"Who said that the Wei family's affairs are trivial?" A hearty male voice came over.
Wei Duan and his wife were both startled. They looked in the direction of the sound and found that it came from the carriage behind.
"Who said the emperor wouldn't care about the Wei family's affairs?" the male voice continued.
Immediately afterwards, a young man in a silver-white satin robe jumped down from the carriage. It was the prince who was ordered to announce the decree.
Wei Duan and Wang took a quick look at the prince, and seeing that he was still young, they looked down on him.
"Hey, where did this ignorant young man come from? You are not allowed to talk nonsense in front of the Wei family!" Wang looked arrogant and her tone was threatening.
"Go away, go away! Where are you from? How dare you park your carriage in front of our Wei Mansion? Do you know the origin of our Wei family?" Wei Duan's housekeeper shouted loudly.
He scolded and chased the person away at the same time.
"How dare you! His Royal Highness the Crown Prince is here, who dares to be rude!" The Crown Prince's entourage jumped off their horses and shouted.
As soon as this scolding came out, two guards jumped in front of the butler, drew their swords and blocked his way.
Because the prince always liked to do things on his own, he didn't wait for his attendants to lift the curtain for him and jumped out of the carriage first. Wei Duan and his wife didn't notice his attendants and mistakenly thought he was just an ordinary rich man's young master.
"Ouch!" The housekeeper was startled and fell to the ground with his legs going weak.
"What...what...Your Highness the Crown Prince?" Wei Duan stammered, staring at the Crown Prince blankly.
"What are you still standing there for? His Royal Highness the Crown Prince has arrived, and you're not kneeling and paying your respects? You're an official, don't you even know this little etiquette?" The Crown Prince's entourage stepped forward and said sternly.
"Brother, sister-in-law, please pay your respects to the prince quickly." Wei Han advised gently.
"Ah?! He is really... the prince?!" Wei Duan said with difficulty.
Wei Sanchuan nodded to them seriously: "Uncle, aunt, how dare we say such nonsense? His Royal Highness the Crown Prince just came from the palace with us."
"Your Highness, please forgive me! I was blind and failed to recognize the great man."
"Your Highness, please forgive me. I am old and my eyes are dim. I did not recognize you."
Wei Duan and his wife hurriedly knelt on the ground, begging for mercy and kowtowed.
Wei Duan's housekeeper was so frightened that he collapsed on the ground, with a foul-smelling liquid flowing out of his trouser legs.
The servants who had just followed Wei Duan and his wife also knelt down with their heads bowed.
Seeing this, Wei Han and his two grandchildren also knelt on the ground. However, they were just pretending, their upper bodies straight, looking around leisurely, with an expression of enjoying themselves.
The prince leisurely watched the old couple kowtow in the street, and did not ask them to stand up.
The prince had already heard Xia Zhengqi's brief account of the Wei family's affairs and hated the actions of the Wei family members very much. When he saw the head and wife of the Wei family, he wanted to vent his anger for Wei Mingyuan.
"As a family of officials, you should know the etiquette. How dare you allow this evil slave to offend His Royal Highness the Crown Prince?" Fei Hong, the Crown Prince's follower, stood beside the Crown Prince angrily and shouted.
The mansions of Wei Han and Wei Duan are located in the most prosperous area of the capital. The road in front of the mansion is wide, and there are many shops and restaurants nearby. There are constant pedestrians coming and going during the day.
Everyone saw the commotion in front of the Wei family mansion and ran over to watch the fun.
The prince's entourage, seeing their master looking at Wei Duan and his wife meaningfully as they kowtowed continuously, tactfully did not stop the onlookers.
"Today, I have come to your Wei family on the orders of the emperor to read the imperial edict." The prince said slowly in a calm tone.
"So, Mr. Wei and Mrs. Wei, what do you think, will the emperor take care of the Wei family's affairs?" After saying this, a sarcastic smile appeared on the prince's face.
"Of course, of course. The emperor is a wise ruler of Daxia, so he will naturally care about his people!" Wei Duan answered loudly while kowtowing.
"Okay, both of you stop kowtowing. My decree has not been read out yet." The prince glanced at Wei Duan and his wife.
"Please ask Elder Wei and the Wei clan leader to call all the relatives in their respective mansions to come out and receive the order."
"From my perspective, there must be quite a few people in your two residences. The space in front of the door is quite spacious, just right for kneeling and receiving the decree." After the prince finished speaking, a barely perceptible hint of pride flashed between his brows.
"Yes, yes, yes!" Wei Duan agreed hurriedly, turned around and told his servants to deliver a message to the mansion.
"Oh, the emperor has issued an imperial edict to the Wei family!"
The crowd around started talking about it.
"Are they going to confiscate our property?"
"I heard that the son-in-law of the Wei family, who is the minister, was just sentenced to beheading and his property was confiscated. Maybe he was implicated."
Soon, all the main relatives of Wei Han and Wei Duan came to the gate of the mansion and knelt down in a crowd.
The prince stood before them with an imposing manner, unfolded the imperial edict and read it aloud.
After reading it, all the members of the Wei family opened their mouths in shock, suppressing their emotions and kowtowed to express their gratitude.
Especially the Wei Duan couple, their eyes widened, and they secretly turned their heads to glance at Wei Mingyuan with an expression of disbelief.
Wei Mingyuan stood up and calmly took the imperial edict from the prince.
Then, the attendants brought out four trays, three of which were filled with silver, and the other tray contained a jade pendant.
The prince picked up the jade pendant from the tray and tied it around Wei Mingyuan's waist with his own hands. He said calmly, "This is a special gift from the emperor to you as a reward for your loyalty and filial piety. This is the jade pendant he once wore."
Wei Mingyuan's eyes were red, and he tried hard to hold back his tears and thanked him again.
"Oh my! The grandson of the Wei family was even commended by the Emperor!"
