Chapter 45 The Smell of Gunpowder

"mom!"

Shen Cunpu shouted angrily, his eyes almost spitting fire.

He abruptly shook off her arm, with such force that she almost fell over.

"Are you crazy? You're kidding me! Joining the army isn't a game! It involves identity verification and accessing personal files! Only the individual can handle it in person; no one can do it for you, and no one can substitute for you!"

He spoke these words almost through gritted teeth.

"No, I'm in charge! I already submitted your brother's name! The approval document has been stamped with the official seal and issued! If Zhiyu can't go, then you shouldn't even dream about it!"

He roared in response.

Startled by his thunderous roar, he trembled and staggered back half a step.

This was the first time in her life she had ever seen Shen Cunpu so enraged.

In the past, no matter how much she lost her temper with him or how much she exploited him, he had never reacted like this.

Now, judging from his frighteningly pale face and his gritted teeth, there's no way to back down from this situation.

After the road was blocked, his eyes were vacant and his face was deathly pale.

Her legs went weak, and she collapsed to the ground with a thud.

She then began pounding the ground with her hands, crying so hard she could barely breathe, her voice shrill and affected.

"Oh God, what sins have I committed! I can't live like this anymore! All my money is gone! All my hope is gone... God, why don't you open your eyes and see! Just let me die! I can't go on living..."

"Mom, be careful, a lightning bolt might strike."

Su Qingzhi gave a cold snort.

A hint of undisguised contempt played on the corners of her mouth, and she felt a deep disgust for him!

And her insincere, fake cries, as if she were deliberately trying to gain sympathy, gave Su Qingzhi a terrible headache.

She ignored the sobbing on the ground, turned around, reached out a hand, and firmly grasped Shen Cunpu's hand.

"Let's go, let's not linger here any longer. We need to hurry and ask when we can leave, and what we need to bring, so we can be prepared."

"good."

Shen Cunpu responded softly.

He looked up and glanced at Su Qingzhi.

There was not a trace of hesitation or perfunctoriness in those eyes.

She was the only one who truly understood him and supported him the most.

Among the noisy crowd, some advised him to think it over, some called him a fool, and some even scoffed at his decision.

But Su Qingzhi didn't say anything, she just looked at him silently.

She was the only one he could rely on.

This was the first time he felt confident amidst the chaos and noise.

It felt as real as stepping on the soil, as clear as the wind blowing across my face.

He no longer glanced at the person standing to the side, crying dramatically but without shedding a single tear; his heart was no longer filled with any lingering attachment or entanglement.

He followed Su Qingzhi out of the wooden door in the courtyard, where the paint had already peeled off.

From now on, he will never look back at that dilapidated little courtyard again.

The road leading to the town was uneven, with gravel underfoot, and one could easily twist their ankle if they were not careful.

But the air was filled with the scent of sun-dried earth.

And there's the faint scent of grass from the distant fields.

They walked shoulder to shoulder, step by step, toward the bright sunshine.

Soon, they arrived at the recruitment office.

Several young applicants were standing at the office door, excitedly discussing something.

After they entered the room, the staff member was very friendly, with a smile on his face, and greeted them warmly. He also carefully told them what items to bring and the specific time to depart.

The conscription departure date was finally set for the eleventh of next month.

On the return journey, Shen Cunpu's steps were noticeably lighter than when he went there.

But looking at Su Qingzhi walking beside him, he felt a pang of reluctance.

The two walked side by side on a country road.

The sunlight felt warm on my skin, yet slightly scorching.

He finally spoke, saying, "I have to leave after my second brother's wedding."

"You know Mom's temper; I'm afraid you'll suffer."

Shen Cunpu knew exactly what kind of person he was.

She has a sharp tongue, a narrow mind, and is very calculating.

How could he feel at ease leaving his newlywed wife alone at home after he left?

Although his enlistment was a done deal, he still couldn't let it go.

How could Su Qingzhi not understand?

She looked up at him with gentle eyes.

She then took the initiative to place her small hands into Shen Cunpu's broad and warm palms.

He held her hand firmly in his grasp.

"Don't worry, just go about your business. I'll take care of myself. I won't suffer any losses."

A moment later, he looked down at her, a slight smile playing on his lips.

He suddenly realized that this departure was not only for his future and dreams, but also for a better future.

That future with her.

The road ahead has been paved, and the future path is unfolding before his eyes.

Despite his young age, he possesses remarkable perseverance and courage.

With his ability and hard work.

Given time, he will surely be able to carve out his own niche.

Time flies by.

The arrival of the eighth day of the Lunar New Year brought a unique liveliness and anticipation to the village.

At midday in summer, the sun blazes fiercely.

The sun shone down relentlessly, and waves of heat washed over us.

The old almanac clearly stated: "It is advisable to move graves and break ground, but not suitable for marriage."
