Chapter 73: Look at the Account Book

Jin Ting'an came back from the palace and went straight to Jiang's yard.

"What's in the box?"

When Jiang saw Jin Ting'an come in, she put down the tea in her hand, stood up, dismissed the maids serving around her, and talked about something else.

"General, you have returned from the palace. I thought you and the Empress would talk more since we haven't seen each other for a long time."

As she spoke, she noticed the person behind Jin Ting'an, who was holding a piece of brightly colored cloth in his hand. He took the cloth with shining eyes.

"Is this a gift from the Empress? Look at the material, it's really excellent."

Jin Ting'an waved away the servant who was carrying the cloth. After all, Jiang was the general's wife, and he didn't want to embarrass her in front of the servants.

"Did you move anything in the box?"

Jiang placed the cloth on the table beside her and pretended to be dumbfounded, saying, "I don't understand what the general is saying."

Having said that, she still felt a little guilty.

With so many things, she really didn't expect Jin Ting'an to be able to tell what was missing.

"Don't you understand?" Jin Ting'an stared at her intently. "There are a few things missing from the box, including the incense burner, night-shining pearl, and inkstone that I specially prepared for you, Madam."

His sister likes incense, painting and writing, so he specially put these things in it. Unexpectedly, these things he carefully prepared disappeared.

Except for Jiang who took the key, the other servants didn't have the courage to do so.

"Oh, I remember now," Jiang didn't expect Jin Ting'an to remember it so clearly. He really cared about his sister.

Knowing she couldn't fool him, she smiled and pretended to have just remembered this matter. "I did take out the things that the general mentioned. There were too many of them and it was difficult to close the lid."

In fact, she just saw that those things were bigger and must be more valuable than other things, so she took them out.

Jin Ting'an sneered and naturally didn't believe her words.

"Okay, now bring the things back to me, along with the key to the warehouse."

When she heard that he wanted the key to the storehouse, Jiang's expression changed, "General, I will give you the key to the storehouse another day. You just came back from the palace, so have a good rest."

She took some things from the warehouse from time to time, and she didn't know whether Jin Ting'an remembered what he had.

"Jiang, are you trying to disobey this general's orders?"

Seeing that he exuded a terrifying aura of hostility, Jiang didn't dare to say anything more. She took out the key and handed it to him in a sullen manner.

"Since the General wants to see it, then let him see it!"

Jin Ting'an took the key and strode out to the warehouse.

Jiang followed him uneasily, praying in her heart that he would not notice anything, otherwise she would never be able to take charge of the household expenses.

But if I am not in charge, who will be in charge?

Thinking of this, Jiang calmed down again. Jin Ting'an only married her and had no concubines. As a general, he naturally would not be in charge of the household expenses, so this matter would only be handed over to her, the general's wife.

While he was thinking, he had already arrived at the warehouse. Jin Ting'an took out the key, opened the lock and pushed the door open.

Inside are the rewards given to him by the emperor over the years and the rare treasures he obtained during the wars.

"General, all these things are here. I will go get the account book and check it for you."

Jiang observed Jin Ting'an's expression. The emperor's rewards were all recorded. Even if she liked it, she didn't dare to take it, so she asked him to bring the account book.

Seeing her calm expression, Jin Ting'an lowered his eyes.

Am I worrying too much?

"What about the others? No records?"

Jiang's eyes flashed, "It's done. I'll go get them right away."

Watching her leaving, Jin Ting'an withdrew his gaze and checked everything in the warehouse.

In fact, he didn't remember what the things were. After all, some of them had been taken away for too long, and even if Jiang had taken them secretly, he might not have known about it.

He didn't have to wait long. Jiang came back with the account book and handed it to him.

"General, everything is here, but the concubine I brought yesterday has not been recorded yet. The others are all here."

Jiang held the handkerchief tightly, not daring to look directly into Jin Ting'an's eyes.

Jin Ting'an flipped through the account book casually and found that it did have all the records. He closed the book and handed it to Jiang, "Take it back!"

"Ah?" Jiang was stunned for a moment, then she reacted and took the account book, saying with a smile, "General, are you sure you want to check it?"

After saying this, I wanted to slap myself. Why did I say out loud what I was worried about?

"No, you did a great job. Bring back the ones you took out. I'll send them to the Empress someday."

Although Jiang was heartbroken, she also knew that Jin Ting'an seemed to have doubts about her, so she had to agree with a smile and did not dare to commit crimes again.

After returning to the yard, Jiang closed the door and drank a cup of tea to calm herself down.

"Madam, what's wrong with you?" the maid asked in confusion.

Shouldn't the lady be happy that the general is back?

Why does Madam look so uneasy? Doesn’t Madam want the general to come back?

"It's okay. Just put away the cloth that the queen gave me as a reward."

The maid picked up the cloth and said with a smile, "This cloth is really beautiful. The queen really cares about you and sends you any good cloth she has."

At this moment, a maid came in from the door.

"Madam, Empress Xian summons you to the palace."

Jiang stood up and asked, "Empress Xian?"

"It's the general's sister. Madam, please change your clothes and go quickly. She's already waiting at the door."

Upon hearing this, Jiang ordered the maid to help her change her clothes, wondering why Concubine Xian suddenly summoned her.

"Ma'am, it's done."

......

In the palace.

Empress Xian continued to embroider her handkerchief, waiting for Jiang to enter the palace.

She had originally planned to find an appropriate time, but seeing that her brother looked unhappy today, she was worried that something might have happened in the mansion.

Her father is old, and if Jiang Shi is restless and brings trouble to her father, that is something she doesn't want to see.

"Your Majesty, Jiang is here." The person who went to pick up Jiang came in to report.

Jiang secretly looked at the furnishings and decorations in Concubine Xian's palace, her eyes full of envy.

It is much more magnificent than her general's mansion, worthy of being the Empress's residence.

If it was where the queen lived, that would be terrible.

[Why don't you just come in and show some respect? Why are you looking around? I don't know what sin my uncle committed to marry a woman like you who supports her brother.]

"Your humble servant pays homage to Her Majesty Empress Xian." Jiang withdrew her gaze and bowed.

Empress Xian smiled and asked her to stand up and gave her a seat.

Huarui went forward and served tea to Jiang.

"Don't be so reserved. Thanks to you for taking care of my father all these years. I summoned you to the palace just to chat."

Seeing her so easy to talk to, Jiang relaxed and waved her hand, "Taking care of the old general is what I, your wife, should do. The general is fighting on the battlefield, and I, your wife, should take care of the general's mansion."

Yu Yiluo sneered in her heart when she heard this.

"Take care of the General's Mansion? I'm afraid if you keep doing this, the General's Mansion's warehouse will all belong to your Jiang family. You said this without even blushing. I've never seen such a shameless person."
