Chapter 69
An unknown amount of time had passed. Yin Mu was pondering how to modify a short plot when there was a knock on the door. She answered without even looking up, "Come in."
Zhong Mengyuan pushed the door open and walked in, sitting down beside the bed.
Yin Mu waited for a while but she didn't speak. He turned around and saw her staring at him with her chin in her hand, wondering what she was thinking.
"What's wrong with you? Why are you just looking at me and not saying anything?"
Zhong Mengyuan shook his head: "No, I just wanted to come and see you."
"It's not like I haven't seen it before." Yin Mu said with a smile, then turned to look at the computer screen and asked, "Have you finished watching the variety show?"
"Yeah, I've finished reading it."
"How about it?"
"What can we do? Aren't we all here?" Zhong Mengyuan said unenthusiastically, "I checked Weibo and saw a few topics being discussed, but they weren't very popular."
"Then we are quite obscure." Yin Mu said casually, "But it's okay, it's a kind of luck that no one scolds us for being obscure."
"You're quite open-minded."
"Just keep a positive attitude." Yin Mu smiled and shared with Zhong Mengyuan, "But it's not that obscure, you know? Chen Qinglin even got an advertising invitation thanks to it."
"Huh? Really?"
"Yeah, that's what he just told me."
"That's great," Zhong Mengyuan said. "I hope he seizes the opportunity."
"Yeah, after being unlucky for a long time, you have to give people some hope."
Zhong Mengyuan said "hmm" and asked, "Can I sleep in your room today?"
"Of course you can, as long as you're not afraid of me disturbing your sleep."
"It's okay, I'm not afraid." Zhong Mengyuan stood up, "Then I'll go wash up first."
"good--"
Yin Mu watched her walk out of the room, and that inexplicable feeling of discomfiture came up again. She thought about it for a while but had no clue, so she sighed helplessly.
Zhong Mengyuan kept playing with her cell phone. She only put it down when Yin Mu was about to fall asleep and then lay down to chat with her.
Yin Mu was originally sleepy, but Zhong Mengyuan talked to her about her middle school days. Recalling her youthful years, her sleepiness disappeared again. She became more and more energetic as she talked, and fell into a drowsy sleep in the second half of the night.
The next day, Yin Mu woke up very late and found that Zhong Mengyuan was not at home. After sending a message to ask, he found out that she had gone out to buy something and would be back soon. He didn't care about it, ate something casually for breakfast, and then went back to the room to continue working.
Lunch time passed unknowingly, but Zhong Mengyuan still hadn't come back. Yin Mu felt strange and was about to call to ask, but his cell phone rang first. It was an unfamiliar number.
Yin Mu never answered unfamiliar calls. He was about to hang up when he had a bad feeling. After hesitating for two seconds, he finally answered the call: "Hello?"
"Excuse me, are you a friend of Zhong Mengyuan?"
Yin Mu replied nervously: "I am."
"I'm from the First Hospital. Your friend just had a car accident on Wutong Road..."
Yin Mu only heard the two words "car accident" and could not hear anything else. He just felt a buzzing in his head, and his whole body was spinning and he could hardly stand.
"Hello? Hello, are you still there?"
Yin Mu leaned on the desk, managed to calm himself down, and said in a trembling voice: "I'll be there soon."
Her mind was in a mess. She changed her clothes and hurried downstairs, taking a taxi straight to the First Hospital.
On the road, she kept urging the driver to drive faster. The driver was a little dissatisfied, but seeing her pale face, he thought that something big had really happened, so he didn't say anything and tried to speed up.
Yin Mu arrived at the hospital, pretended to be calm and asked which ward Zhong Mengyuan was in, then rushed over.
As she took the elevator upstairs, she mentally prepared herself for the worst. She dragged her heavy feet to the door of the ward, took a deep breath, and pushed the door open.
Zhong Mengyuan heard the door open, looked up and saw her, smiled and raised his chin towards her: "You're here."
There was a large piece of gauze on her forehead, her right arm was bandaged, and her left arm had also been treated and was in a sling. Fortunately, she was in good spirits and did not fall into a coma as she had imagined in the worst case scenario.
Yin Mu breathed a sigh of relief, wanting to cry and laugh at the same time, and walked forward quickly: "You scared me to death, I told you a long time ago to be careful when driving, and not to drive so fast, but you just didn't listen, you——"
"Alright, alright, stop scolding me." Zhong Mengyuan quickly stopped her from saying anything more. "Look, I'm here intact, aren't I?"
"You call it intact?" Yin Mu glared at her angrily and reached out to lift her quilt. "Are there any other injuries? How's your leg?"
"It's okay. It's just a small scrape on your leg. It's not a big deal." Zhong Mengyuan said, "I told the nurse not to scare you. What did she say to you?"
Yin Mu was speechless. She was stunned by the word "car accident" and didn't hear the rest of the words clearly.
Zhong Mengyuan understood her reaction immediately and shook his head helplessly: "Can't you be more steady? You're so impatient."
“Who can be blamed for this?”
"Okay, okay, it's my fault." Zhong Mengyuan raised his hands in surrender. "I was indeed careless this time and made you worry. I apologize."
After all, she was a wounded soldier. Yin Mu felt sorry for her miserable appearance and could no longer get angry. He touched her slightly messy hair and asked worriedly, "Does it hurt?"
"It hurts so much." Zhong Mengyuan looked at her pitifully, "Please treat me to something delicious later to comfort me."
"You're still thinking about eating even though you're in this state. Do you want to be hospitalized?"
Zhong Mengyuan waved her hand: "No need, it's not that serious at all. The doctor said I just need to go home and rest."
Yin Mu nodded: "Okay, I'll go talk to the doctor later. If there's nothing wrong, we'll go home. - By the way, where's the driver? Where is he? What was the situation at the time?"
"It wasn't a car that hit me. I hit the guardrail while trying to avoid an electric bike," Zhong Mengyuan explained vaguely. "Anyway, I'm fine, so let it be."
"An electric bike again." Yin Mu couldn't help but frown and said, "Those people who ride electric bikes are too unreasonable. They all ride very fast. They really think they have a tough life. - Did I tell you? Two years ago, my second aunt was hit by an electric bike and she was bedridden for a month before she recovered."
"I know, I know. You've warned me many times." Zhong Mengyuan said, "I promise I'll be more careful next time."
At this time, the doctor also came in. Yin Mu talked to him about Zhong Mengyuan's condition and listened to some precautions he talked about. After confirming that Zhong Mengyuan did not need to be hospitalized, he took her home.
Although he was injured, Zhong Mengyuan's mood was visibly uplifted. Yin Mu asked in confusion, "Why do I feel like you're quite happy about the car crash?"
"How could that be? I'm injured and it hurts too!" Zhong Mengyuan blinked in grievance. "Isn't it worth being happy that I survived a disaster?"
What she said made a lot of sense. Yin Mu couldn't refute it and had to admit: "Okay, you are right."
Zhong Mengyuan was unconvinced: "That's how it is."
“…”
Over the next few days, Zhong Mengyuan recovered at home while Yin Mu continued working on her own work. She had high hopes for her work, and after completing the first draft, she incorporated Zhong Mengyuan's suggestions and made some revisions, finally reaching a level of basic satisfaction.
Zhong Mengyuan asked her: "Then what? Where do you want to invest it?"
Yin Mu didn't have any channels here, so he shook his head and said, "For now, I'll just submit it to the website where I'm currently serializing it. Now I can only try my luck."
Zhong Mengyuan comforted her: "It's okay, you are a well-known writer. With your ability, this is not a problem at all."
Yin Mu smiled bitterly: "I am not a famous writer. If I were a famous writer, I wouldn't be in this predicament."
Zhong Mengyuan encouraged her: "Giving up before you even start is not your style. I believe in you, there will be no problem!"
Yin Mu looked at the dolphin on the desk and sighed, "I hope so."
"Okay, cheer up." Zhong Mengyuan patted her shoulder. "By the way, now that you're done, can we go out and play with Zheng Wei?"
Zheng Wei had asked them out several times, but one of them was busy and the other was recovering from an injury, so she had to postpone it regretfully. Now that she finally has time, it's time to write them a reply.
"But she asked us to go to a bar, and you can't drink now."
"I can drink something else. Didn't you say you didn't want me to stay cooped up at home all the time?" Zhong Mengyuan shook her arm and begged, "Okay?"
"You promise?"
"Swear on the ceiling!"
Yin Mu hesitated for a moment and agreed: "Okay, then you make an appointment with Zheng Wei."
Zhong Mengyuan immediately agreed: "No problem, leave it to me."
Zheng Wei was very happy when she received the news from Zhong Mengyuan, and she immediately made an appointment with them to meet at a bar street in the evening.
It has been a while since they last saw each other. Zheng Wei couldn't hide her excitement. She hugged them both one by one and asked about Zhong Mengyuan's health with concern.
Zhong Mengyuan raised his arm: "It won't delay our coming out to play."
The three of them chose a relatively quiet bar and found a seat at the bar. Zheng Wei looked them over and said, "Why do you both look a lot more haggard? What have you been busy with lately?"
Yin Mu and Zhong Mengyuan looked at each other: "Really?"
"A little bit." Zheng Wei gestured, "You guys should pay attention to your image. Don't act like old ladies at such a young age."
"It's not that serious." Yin Mu laughed and teased her, "We are not professionals like you, so it's okay to be careless like this."
Zheng Wei patted her sheepishly and said, "Stop making fun of me."
“I don’t have any!”
They drank and chatted until Yin Mu was so sleepy that he yawned and couldn't bear it any longer. Then the three of them left the bar and went home to sleep.
On the way back in the taxi, Zhong Mengyuan leaned back in the chair and suddenly asked out of the blue: "Tell me, if I'm gone one day, will you miss me?"
Yin Mu had drunk a little, and his mind was a little unclear. He closed his eyes and said casually: "Why are you not here? Where do you want to go?"
Zhong Mengyuan remained silent.
