"Beep beep, beep beep beep, system connection successful."
What was that sound? Lu Zhaozhao frowned instinctively, as if she had been disturbed while she was fast asleep.
[Host, we meet again. Congratulations! Through this simulated death, you have completed the storyline of the villainous female supporting character Lu Zhaozhao from the original novel. From now on, your actions will be beyond the system's control. You only need to complete the task of cultivating immortality and ascending to immortality to leave this world.]
What is it? What system? What host?
Lu Zhaozhao's mind was a complete mess, and she couldn't quite make sense of what was going on.
[Beep beep beep, beep beep beep, host, are you listening? Please reply if you receive this message.]
"It's so noisy!"
Unable to hold back any longer, Lu Zhaozhao called out.
Her hair was stroked by a pair of hands, gentle and light, clearing away all her worries.
"One should dwell nowhere, yet give rise to the mind... From delusion arises attachment, and thus my illness arises... When all forms are not forms, one sees the Tathagata..."
That voice sounds familiar, who is it?
With her mind clearing up, Lu Zhaozhao slowly drifted off to sleep again.
It felt like an eternity before Lu Zhaozhao regained her senses, but her eyelids were so heavy that she couldn't open them no matter what she did.
My body feels very heavy, and my back still feels like it's hurting.
The pain spread throughout her body, and she gradually remembered.
At the Golden Banquet, she triumphed and ascended the stage, but before she could even bask in the glory, the demons suddenly attacked.
On her escape, she was intercepted by Nan Yuan, who poisoned a peacock feather and struck her in the back. The poison immediately spread throughout her body, leaving her no time to react.
So, is she dead? But she's clearly still conscious.
So...she's still alive?
The system's words flashed through her mind again, meaning she was now free?
Her mind, which had been dormant for too long, was in a mess, and the chaotic situation made her even more confused, which only made her head ache more.
My fingers twitched, and someone grabbed them.
"Guan Nan, wake up... Guan Nan..."
Who is it? Who is Guan Nan? Guan Nan... it's me!
Lu Zhaozhao suddenly opened her eyes, and a familiar face came into view.
"Master...is that you, Master?"
Master Jingwen! Her master in the illusion! How did she appear here? Is she in an illusion or reality?
Master Jingwen covered Lu Zhaozhao's eyes with her hand and whispered in her ear, "Good child, you've worked hard. Get some rest."
A tear slid down her cheek, and unconsciously, Lu Zhaozhao couldn't help but shed tears.
For so long, no one has ever said "thank you for your hard work" to her.
"Good child." Master Jingwen's voice choked with emotion, as if she felt the pain as if she were seeing the injured child.
"It's okay, it's all over, it's alright."
Lu Zhaozhao closed her eyes, sniffed, and a surge of grievance welled up inside her. She couldn't hold back any longer, and tears streamed down her face uncontrollably.
The sound of chanting rang in her ears again; it was the sound Lu Zhaozhao heard most often during the first year she entered the illusion.
She had ventured beyond the back mountain and out into the outside world, but the shadow of slaying the monster haunted her with nightmares every night.
After following Master Jingwen, she would chant sutras every night, and Lu Zhaozhao would fall asleep to the sound of her voice, thus enjoying a rare and relaxing year.
"How I miss those days," Lu Zhaozhao thought. She really missed those days; it was the only year she could relax after coming into this world, a time that was now just out of reach.
She fell asleep again as the scriptures were being recited.
