Chapter 103 Bearing the Consequences

Liu Chunhe is already sixteen years old and over 1.7 meters tall, a full head taller than Zhu Xiuqin.

Zhu Xiuqin's imposing manner weakened slightly after being glared at by him.

She didn't dare to actually lay a hand on him, but she was seething with anger inside, so she could only grit her teeth and curse viciously.

Liu Chunhe's lips twitched slightly.

Now that my sister is embroiled in the rat poison scandal, no one would be happy about that.

Just then, a series of hurried footsteps came from outside the door.

Liu Chunlin came running in, panting, carrying two grayish-brown rats in his hands.

Without saying a word, he walked to the bucket, bent down, and threw the rat in.

With a "plop," the mouse fell in, splashing water everywhere.

"Brother, we've caught the mouse."

He wiped his sweat, his voice slightly breathless.

"You said the rat was running strangely, so I looked along the wall and found it behind the woodpile."

It turned out that Liu Chunhe sensed something was wrong as soon as she entered the room.

The bucket was placed in the center of the room, and a dead rat lay on the floor. Chen Xinghua was dragged in by her hair, clearly having been wrongly accused.

He secretly winked at Liu Chunlin and whispered something.

"Go and catch that rat that just ran away."

That's how this scene came about.

They were still unwilling to believe that their own sister would do such a heinous thing.

But the reality before them was like a heavy hammer blow, shattering their last shred of illusion.

Those two lively little mice were caught in the same batch that Shen Cunpu brought.

Same fur color, same size.

They only lasted a few seconds after being forced to drink a mouthful of water.

His eyes rolled back suddenly, his limbs convulsed violently, he foamed at the mouth, his neck twisted, and after struggling for a moment, he became completely still.

The whole process happened in the blink of an eye; the death was extremely sudden and terrifying, enough to make anyone's scalp tingle.

Zhu Xiuqin pointed at the two small corpses on the ground, her voice trembling.

"Now you should believe me, right? This isn't a coincidence, nor is it a misjudgment. It's poison! It's aimed at us!"

Chen Xinghua lowered her head, her face as pale as paper.

The two children were so frightened that they trembled and huddled together, not daring to breathe.

The air in the room seemed to freeze, so oppressive that it was hard to breathe.

Finally, Liu Chunhe raised her head and her gaze fell on Su Qingzhi's face.

"Sister Su Qingzhi, what kind of poison is this? How can it be so potent? Even a rat couldn't survive for more than a few seconds?"

Su Qingzhi slowly shook her head, her brows furrowed.

"I've never seen anything like it, never seen anything like it. This kind of poison works so fast, without any warning."

Her heart was already in turmoil.

This highly toxic substance must have originated from some extremely secretive source, either because it was specially made abroad.

She was only certain of one thing.

There are currently no publicly available reports of this type of poison in China.

"Su Qingzhi, can that method you mentioned last time still be used?"

Zhu Xiuqin suddenly raised her head, her eyes flashing with a faint light.

Su Qingzhi immediately understood what she meant.

She was referring to the method she had mentioned before.

"As long as you dare to go, it will be useful."

Su Qingzhi spoke firmly, each word clear and distinct.

Zhu Xiuqin clenched her fists so tightly that her knuckles turned white and the veins on the back of her hands bulged.

She knew what the consequences of hiding would be.

Either something happens to the child, or the parent goes insane.

But what if we take a gamble?

Even if there's only a one in ten thousand chance of survival, she's willing to gamble.

"But I suggest you go tomorrow."

Su Qingzhi added.

Why?

Zhu Xiuqin looked up abruptly, her eyes full of confusion.

She thought she should rush out and file a complaint now, while the evidence was still there and the person was still alive.

Su Qingzhi's gaze slowly swept over everyone in the cave dwelling.

Shen Cunpu immediately understood what she meant.

He silently got up, took his mother's hand, and left the cave without saying a word.

Liu Chunhe also reacted instantly and hurriedly helped the dazed Chen Xinghua up.

With her other hand she held her younger brother Liu Chunlin tightly and whispered.

"Mom, let's go back first."

The mother and her two children lowered their heads and quickly walked out of the cave dwelling.

After most of the others had left, only Su Qingzhi and her son Zhu Xiuqin remained in the cave dwelling.

Su Qingzhi then lowered her voice and spoke slowly and deliberately.

"Tomorrow, you will pretend to have died from poisoning."

“I’ll come with my man. Liu Yuelan will definitely come to see for herself when she hears the news. We’ll catch her red-handed then.”

She paused, her gaze sharp as a knife.

She didn't explain in detail how to do it, and Zhu Xiuqin didn't dare to ask any more questions.

Her legs went weak and her heart pounded, but her mind remained unusually clear.

For her, Su Qingzhi was the only person who stood up for her.

She could only listen, believe, and do as instructed.

Before leaving, Su Qingzhi gave her some final instructions.

"Tonight, none of you are allowed to sleep in this cave. Find somewhere to hide for the night. Come back quietly in the middle of the night, just before dawn. Then lie down on the bed, close your eyes and pretend to be dead."

She explained.

This time difference is the only opportunity to ensure safety while creating a false impression.

Su Qingzhi never gave Zhu Xiuqin and her son a friendly look, and she usually wouldn't bother to speak to them when they met.

The reason they are willing to take action now is entirely because they cannot tolerate such heinous methods of poisoning.

She had no intention of being polite at this time, nor did she intend to appease anyone's emotions.

Everything that needs to be said has been said; the rest is up to them to work it out themselves.

After saying that, she didn't linger. She turned around, picked up the wooden bucket containing the highly poisonous well water, and walked steadily out of the cave.

"Oh, my bucket..."
