He fell heavily to the ground, his forehead hitting the edge of the stone steps, making him wince in pain.
Dust flew everywhere, clothes were covered in mud, and they looked utterly disheveled.
"Ouch! Who's there? Who's pulling me!"
He rubbed his sore forehead and angrily turned around to question him.
Shen Zhiyu grimaced as he got up, not even bothering to brush the dust off his clothes.
When I looked up, I met Liu Xincheng's cold eyes.
Liu Xincheng stood in the shadows at the corner of the wall, his posture upright, arms crossed, his eyes devoid of any warmth.
"Hey, brother-in-law, trying to sneak into my house in broad daylight instead of using the front door?"
Liu Xincheng sneered.
"Or do you have ulterior motives?"
"Hey, Xincheng, listen to me, your sister..."
Shen Zhiyu quickly waved his hand, forcing an awkward smile onto his face.
He was sweating profusely, stammering, wanting to explain but not knowing where to begin.
Liu Xincheng's eyes seemed to see right through his deepest schemes.
Before he could finish speaking, the courtyard gate creaked open slowly from the inside.
The sound was like old wood, worn smooth by the passage of time.
Liu Yuelan walked out from behind the door with a smug smile on her face.
She was wearing a light pink floral print blouse.
Upon looking over the wall, one could see two people staring at each other, the atmosphere tense as if a conflict could erupt at any moment.
She immediately raised an eyebrow, waved to Shen Zhiyu, and called out in a light tone, "Let's go home."
Shen Zhiyu's mind went blank for a moment, and he stood there stunned.
He subconsciously looked at Liu Yuelan, his eyes filled with shock and confusion.
Look at her smug expression, the corners of her mouth couldn't help but turn up, and her eyes were gleaming with cunning.
The money must have been obtained.
The problem was that Liu Xincheng was standing to the side, looking serious.
He could only purse his lips, suppress the doubts and unease churning in his heart, and silently follow Liu Yuelan's footsteps.
After walking quite a distance, turning the corner, and confirming that no one was around, even the wind had quieted down.
He turned his head slightly and asked in a low voice, "Lan Yin, that money... did you really get it?"
"Otherwise what?"
Liu Yuelan stopped and turned to look at him.
"Shen Zhiyu, I'm not kidding you. From now on, listen to me, and you won't go wrong."
She spoke each word clearly and firmly.
"I guarantee that sooner or later you will become a super-rich man that everyone envies."
She straightened her back and her eyes burned as she said this.
Shen Zhiyu got goosebumps listening to this, and the hairs on his arms stood on end.
He wasn't moved by those words.
Instead, they found it absurd and laughable, and felt a tightness in their chest.
He felt that Liu Yuelan had completely gone mad this time.
But the money was already hers; it was all in black and white, the transaction was complete, and she had already taken it.
Even if he was unhappy or thought it was absurd, he could only swallow his words and keep them to himself.
Liu Yuelan ran back to the Shen family in a flash.
Her cheeks were slightly flushed, and her breathing was rapid.
With a snap, she slapped two thick stacks of banknotes in front of Su Qingzhi.
"Sister-in-law, there's no need to wait until tomorrow. Here's two thousand. Count it yourself."
Her tone was firm, and her eyes shone with an astonishing brightness.
"It's a deal, I'll buy that ring from your hand for two thousand, no backing out!"
As if afraid the other party would change their mind, they emphasized the words "no reneging on the debt" very heavily.
Su Qingzhi slowly raised her left hand, and the ring flashed in the sunlight.
The jade cabochon had a warm, green glow, while the red stone set in the center resembled a drop of congealed blood.
A slight smile played on her lips as her gaze fell upon Liu Yuelan's face.
"You really intend to spend two thousand to buy it?"
She paused, her gaze sharpening slightly, and confirmed again.
"No regrets?"
Liu Yuelan stared intently at the jade ring inlaid with red stones.
Her eyes were so intense they seemed to be burning.
She nodded vigorously.
"Yes! Sister-in-law, I absolutely must have this ring, please sell it to me."
Shen Zhiyu had just pushed the door open and hadn't even stood still when he heard those words.
His heart skipped a beat, and his expression changed instantly.
Without even thinking, he immediately objected: "No way!"
Liu Yuelan glared at him fiercely, her eyes filled with anger.
"You didn't pay for it, so who do you think you are to talk here? Who do you think you are!"
"That's not what I meant, Lan Yin, please don't get agitated."
Shen Zhiyu quickly waved his hand, softening his tone as he tried to explain.
"This is a terrible deal. Two thousand yuan for a plain-looking jade ring is not worth the price at all. If you really like jade, I'll take you to pick one out. They have clearly marked prices, are cheap and beautiful, and have many styles. Why waste your money like this?"
"Shut up! I don't want to hear your rambling!"
Liu Yuelan abruptly interrupted him with a sharp, shrill voice.
"I only want hers! I don't want any of anyone else's, I only want the one Su Qingzhi has! Stop pointing fingers here!"
"..."
Shen Zhiyu opened his mouth, but ultimately said nothing more, only frowning and standing silently in place.
The young couple started arguing.
They argued back and forth, their faces turning red with rage.
The atmosphere instantly became tense and hostile.
Su Qingzhi tapped the table, making a soft "thump" sound.
"Alright, stop messing around. Even the best of relationships can't withstand this kind of turmoil. Do you want it or not? Think it through. You asked me to buy it, I didn't force it on you. Don't regret it in a couple of days and come crying to get your money back. There's no way you'll get your money back then."
"Won't!"
Liu Yuelan immediately answered, her voice firm and decisive.
