Chapter 49 The Old Fool

This morning, when my sister was being taken back to her parents' home in tears, he was still fast asleep in bed, completely unaware of anything.

It wasn't until the neighbor saw how serious the situation had become that he came to knock on the door and tell him.

"Your mom and sister are at the Shen family's house, arguing with that mean-spirited guy. Why don't you go check on them!"

He then quickly rolled over and got up.

In such a panic, I didn't even have time to put on my shoes properly.

He rushed out of the house in a hurry.

The result was exactly as he expected.

When he rushed into the Shen family's courtyard, the first thing he saw was a man standing in the middle, pointing and yelling at his mother and sister.

Upon seeing this scene, Liu Xincheng felt his blood boil.

"You old bastard, how dare you bully my sister?"

He was furious, and his voice suddenly exploded in the courtyard.

No sooner had he finished speaking than he rolled up his sleeves, glared at her, and charged straight at her with wide, angry eyes.

He lowered his head, bent over, and charged forward without hesitation.

...

"This should be surnamed Shen, you two shouldn't always try to take advantage of me."

The words were laced with sarcasm as soon as they were uttered.

He was having a heated argument with Chen Chunxiang.

She stood with her hands on her hips, glared, and retorted with a series of sharp, twitching sounds.

The two exchanged barbs, each word dripping with sarcasm.

But things took an unexpected turn, and suddenly everything went black.

It turned out that Liu Xincheng had rushed over from the side and accidentally bumped into him head-on.

She was knocked off her balance and fell heavily to the ground.

Immediately afterwards, she rolled over backwards, her movements extremely awkward.

Normally, there's nothing special about this muddy ground, and even if you slip and fall, it's not a big deal.

At most, you'll get a minor scrape and a little pain, but rubbing it will make it fine.

Unfortunately, on this particular day, he had bad luck and arrived home cursing as he backed away, continuing to shout incessantly.

As a result, the back of his head slammed into the stone mill in the yard with a "bang".

"oops!"

She screamed in pain and almost instinctively reached up to touch the back of her head.

Looking at my palm again, it was covered in blood, a shocking sight.

She was terrified, trembling all over, and stammered, "Blood...blood..."

Before she could finish speaking, she rolled her eyes.

He collapsed limply to the ground and passed out.

The courtyard, which had been bustling just moments before, suddenly fell completely silent.

Shen Zhiyu was completely terrified by this sudden situation. He rushed over, hugged her tightly, and shouted repeatedly.

"Mom! Mom! Wake up! Wake up!"

Chen Chunxiang and Liu Yuelan, standing to the side, exchanged bewildered glances, their faces turning pale.

Liu Xincheng stood there dumbfounded, not knowing what to do with his hands and feet.

Only Su Qingzhi managed to maintain a semblance of clarity amidst the chaos.

Seeing this, she urgently reminded them, "What are you standing there for? Get him to the hospital right now! Hurry!"

But the hospital is located in the town, quite a distance from here.

The mountain roads are rugged and the journey is long.

Without thinking twice, Shen Zhiyu quickly carried his mother's heavy body on his back.

He ran all the way to the only clinic in the village, not even having time to wipe the sweat from his face.

When they rushed into the clinic, the barefoot doctor, who was over fifty years old, glanced at the wound on the back of the head, and his brows immediately furrowed.

He quickly shook his head and waved his hands.

"This injury is too serious; even stitches aren't enough. This needs to be taken to the hospital immediately, or it will become a major problem!"

Just then, an old tractor slowly drove by from the side of the road.

Upon seeing this, Shen Zhiyu immediately ran over.

He stood in the middle of the road, waving and shouting, trying to stop the car.

His eyes were red with anxiety, and he cried out in a hoarse voice, "Master, Master! Please help me, it's a matter of life and death!"

No matter what he said, the driver refused to agree, shaking his head like a rattle-drum, repeating the same thing over and over.

"No, no, she's so badly injured. If something happens to her on the way, I can't take the responsibility. Please don't make things difficult for me."

He leaned against the steering wheel, his face full of difficulty.

"Comrade, please do us a favor and give us a ride."

Seeing this, Su Qingzhi also came up to speak in her defense.

Standing behind Shen Zhiyu, looking at his pale face and cracked lips, she felt as if something was pressing down on her heart, making it hard to breathe.

Ultimately, she simply couldn't bear to watch someone die right in front of her.

Even if this person is the one she hates the most.

She's not a saint, but she's not so ruthless as to stand by and do nothing.

"You seem like a very honest person, someone who understands reason."

After listening to Su Chenwei's words, the driver seemed to be somewhat moved by them, and nodded at her.

"Alright, I'll do it for your sake, you two can come up together. But..."

He paused for a moment, then added seriously.

"If anything happens to the old lady later... it's not my problem."

"Don't worry, comrade, we won't cause you any trouble! Thank you!"

Before the driver could finish speaking, Su Chenwei quickly thanked him with a smile.

The tractor roared off.

The dilapidated car body made a creaking sound.

The tractor bumped along the rough, uneven country road.

Sitting on it, Su Chenwei felt her stomach churn from being jostled around so much.

She leaned against the side of the vehicle, her gaze drifting towards Zhang Cuihua lying in the tractor.
