Chapter 56 Envy

As he walked into the house, he kicked the door shut with a loud bang.

Then, with a large stride, he walked to the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed) and promptly threw her onto it.

He grinned and spoke in a teasing tone.

"Is today the day tigers sleep? You really think I'm easy to bully? I haven't done anything yet."

"Come on, I want to see how you plan to deal with me."

As he finished speaking, the smile in his eyes deepened.

This was the day Shen Cunpu was supposed to go to town to officially report for duty.

He should have set off much earlier this morning.

But from the moment I opened my eyes, my heart was stirred up by her.

At this point, Su Chenwei suddenly realized that she seemed to have gone too far with her joke, and the situation seemed to be getting out of control.

Her expression changed slightly, and she quickly changed her tune, pleading with a hint of panic, "I... I was just joking with you, I didn't mean anything by it."

As she spoke, she tried to find an excuse to escape.

"Hey, you're a guy, so take your clothes off if you want. It's not my problem if other people see it."

"Uh, right, should I go cook? I'll head out now."

After saying that, she tried to quickly roll off the kang (a heated brick bed) from the side.

But as soon as her foot touched the ground, a hand grabbed her firmly.

Shen Cunpu acted decisively, pulling her back into his arms.

He chuckled softly and whispered in her ear.

"I was careless this morning. I didn't consider that my second son just got married. It was really inappropriate for me to be shirtless. You're right to criticize me. I won't do it again."

His voice was deep and gentle: "It's still early, there's no rush to cook. Feed me first, be good..."

An ambiguous atmosphere began to fill the air.

This time, Su Chenwei was able to hold on, biting her lip tightly.

But below, she was gradually becoming unable to bear the atmosphere.

He could only grit his teeth and sigh inwardly, feeling that he was really unlucky.

Why did I provoke this burly man for no reason?

She had been tormented by him for a long time last night and hadn't recovered yet.

My body was still very sore, but then another round of pain came.

If she hadn't been unable to hold on any longer, he probably would have continued.

Fortunately, Shen Cunpu knew when to stop this time.

He glanced at the clock on the table.

Realizing it was getting late, he decisively stopped and let her go.

You must report to the military base at 8:00 AM sharp; being late is not a good sign.

Especially on the first day of enlistment, it is even more important to leave a good impression on your superiors.

Su Chenwei stood up, her legs still feeling a little numb and weak.

However, she gritted her teeth, mustered her spirits, straightened her clothes, and tidied her slightly messy hair.

The two left home at exactly 7:30.

Daylight had broken, and sunlight streamed through the morning mist.

The old locust tree at the village entrance leans its neck crooked, its branches swaying gently in the wind.

Su Chenwei originally planned to send Shen Cunpu to town to settle him down, and then take a car back to the village.

But Shen Cunpu stopped her on the road.

"Don't bother seeing me off. You'll have to come back alone later, it'll be too tiring."

Shen Cunpu put on his newly bought training uniform, stood there with his chest out and head held high.

He carried a small bundle on his shoulder; it wasn't big, but it was very heavy, making his shoulder sag slightly.

The bundle contained a few clothes he would need for his trip, as well as a stack of pancakes made by Su Chenwei.

In addition, there were some daily necessities, all of which were carefully wrapped up, leaving no trace.

Seeing his insistence, Su Chenwei didn't say anything more and could only nod and reach out to straighten his slightly crooked collar.

"Alright then, when you get to town, train hard and remember to eat on time. Your health is the most important thing."

"Um."

Shen Cunpu responded softly.

He gently squeezed Su Chenwei's slightly cold fingers with his large hand.

She has lost a lot of weight, and her once round cheeks are now somewhat sunken.

He felt uneasy, but he also knew that this departure was for their future.

If it weren't for wanting a better future, he really wouldn't have been willing to leave, wouldn't have been willing to leave her alone.

Those warm, slightly rough hands tightly enveloped her fingertips.

She understood his worries and his determination.

But now, the only way to truly change one's life is to join the army.

This is a rare opportunity; once missed, it will never come again.

The morning fog had not completely dissipated.

The two stood at the village entrance, their eyes meeting, both reluctant to part, but neither said anything more.

They could only keep these feelings to themselves and wait for the day they would reunite.

Finally, Shen Cunpu spoke first.

"Don't worry about things at home."

He paused, then looked at her with a more complicated expression. "Don't argue with Mom. If she acts up, just stay away from her."

Actually, he was full of worries.

They both knew that what "she" was bearing alone was not only family matters, but also various pressures and criticisms from the outside world.

But he also understood that now was not the time for a long talk.

Upon hearing this, Su Chenwei forced a smile.

She simply raised her hand slightly and waved at him.

"Let's go, don't delay our business."

Just then, a minibus slowly drove up on the dirt road in the distance.

The car body looked a bit old, and the tires kicked up a cloud of dust as they rolled over the ground.

Shen Cunpu, carrying a bulging bundle on his back, walked step by step onto the carriage.

The movements were decisive, but there was a hint of reluctance to leave in the steps.
