Fang Mingyu, wearing a soaking wet raincoat, pushed open the courtyard gate.
"Mingyu!"
Upon hearing the noise, Liu Yuelan immediately jumped out of bed.
"You're finally back!"
"Am I right? Such huge hailstones, pounding down, must have completely destroyed the wheat seedlings in the field, right? Now you believe me?"
Fang Mingyu ignored her emotions and stared intently at her.
"How did you know it would hail? Who told you the weather was going to change last night? The village weather station didn't even issue a forecast!"
Liu Yuelan met his gaze without fear.
"I'm smart, I was born with this ability. You don't believe me? Then let me tell you something else: the water is going to rise in three days, so you need to repair the drainage ditches in advance."
Fang Mingyu's face darkened.
"Stop joking around, get serious. It's the middle of the night, stop spouting nonsense."
"All right."
Seeing that he didn't believe her, she moved closer.
"I'll tell you a secret: I can know what's to come. I'm not guessing, I can actually see it. Last night I dreamt of hailstorms that left the wheat fields in ruins, which is why I'm telling you this in advance."
Fang Mingyu's palm tightened.
He really wanted to slap her awake and tell her to stop talking nonsense.
But he held back, and only asked calmly, "Really? Then calculate my future. What am I thinking now, and what will the future hold?"
Liu Yuelan grinned.
"You'll have several children in the future, all obedient and sensible. The eldest can recite poems, and the youngest can cook. You'll first become a regimental commander, and later a division commander. I'll become the division commander's wife, and people will salute me when I go out. I won't even have to queue to buy groceries. We'll be happy together for the rest of our lives, grow old together, and have a house full of children and grandchildren."
Fang Mingyu rolled his eyes at the sound of it.
He snorted coldly and turned to leave.
Seeing that he didn't believe her, Liu Yuelan got anxious and grabbed his sleeve.
"You have to believe me! Didn't I just say it was a hailstorm? I'm not kidding, it's true! If you don't believe me, go to the fields now and see if all the wheat seedlings are ruined."
Fang Mingyu nodded.
"It did hail; the whole village heard the noise. But you're not entirely right; not all the wheat seedlings died."
He paused, then gave her a complicated look.
"The hail yesterday was severe and did damage some crops; the leaves were torn apart, but the roots are still intact. The old farmer said that as long as it's sunny for the next two days, they can recover."
However, Captain Zhang and Shen Cunpu had already made arrangements.
Because we took precautions in advance, the losses were much smaller.
"Impossible! It's clearly a book..."
Liu Yuelan almost blurted it out, then quickly bit her tongue.
But to her utter surprise, Captain Zhang had taken precautions in advance, thus preventing the tragic scene that was supposed to unfold.
Her plan failed, and she felt as if she had been hit in the chest with a heavy hammer.
Seeing Fang Mingyu looking at her with a puzzled expression, Liu Yuelan immediately changed her words.
"Oh dear, what I mean is, nobody's going to survive this time."
Fang Mingyu was too lazy to waste words with him and went straight to the matter of Captain Zhang sending people into the village yesterday.
"Yesterday at noon, three military green jeeps from the regiment arrived, and several officers in military uniforms went into the village and went door to door to inform everyone to prepare straw mats and straw to cover the wheat fields."
"They even personally directed the work, setting up hail-proof ropes at the edge of the field, saying it was to prevent the weather from changing."
Upon hearing this, Liu Yuelan's eyes widened in surprise.
That scene wasn't described at all in that book!
Captain Zhang should have known nothing, and the villagers should have been crying and wailing after the hailstorm, which would have matched the trajectory she had predicted.
But now everything is in chaos.
There is only one explanation...
"As expected... it really is him."
Her heart was in turmoil.
Shen Cunpu, the man she personally sent to the guillotine, has actually returned.
"Who? Who are you talking about?"
Fang Mingyu immediately sensed something was wrong and pressed for details.
Liu Yuelan suddenly snapped out of her daze and immediately shook her head.
"It's nothing, I was just talking nonsense, don't take it seriously."
"How would I know anything about what you're talking about? Maybe it was foreseen from above."
How could Fang Mingyu possibly believe that?
But he didn't press the matter further.
He knew that pressing her too hard at this point would only shut her up.
He pondered the word "book" she had just blurted out, and a direction began to form in his mind.
She must have hidden something, perhaps a notebook, or perhaps a book of prophecies.
As long as you find her weakness, you can always get her to hand it over willingly.
I suddenly remembered a phrase his father often said: "A woman's softest spot is her child."
If she could truly foresee the future, she would be an inexhaustible gold mine.
If it's a lie, having a child will keep her in check, making her behave and stop causing trouble.
Once the baby was born, she had no energy left to play any tricks.
Thinking of this, he smiled and reached out to pull Liu Yuelan into his arms.
"Honey, let's have a baby."
"Haven't you always wanted to be a mother? Now that things are getting better, it's the perfect time."
Liu Yuelan was stunned.
She looked up at him and saw a warm smile in his eyes, but the smile didn't really reach his eyes.
She felt a chill run down her spine; this was definitely not a fleeting moment of tenderness.
But she didn't refuse.
Because she also had her own plans: the child was also a rope to bind Fang Mingyu.
Once she's carrying his child, he can no longer take his anger out on her or easily divorce her.
Shen Cunpu gave a brief account of the situation outside.
“I went with Captain Zhang to three communes and got five hundred straw mats and two hundred bundles of straw.”
"The army also sent people to help the villagers cover the ground. They worked quickly and finished covering it all two hours before the hailstorm."
