Let him go and see Xiaoyu."

She nodded and glanced at the burning village behind her. Before she could ask, Huo Yan continued, "Don't worry, the family who abused Xiaoyu has been taken out separately by my men. If you want to ask anything, you can ask tomorrow."

Yuan Zhao stopped looking at the village and turned to look at Huo Yan, their eyes meeting.

He lowered his head, his eyes always focused on her.

In the firelight, half of his face was bright and half was in shadow.

Suddenly, she recalled many past New Years when they had stood side by side like this, watching the New Year's fireworks.

"I'll take care of everything for tonight. No one else will know you're here. I'll also handle Xiaoyu's situation. No one will know..."

His voice was patient, and she said nothing, but he had arranged everything.

He always knew what she was thinking.

Yuan Zhao looked at the pair of eyes staring at her and couldn't help feeling flustered. She lowered her head and looked away.
