He hurried along, heading straight for the few solitary mud houses on the back hill of the village.

No one noticed when Su Qingzhi quietly disappeared.

In fact, she had quietly made her way to the edge of the three mud houses before Xie Rui left.

When she saw Xie Rui running back, looking travel-worn.

He had just come out from behind the pile of firewood.

Upon seeing her, Xie Rui immediately asked anxiously, "It's you? Did your uncle send you? What happened to my mother?"

He had never seen Su Qingzhi before and her face was completely unfamiliar to him.

"Um."

Su Qingzhi nodded gently, her expression calm. "My uncle said that you had been thinking about this, so he asked me to come and see you."

"That's great, thank you so much."

Xie Rui breathed a sigh of relief, and a look of comfort finally appeared on his face.

The wooden door creaked open slowly.

As Su Qingzhi walked in, she was immediately greeted by a strong smell of herbs mixed with the scent of damp earth.

A middle-aged woman was lying on the kang (a heated brick bed), so thin that she was almost just a skeleton.

Hearing footsteps coming from the doorway, her eyelids twitched slightly.

"Ahem... Xiao Rui? Why are you back so soon?"

Xie Rui immediately strode forward.

"Mom, don't move, don't get up. I'm back now."

He raised his voice slightly, "This Sister Su is here to examine you. Don't refuse, listen to what she has to say."

Su Manqing turned her head slightly, her gaze falling on Su Qingzhi.

"My body...cough...I know it...it's been useless for a long time..."

"No need to look, it's a waste of money on medicine... not worth it."

Su Qingzhi stood aside, quietly observing her gaze.

She could tell that this woman had given up on herself.

"Please go out for a moment, I need to speak with Auntie alone for a couple of minutes."
