Chapter 146 Not an Illusion

Behind this calm surface, one always feels that some hidden crisis is quietly approaching.

Until late at night, the moon disappeared into the thick clouds.

Shen Zhiyu raised his hand to signal everyone to stop.

“The deepest part of the wild hillside is just ahead. We can’t go in at night,” he said in a low voice. “The terrain there is complicated, there are too many poisonous creatures, and visibility is poor. If we step into a trap or disturb the animals, the consequences will be unimaginable. Let’s rest here for a while tonight.”

Everyone rested where they were and found places to sit down.

Although the atmosphere had relaxed somewhat, no one was truly letting their guard down.

The little bear sat obediently beside Su Qingzhi, its fluffy head tilted to the side, its round eyes gazing at her.

Su Qingzhi couldn't help but smile as she looked at its adorable appearance.

He then took out a small silver-rimmed bowl from his storage bag, carefully poured in about half a bowl of spiritual spring water, and handed it over.

The little guy seems to have become a bit smarter after drinking too much of the spiritual spring water.

Not only are they more agile, but their reactions are also much faster than before.

Now he can understand basic instructions, such as "sit down," "come here," and "don't move."

This is the boundary between the middle section and the depths of the wild hillside.

The terrain began to steepen, the vegetation grew denser, and the soil underfoot became more moist and sticky.

Further in, the forest became so dense that even sunlight couldn't penetrate.

The towering ancient trees are layered upon each other, their branches and leaves intertwined like a dome covering the sky.

Su Qingzhi had heard Xiao Heizi say that there were all kinds of wild beasts inside, including some legendary ferocious creatures.

Hearing these words, Su Qingzhi's heart raced and her blood pulsed.

It wasn't that I was scared, but rather that I felt a novel and exciting sensation.

She then realized that this was how life was lived in places she couldn't see.

There are no rules, no order, only instinct, plunder, and survival.

Shen Zhiyu whispered a reminder to her, his voice almost touching her ear.

"If you encounter a danger you can't handle, even if it exposes that space, your priority is to escape. Survival is the most important thing; everything else is secondary."

Su Qingzhi nodded in agreement and gripped the storage bracelet on her wrist.

"I see."

When it comes to saving her life, she never hesitates.

Neither hidden secrets nor precious resources are as important as one's own life.

In the middle of the night, all was quiet; even the chirping of insects had disappeared.

Su Qingzhi was suddenly shaken awake.

She almost cried out in fright when she opened her eyes.

A bear's face was almost touching her nose.

Its dark eyes stared straight at her, its nostrils emitting scalding breath, and a foul stench assaulted her senses.

At that moment, her blood almost froze.

Just when she thought she was about to be bitten, her rationality quickly returned.

She suddenly realized that something was wrong with her surroundings.

All around was a white fog.

The fog doesn't fall from the sky; it rises from the ground.

She could even smell a foul, rotten odor.

An unsettling chill hung in the air.

She immediately sat up, her heart pounding, and looked to her side.

They could only vaguely see the shadows of Shen Zhiyu and the others.

She reached out to touch it, but found that although it was not far away, she could not reach it no matter what she did.

"Little Bear, go and wake them up."

Su Qingzhi pointed to where Xiao Heizi and the others were lying and said.

She couldn't move around rashly, for fear of losing her way in the eerie fog, and even more so for fear of disturbing something that shouldn't exist.

She walked over to Shen Zhiyu and whispered, "A-Shuo, wake up."

But Chen Zhiyu's brows were furrowed, fine beads of cold sweat appeared on his forehead, his lips were chapped, and he kept muttering some indistinct words.

Su Qingzhi immediately realized that the fog was probably poisonous.

She quickly took out a bottle of spiritual spring water from her storage ring, her fingers trembling slightly as she uncorked the bottle. With one hand she lifted Shen Zhiyu's head, and with the other hand she carefully fed him the water into his mouth.

"Niannian, don't leave me..."

Just after feeding him water, Shen Zhiyu suddenly blurted out this sentence.

Then he opened his eyes, his pupils initially dilated, then quickly focused.

But when he realized that the person in front of him was Su Qingzhi, his tense shoulders slowly relaxed.

"Niannian? What's wrong? What happened?"

Su Qingzhi didn't ask him what he said in his dream, she just shook her head gently.

After a moment of silence, he slowly raised his hand and pointed to the thick, grayish-white mist all around him.

Upon seeing this, Shen Zhiyu immediately stood up.

He quickly grabbed Su Qingzhi's wrist and said in a low voice, "Let's get out of here first, something's wrong with this fog."

After saying that, he grabbed her and, relying on his memory, made his way towards the direction where Xiao Heizi and the others had originally been.

It has only been a minute or two since Su Qingzhi woke up, a very short time.

But the surrounding environment has completely changed.

They couldn't find anyone else anywhere; there wasn't even a sound.

I can only rely on my memory to move in the same direction as before.

The soil beneath my feet was soft and damp, and the surroundings were eerily quiet, with only the low murmur of the wind whistling through the fog.

After walking a few steps, Su Qingzhi's hand suddenly touched something furry and warm, and the wet touch made her stiffen.

Just then, she heard a familiar whimper, childish and sticky.

She breathed a sigh of relief, her heart slowly calming down. She quickly released her grip and called out softly, "Little Bear? Is that you? What are you doing here? Where are they?"

The little bear grunted and whimpered, its tail swaying slightly.

But it quickly turned around and gently nudged Su Qingzhi's leg with its head, signaling her to follow.

Then he jogged ahead with her.
