Chapter 42 Are You Nervous?
He Chi walked into the master bedroom. The curtains were opened a finger wide, and he could only see the twinkling lights on the river bank. The light from outside shone into the bedroom, leaving only a faint glow.
Jiang Yining had fallen asleep. She was lying on her side facing the door, her long, soft, slightly curly hair spread on the pillow like dark waves.
He held a pillow he brought from the guest bedroom in one hand and changed into pajamas before coming over.
He Chi closed the door, walked lightly to the inside of the big bed, and lay down on the bed carefully.
The bed was very big, and he and Jiang Yining both lay at the edge, with a long distance between them.
He Chi folded his hands under his head and stared at the bedroom ceiling for a long time, with Jiang Yining's even and gentle breathing in his ears.
Jiang Yining closed her eyes and didn't know where He Chi was, but she could feel that He Chi was not close to her.
It is easy to pretend to be asleep for a while, but it is difficult to pretend to be asleep all the time.
She pricked up her ears and listened for a long time, wondering if He Chi had fallen asleep, as there was no other sound.
Jiang Yining wanted to turn over. He felt tired after being in this position for so long.
Before she could move, she heard He Chi seem to sit up and move closer to her, almost touching her back.
His breath fell on her ear, which was very itchy. Jiang Yining couldn't help but move, and her long eyelashes fluttered irregularly a few times.
He Chi paused as he stretched out his hand. He asked, "Did I wake you up?"
Jiang Yining opened his eyes as He Chi said, pretending to have just woken up, and asked, "You're back?"
He Chi hummed, and explained, "I wanted to check your temperature, worried that you might have a fever again."
Jiang Yining said with a little disappointment, "I don't have a fever."
He Chi was still worried, so he got out of bed and gave her a thermometer. He only moved away a little after making sure she didn't have a fever.
He placed his pillow against Jiang Yining's. It was a two-meter-wide bed, and the two of them slept on the edge of the bed.
The man had no intention of moving back to his original position.
Jiang Yining glanced over there and suggested, "Let's sleep inside."
He Chi acted directly. He moved his pillow to the middle and did not forget to help Jiang Yining move it as well.
The two slept close to each other, but after a while, He Chi began to regret his decision.
The air in his nostrils was filled with the pleasant scent of Jiang Yining. This faint fragrance was like a catalyst, and He Chi tried hard to suppress the restlessness in his heart.
Jiang Yining's hand touched He Chi's arm, and in just a moment, she subconsciously retracted it.
In the darkness, He Chi closed his eyes. Knowing that she was still asleep, he asked, "Are you nervous?"
“No…no.”
There was a slight tremor in her voice as she spoke.
He Chi recognized it immediately.
He asked with a hint of helplessness, "Do you want me to sleep in the guest bedroom?"
Jiang Yining didn't answer directly, but just said, "I'm sleepy, let's go to sleep."
That means no need.
Jiang Yining really felt that she was not good enough, but it was not her fault. It was just that He Chi's presence was too strong. He was like a furnace, constantly supplying heat to her.
The man's breathing was also heavy, and his slightest movement attracted her attention.
Jiang Yining didn't really want to sleep in a separate bed. If she asked He Chi to move back to the master bedroom, would it seem like she was not reserved enough?
He Chi didn't fall asleep either. He closed his eyes and felt like regretting his decision to temporarily move out of the master bedroom.
If he proposed to move back now, would Jiang Yining think that he was not keeping his word?
We agreed to let her get used to it first, and it’s only been a few days since we started sleeping in separate rooms.
The two of them slept all night with their own thoughts. They slept well at first, but the next day Jiang Yining woke up first and found herself lying in He Chi's arms.
This posture was too ambiguous. Jiang Yining blushed and while He Chi was still asleep, she quietly moved back to her position.
He Chi was a light sleeper and woke up as soon as Jiang Yining moved. Worried that Jiang Yining would be shy again, he had to close her eyes first.
After a while, He Chi finally moved. He got up first, and when he saw Jiang Yining open her eyes, he said, "I'll go to the guest bathroom to wash up. After breakfast, I'll accompany you to the hospital for an IV drip."
"I don't have anything to do today. If you're busy, I can go by myself."
"It's not that busy, so I still have some time." He Chi said and got out of bed first.
Jiang Yining didn't say anything else.
She was supposed to go back to school today to train new teachers, but last night she asked other colleagues to take her place for a day.
When Jiang Yining was receiving an IV drip, Du Yingzhe came over to check on her. When he arrived, he saw He Chi feeding Jiang Yining water with a thermos cup.
The young couple no longer had the estrangement from yesterday. He came over and asked with a smile, "Have you reconciled?"
"I told you, husband and wife never hold grudges overnight. They fight at the head of the bed and make up at the foot of the bed."
Jiang Yining scolded, "Cousin, don't talk nonsense."
She didn't put her long hair up, but she put the hair on both sides behind her ears, with a few strands of hair covering her ears.
He Chi glanced at her and clearly saw that her ears hidden under her hair were faintly flushed.
Du Yingzhe teased her a few times, and she was also shy.
His wife is so thin-skinned.
He Chi glanced at Du Yingzhe and changed the subject, "Have you bought the house?"
"Go apply for a loan next Monday." Du Yingzhe sat down next to He Chi. "I've been through this before, so I'm qualified to talk to you guys. Talk things over more often. Don't argue all the time or have the cold war. It can easily hurt feelings..."
He Chi interrupted him, "Your work is so leisurely? Not busy?"
Du Yingzhe almost covered his mouth. "Don't talk about this in the hospital. Don't talk about whether you're busy or not. It's taboo."
He simply stopped sitting and warned, "Ningning, go back and take care of yourself. Don't get wet in the rain anymore. You have to take care of yourself."
Jiang Yining has become obedient. She even wants to go back to the night before last and slap herself twice so that she doesn't have to take injections or medicine.
She nodded, "I understand."
As soon as Du Yingzhe left, He Chi turned around and wanted to talk to Jiang Yining.
Before he could speak, Jiang Yining said with a sincere look in his eyes, "I really know I was wrong."
He Chi smiled faintly, "I know, but that's not what I want to talk about. I want to ask you if you want to go back to the company with me later?"
Jiang Yining thought that He Chi wanted to bring up the past just like his cousin, so he thought it would be right for him to admit his mistake first, but he didn't expect that this was what he wanted to say.
She asked in confusion, "Why should I go to the company with you?"
He Chi said, "I'm afraid you'll be bored at home alone. There's a small lounge in my office where you can sleep if you're tired..."
Jiang Yining murmured, "Isn't that even more boring?"
He Chi touched his nose and said, "Indeed."
He didn't know what he was thinking. He suddenly wanted Jiang Yining to go back to the company with him. He Chi stared at the IV drip and then drank water from Jiang Yining's thermos cup.
Jiang Yining saw that he was drinking water from the same place she had just drunk from. She pursed her lips. They had kissed each other twice, so drinking from the same bottle of water didn't seem like a big deal.
After the drip, He Chi sent Jiang Yining home.
The company had several documents that urgently needed his signature, so He Chi had to rush back to the company first.
Before going out, He Chi called his aunt over. After he went out, he thought of something and turned back.
