Chapter 44 Ceasefire

boom--

A deafening roar echoed through the sky, and waves of spiritual energy spread outwards, snapping trees in half wherever they passed.

Dark clouds rose, obscuring the moonlight, and the entire world suddenly darkened.

The sword rain and the giant bird disappeared into the sky together.

Lu Zhaozhao was struck by the residual force and was forced back several steps, clutching her chest and spitting out blood.

She looked up, searching for the figure of that enormous creature from before.

The two golden lights on the ground were still there, inside which were Changyu Lanshan and Nan Rongrui, who were bound by the scriptures. They lay on the ground, barely alive but not seriously injured, and their lives were spared.

In the middle of the lake, thick fog lingered, and the aftershocks of the battle had not yet dissipated, making it impossible to see anything for the time being.

A figure emerged from the mist.

The man was clutching his arm, his left sleeve soaked with blood, and blood droplets were trickling down his face. There seemed to be blood at the corner of his mouth as well, and he looked to be in equally bad shape.

The man looked up and met Lu Zhaozhao's gaze.

It was Cheng Sangji! Lu Zhaozhao's eyes widened.

She clearly heard Nan Rongrui call out "Second Brother" just now, but the two of them aren't from the same clan, so how could...

Lu Zhaozhao's thoughts were in disarray.

Not only her, but all the other members of the eight clans present, except for Nan Rongrui, Cheng Sangji, and Tudan Xixiang, were also shocked by this address of "Second Brother".

"Hey, could you please untie this thing for me first?" Changyu Lanshan said weakly to Huai Jiang beside him.

Huai Jiang rolled her eyes and squatted down to undo the formation for him. Beside her, Tu Danxi also squatted down to undo the formation binding Nan Rongrui.

Lu Zhaozhao glanced down. She knew that the formation would be broken sooner or later, so she stopped worrying about it and just watched Cheng Sangji approach step by step.

He had a large gash on his shoulder, from which blood was gushing out.

Lu Zhaozhao twitched her lips, wanting to say something, but the pain from her internal injuries prevented her from speaking.

Cheng Sangji stopped in front of her, his face warm and gentle, just as he had when they first met.

"Let's stop the war," he said. "We have wronged you in the past, and I imagine you don't want to have more formidable enemies, so let's stop the war."

His tone was somewhat unsteady, as if he was affected by his injury, and he managed to utter a complete sentence with difficulty.

Lu Zhaozhao looked at him and said softly, "Why should I believe you?"

"I swear in the name of my people."

"What about the others? Did they also swear an oath in the name of their clan?"

Cheng Sangji paused for a moment, then chuckled and said, "Unless they don't want to fight the Demon Lord and are willing to submit, they won't be foolish enough to create enemies for themselves after the three races have withdrawn."

"Three clans?" Lu Zhaozhao asked, somewhat puzzled.

“I am related to Nan Rongrui and Tudanxi by marriage,” Cheng Sangji explained, looking intently at Lu Zhaozhao. “They will definitely comply with my request.”

Lu Zhaozhao glanced at Nan Rongrui, who was being helped up by Tu Danxi, nodded slightly, and added, "These demons?"

“I will make Nan Rongrui release him,” Cheng Sangjie continued.

Lu Zhaozhao pondered for a moment, left a "Deal" and turned to leave.

Just then, Cheng Sangji grabbed her with his other uninjured hand. Lu Zhaozhao thought he was going to betray her, so she immediately pointed her sword at his neck.

Cheng Sangji chuckled lightly, released his hand, and put it behind his back to indicate that he meant no harm.

He looked into Lu Zhaozhao's eyes and asked, "If we're not enemies, can we be friends?"

Lu Zhaozhao gave him a once-over, as if he were an idiot, said nothing, and turned to leave. Reaching a corner, she picked up the veil lying there, quickly put it on, and left this place of trouble.

Cheng Sangji watched her departing figure, sighed, and stood there for a long time.

After settling Nan Rongrui in, Tu Danxi walked over to him and asked, "You're injured, aren't you going to get it treated?"

Cheng Sangji looked at him, shook his head, and returned to his original position.

Tudanxi scratched his head in confusion, followed his gaze and saw only a mess, then turned back to look at him.

"Do you want to go there?" Tudanxi asked.

Cheng Sangji looked at him with some surprise and asked, "Why do you say that?"

Tu Danxi grinned foolishly and said, "I don't know why, but your eyes look just like when I see meat. I've never seen you look at anything with such eyes before."

Cheng Sangji laughed after hearing his description, reached out and patted his head, asking, "How is Third Sister?"

It took Tu Danxi a long time to realize that he was referring to Nan Rongrui, and he immediately replied, "He was seriously injured and should rest for a while."

Cheng Sangji nodded, regaining his usual expression, and instructed, "Let them lift this barrier."

After saying that, he turned and walked towards Nan Rongrui.

Tudan Xixiang nodded, watching Cheng Sangji's departing figure. For the first time, he felt that his omnipotent brother looked somewhat disheveled and, moreover, somewhat forlorn.
