She reached into her pocket, her fingertips lightly touching the familiar soft paper package inside the coarse cloth pocket.
Her fingers paused slightly, then deftly flicked them, and two round, plump White Rabbit milk candies quietly slipped into her palm, as if hiding a little secret.
She placed it in Shen Jinhe's hand, her movements so gentle it was as if she were afraid of disturbing the wind: "Eat it."
Shen Jinhe's eyes lit up, like stars suddenly illuminating the night sky.
She looked down at the candies in her palm. The two candies were round and plump, with pink little rabbits printed on the wrappers. The sunlight shone down, making the paper sparkle, almost piercing her eyes.
But she didn't move. Instead, she subconsciously pushed the candy back, her tone earnest yet tinged with concern: "Sister-in-law, you should keep it. You're pregnant, you need to eat more. Candy is sweet, it's good for your health."
"I still have some."
Su Qingzhi squeezed her hand; her palm was warm, and the pressure was just right, as if she were comforting her, or perhaps giving her a word of advice.
"There are still some?"
Shen Jinhe was taken aback, blinked, and asked in a voice that was a mixture of surprise and doubt, "Then where did you hide it?"
"Um."
Su Qingzhi smiled and nodded, a gentle curve forming at the corners of her lips, her eyes brimming with amusement. "Would I lie to you?"
Then she stopped pushing it.
The unease in my heart instantly turned into a warm current.
Her sister-in-law felt sorry for her; this gesture was sweeter than candy.
If she insists on refusing again, it will seem distant, hurt her feelings, and betray that kind of consideration.
She carefully gripped the candy, her knuckles slightly clenched, as if afraid of accidentally wrinkling the candy wrapper.
The sweetness seemed to start from the fingertips, climb up the blood vessels little by little, and warm the heart, making even breathing softer.
