Glasses nodded, silently took out a support frame from his backpack, and began skillfully setting up the tent.
Little Blackie clapped his hands and grinned, "I'm going to gather some firewood!"
"I'll go too! There must be a lot of dead branches in this woods."
The two quickly disappeared into the shadows of the trees, leaving only the soft sound of crunching fallen leaves underfoot.
Su Qingzhi looked around at the deep woods and felt that something was wrong, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it.
She turned to Shen Zhiyu and suggested softly, "Let me walk around with you and see if there's anything unusual about our surroundings."
Shen Zhiyu nodded in agreement and gripped the dagger tucked at his waist.
The two walked slowly along the perimeter of the camp, their feet resting on a soft layer of fallen leaves.
As they walked, they kept an eye on their surroundings.
But apart from that, nothing was found.
No one flashed by, and no suspicious noises were heard.
After confirming that there was nothing unusual, Su Qingzhi quietly reached into her bosom and took out some food from the spatial bag she carried with her.
She quickly stuffed several neatly packaged pieces of bread and dried meat into Shen Zhiyu's hand.
"Have something to eat first, then we'll have our main meal later."
Shen Zhiyu did not refuse and nodded as he accepted the food.
Then, the two of them poured a little water from their kettles and took a small sip.
The water was sweet and refreshing, and as it slid down my throat, it instantly invigorated me.
"When we get back, we'll give them these breads and jerky."
As Su Qingzhi spoke, she took out another package of bread carefully wrapped in oil paper from her spatial storage.
"OK."
Shen Zhiyu replied.
After he finished speaking, he put the food into his backpack, zipped it up, and then turned and walked towards the camp.
Su Qingzhi followed closely behind, walking slowly so as not to disturb the creatures in the forest.
At that very moment.
A crisp "crack" suddenly rang out.
Evening is usually quiet, even the wind seems to have stopped, with only a few autumn insects chirping softly among the grass.
The two immediately stopped, their bodies sinking slightly, but they remained silent.
Their gazes turned to the direction from which the sound came almost simultaneously.
Ahead was a dense thicket of bushes.
Behind them were several thick old trees, their branches intertwined, blocking most of the view.
But all around were trees, one after another, their branches twisted and intertwined.
The bark was mottled and cracked, covered with moss and vines, making it impossible to tell if anything was hidden inside.
If there were people or wild animals hiding inside, it would indeed be very difficult to detect them with the naked eye.
They both understood what the other meant.
So they started walking again and continued forward.
However, just a few seconds later, a slight noise came from behind again, this time closer than before.
This time, the two of them still didn't turn back.
But their muscles were already tense, their fingers quietly approaching their weapons, and their backs slightly arched.
Then came a rustling, grinding sound.
The strangest thing is that the other party no longer seems to be deliberately hiding their whereabouts.
The atmosphere suddenly became heavy.
The air seemed to freeze, and even breathing became a cautious exercise.
Finally, they were less than five meters behind them.
The two turned around simultaneously, their movements swift and precise, as if they had practiced a thousand times in perfect unison!
Su Qingzhi's eyes widened instantly, her pupils contracted, and she blurted out:
"What is this thing?"
Brown bear.
Shen Zhiyu's Adam's apple bobbed, and he swallowed hard, his tone grave.
Right there in the open space where they had just rested, a dark figure was squatting.
The creature was furry with short, thick limbs, and it was intently licking a dew-covered leaf with its tongue.
Noticing the two suddenly turn around, the little bear trembled in fright and shrank back abruptly.
It clung tightly to the leaf with its two front paws, its round eyes wide open.
"This is mine! Nobody is allowed to take it!"
"It looks like a little cub."
Su Qingzhi breathed a slight sigh of relief, her shoulders relaxed a bit, but she still dared not let her guard down.
She analyzed in a low voice: "An adult brown bear standing up must be over 1.8 meters tall and strong enough to overturn a jeep. But this one only reaches our knees when sitting, and even when standing up, it is probably less than 1.2 meters tall. It is obviously a cub."
"Brown bears are only known to be active deep in the wild hillsides, so how did a cub end up in such an outlying area?"
Shen Zhiyu frowned, his gaze sweeping back and forth across the surrounding woods.
"Moreover... it's unusual that it's all alone, without a mother bear guarding it."
The little bear remained squatting on the ground, staring blankly at the two of them with a dazed and unfocused look.
Looking at its helpless appearance, Su Qingzhi felt a pang of pity welling up in her heart.
But she quickly suppressed her emotions and calmly reminded him in a low voice.
"They're probably lost, or they've been separated from their group for some reason."
She paused, then added, "Let's hurry back. What if its real parents come looking for us...? Then we won't have a choice between fighting it or running away."
Shen Zhiyu nodded and smiled, "You're right, let's go."
The two ignored it and turned to walk towards the camp.
They had only walked less than ten meters when the sight before them made them stop in their tracks.
The little bear also stood up and followed them with clumsy little steps, keeping a distance of about five meters, trailing behind without missing a step.
Su Qingzhi: "..."
She stood there, her brows slightly furrowed, staring at the furry figure with a complicated expression, before slowly turning her head to look at Shen Zhiyu.
