Chapter 455: Going to court is like going to a grave

Jin Ting'an just stared at the hideous scar on Xitong's arm for a long time before he moved to the couch and sat down. The candlelight in the room stretched his shadow long.

With trembling hands, he carefully raised his hand to touch the scar.

When he was about to approach the scar, Xitong turned sideways, hugged his arm with his other hand, and turned his back to Jin Tingan.

Jin Ting'an silently withdrew his hand, tucked the corner of the quilt for her, turned around and sat down at the table.

The room was so quiet that the only sounds could be heard: the sound of burning candles and Xitong's long breathing.

Jin Ting'an folded his hands on the table, not feeling sleepy at all. The string that had been tense for a while finally broke at this moment.

He is not a fool, he naturally knows that Xitong likes him.

And he didn't really not care about Xitong at all. He was not a gentleman and could not remain indifferent to the teasing of a beautiful woman.

It was precisely because Xitong was special that he wanted to avoid her even more.

As a general, his life is no longer in his own hands once he goes to the battlefield, so he doesn't want to give Xitong too much response.

Jin Ting'an sat there until dawn.

Xitong rubbed her eyes, lifted the quilt, put on her shoes, stood up and looked at him.

"General, have you not slept all night?"

Jin Ting'an nodded.

"The general carried me to the couch?" She straightened her clothes and jokingly said, "Then it was the general who messed up my clothes too?"

In fact, she had the recollection that she seemed to feel uncomfortable wearing the clothes, so she tore them off in a daze.

"No, you made that up yourself."

Xitong was puzzled. Didn't they have a good chat last night? Why did she become so cold this morning? It was really strange.

As the two were talking, footsteps were heard at the door, followed by the sound of a lock being unlocked. Jin Ting'an stood up and walked towards the door.

Early in the morning, Yu Yiluo woke up and couldn't wait to find General Jin to inspect the results of the two people's assists.

General Jin unlocked the door and saw it opened immediately. He smiled and said, "I found the key. I came all this morning to open the door for you."

Yu Yiluo stretched her neck to look inside, then glanced at the dark circles under Jin Ting'an's eyes and his brocade robe without a single wrinkle, and thought to herself.

"No way, no way, how can he remain calm even with such a beautiful woman in front of him? I finally understand my grandfather's feelings. My uncle is such a big pig, but he doesn't even know how to grab the cabbage right in front of him."

When Empress Xian came to look for Yu Yiluo, she happened to hear this voice and almost tripped over herself.

My brother is really disappointing. He doesn't seem to be really ruthless towards Princess Xitong, but he seems to be so cold.

"Dad, Luo'er, I'm going to the military camp."

Jin Ting'an pinched Yu Yiluo's little face and said, "Don't lock the door carelessly next time. If you hurt your hand, it will hurt."

[This is so annoying. It's been so long and they haven't even gotten on the highway yet. I'm so fed up.]

Xitong walked out of the inner room, saw a few people at the door, and greeted them with a smile.

Then they went to have breakfast together.

While a few people were enjoying their breakfast comfortably, a layer of gloom shrouded the Golden Hall in the imperial palace.

The ministers looked at each other, praying in their hearts that the little princess would return to the palace as soon as possible.

The little princess was away these days, and their court session was like going to the grave. They were clearly just discussing some trivial matters, but the emperor had a stern face, making them think they had said something wrong.

Mu Chen had originally planned to look for Yang Xin after the envoys from the two countries left, but he had been unable to find the time. Now that he had finally finished his official duties, and the emperor was in this state, he didn't dare to speak at all.

The emperor is such a smart man, it is impossible that he doesn't know the reason why he found a reason to go to Changshan.

Judging from the emperor's mood these days, if he really said it, he would probably just tell him to go home and farm.

"Let's stop here for today. Going to court one by one is like going to a grave. Let's dismiss the court."

The emperor stood up and left with Eunuch Cao.

"Your Majesty, the little princess will probably be back soon."

Eunuch Cao followed behind the emperor and spoke cautiously.

The emperor stopped and turned to look at him expressionlessly, "Tell me, how many days have you been saying this?"

Luo'er is really something. Once she went to the general's mansion, she didn't even remember to go back to the palace. I really don't know where her home is.

When he left, he said he would stay for a few days, but it has been almost ten days and he still hasn't come back.

Eunuch Cao shut his mouth silently and stopped talking.

Returning to the imperial study, the emperor sat down at the long desk and looked up at Eunuch Cao. "How are the two men in red and white doing lately?"

The two were assigned to the Ministry of Justice, and he wanted to see what their abilities were. If one of them was useless, there was no need to keep him.

"Your Majesty, Lord Qin said that the two of them performed very well and lived up to the opportunity the Majesty gave them."

The emperor was silent for a while and took the tea handed to him by Eunuch Cao.

"I remember that Xiaowu and Xiaoliu don't have capable guards around them."

"Your Majesty, do you intend to have these two protect the Fifth and Sixth Princesses?"

Eunuch Cao observed the emperor's expression and said, "Your Highnesses all have guards specially trained by the emperor. The Fifth and Sixth Princesses are indeed only accompanied by ordinary guards."

"Leave the palace immediately and tell them that I want to choose guards for them."

Luo'er loves to join in the fun so much, I won't go back to the palace unless I believe it.

Eunuch Cao hesitated for a moment and said softly, "Your Majesty, it is not appropriate to let these two protect the princess."

Weren't they flower thieves before? Isn't the emperor worried that they might have other intentions towards the princess?

The emperor glanced at him sideways, "Why, what else can they do to the two princesses?"

Xiaowu and Xiaoliu have experienced what happened before, and if they are still easily deceived, they are really unworthy of being his daughters.

"I'll do it right away."

Eunuch Cao walked out of the imperial study and let out a long sigh.

The emperor is not worried, so what is he worried about? Just do it.

He collected his thoughts and walked down the white jade steps, then he saw Jin Ting'an coming towards him wearing a silver armor. He quickened his pace and walked in front of Jin Ting'an.

"This servant greets General Jin."

Jin Ting'an raised his hand, "Eunuch Cao, there's no need to be so polite. Is the Emperor in the Imperial Study?"

Eunuch Cao turned his head and glanced in the direction of the imperial study. He whispered, "Yes, it is, but the emperor is not in a good mood. General Jin, if it is not an urgent matter, please listen to my advice and come back another day."

Jin Ting'an looked puzzled. "Why is the emperor unhappy? Could it be that someone has asked him to take another concubine?"

Apart from this, I really can't think of anything else that would displease the emperor.

"General Jin really doesn't know?"

Eunuch Cao stared at him and said, "The little princess went to the general's mansion and has not returned for almost ten days. So if you go in, I don't know whether the emperor will take his anger out on you."

Jin Ting'an: "..."

The emperor is really capable of doing this, but since he is here, he can vent his anger if he wants to.

"Thank you, Eunuch Cao, it's really something important."

As he said this, he walked straight towards the imperial study.

Eunuch Cao shook his head and sighed, "You won't listen to advice."

The emperor probably doesn't like flowers or plants anymore, but General Jin still insists on bumping into them.
