The sun was shining brightly and Feng Qingqing was feeling very hot sitting in the carriage. She fanned herself with a palm-leaf fan in frustration, but the more she fanned, the hotter she became.
He threw the palm-leaf fan aside, pulled open the carriage curtain, and stuck his head out with a sullen face.
"Why so slow?"
Upon hearing this, the disguised guard hurried forward, wiping the sweat from his forehead while saying:
"My Lady, the weather is too hot. The horses haven't rested since leaving Li Country. They've been traveling constantly, and their meals are simple, so they should be tired now."
"Didn't you prepare any horse feed?"
The guard was stunned and shook his head.
"Where's your brain? You're preparing horses but not horse feed. If the horses starve to death, how am I going to Changshan?"
After Feng Qingqing finished speaking, the carriage jolted violently, and she raised her hand to hold onto the window to steady herself.
"What's the matter? You can't even drive a carriage properly."
"The horse is exhausted."
The guard said this carefully and added another sentence.
"It's not that I didn't prepare the horse feed, it's because the princess left in a hurry and didn't have time to prepare it."
The other guards around looked at the horse lying on the ground and dared not breathe.
The princess had a bad temper to begin with, and now that the horse was dead, how could they continue their journey?
They were standing in a place where there was no village in front and no shop behind, so they couldn't buy a horse at all.
Feng Qingqing had a gloomy face. She got off the tilted carriage, walked to the horse lying on the ground, and kicked it with her foot.
"Get up, get up."
After kicking the horse a few times with no response, she turned and glanced at the guards who were standing there with their heads down and silent.
"Why are you standing there like an idiot? Find a way to keep going."
It was really bad luck for her to go out. She almost lost her life after just one day's journey.
In order to save time, they took shortcuts along the way, and her butt was almost broken from the shaking. Now the horse was exhausted again.
"Madam, I've observed that there are no houses or inns nearby..."
"So you mean to let me travel on these two legs?"
Feng Qingqing pointed at her legs and interrupted the guard.
"I dare not, I will find a way right away."
Feng Qingqing walked to a big tree and sat down on the ground without any image.
The gentle breeze stirred the leaves, bringing a slight chill. She raised her sleeve to wipe the sweat from her face, and she began to hesitate.
"Princess, the journey is still long. How about we return to Li Country?"
The guard walked slowly to Feng Qingqing and asked cautiously.
"Go back? How can I go back when I haven't finished what I need to do?"
She glanced at the guard coldly, "If I hear you mention this again, I will chop you down."
She has already come out and cannot go back. No matter how much hardship she has to endure, she must take Yu Yiluo back, otherwise all the suffering she is going through now will be in vain.
"Yes, I know I was wrong and will not mention it again."
The guard said this in panic, and suddenly noticed a snake crawling on the tree trunk behind Feng Qingqing.
The color of the snake was extremely similar to that of the tree trunk. If the snake had not stuck its head out and spit out its tongue, she would not have noticed that there was a snake on the tree.
Seeing the guard staring, Feng Qingqing frowned, "What are you standing there for? Think of a solution."
The guard raised his hand and pointed behind her, "Madam, it's a snake."
As she opened her mouth to remind her, the snake suddenly attacked Feng Qingqing's arm. Feng Qingqing felt a stinging pain in her hand and subconsciously shook her hand, throwing the snake away.
The guard reacted quickly, stepped forward, drew his sword and cut the snake into several pieces, then walked to Feng Qingqing to check her injuries.
"Don't worry, my lady. This snake is not poisonous."
The guard breathed a sigh of relief after checking the wound.
Feng Qingqing stood up silently, picked up the sword and went to finish off the snake that had been broken into several pieces, venting the anger in her heart.
"Lady, there are a lot of snakes outside in this weather. You'd better be careful and don't get bitten again."
"You saw the snake and stood there stupidly, were you waiting for me to get bitten?"
Feng Qingqing subconsciously moved away from the bushes and asked dissatisfiedly.
"I dare not. Please, Madam, start your journey now."
The guard was worried that Feng Qingqing would get angry, so he quickly changed the subject.
"Have you figured out a solution?"
"You should stay on the horse, my lady. We will pull the carriage."
The guards knew that Feng Qingqing would not walk with them, so this was the only solution at the moment.
"That's more like it."
Feng Qingqing was very satisfied. She got on the carriage again and urged the guards to hurry on.
She was happy, but the guards were sorry. The ropes rubbed their arms and shoulders with blisters, and with the hot weather, they were soon exhausted and gasping for breath.
As the sun sets, the sky gradually darkens, and the heat covering the earth is blown away by the evening breeze.
Feng Qingqing rubbed her rumbling stomach and lifted the car curtain.
"Is there no place to rest? I'm hungry."
The guards pulling the carriage stopped and walked to her window, panting and saying, "Madam, there's still no place to rest up ahead. If you're hungry, I'll find a way to get you something to eat."
They brought little food with them and had already eaten it all by the time they were busy traveling yesterday.
I thought I would be able to find an inn to eat soon, but after walking for a whole day I still hadn't seen anyone.
"Go quickly, I'm starving."
Soon, the guards came back with food.
He started to make a fire outside, and when the food was roasted, he brought it to Feng Qingqing.
Feng Qingqing looked at the mushroom in the guard's hand and said in disbelief, "You're just going to give this to me?"
She felt pitiful enough when she ate the bread yesterday, but today there was no bread left, only mushrooms.
