"Mom said drinking this is good for your health. Try it." He placed the bowl on the bedside and said gently, "It's just been cooked. Be careful of the heat."
Yan Funing glanced at the soup in the bowl and asked in confusion, "I've never bought brown sugar before. Where did this brown sugar come from?"
"My brother went to town to buy it. He came back and started cooking it in the kitchen. He kept it simmering until he heard my sister-in-law get up, so he brought it over."
Fu Nanyao walked into the room holding a handheld mirror.
She sat at the head of the bed and showed Yan Funing the mirror: "Sister-in-law, look at the mirror my brother gave me. Isn't it beautiful?"
Yan Funing nodded: "Beautiful."
"I think it's beautiful too." Fu Nanyao said, "We don't have a mirror at home. I plan to put it in the main room so we can use it together."
Yan Funing glanced at Fu Ciyi quickly, then lowered her eyes and said, "Your brother also gave me one, so you can keep this one for yourself."
Fu Nanyao looked up at his standing brother: "Really?"
Fu Ciyi said "hmm" and left the room.
Fu Nanyao leaned close to Yan Funing and whispered, "Sister-in-law, don't you think your brother is interested in you? He even gave you a mirror."
Yan Funing pursed her lips and didn't say why she had just put the mirror away.
I don't think he was thoughtful enough just to give me a mirror.
There were three girls in the family. His mother-in-law was blind and didn't need a mirror, so he wanted to buy one for his younger sister and bought hers as well.
That's about it.
But she was still grateful that he could help buy brown sugar.
The aunt and sister-in-law had a conversation.
After Fu Nanyao left the west wing, Fu Ciyi went in.
He took a spoon and put it in the bowl, then tested the temperature with his fingertips outside the bowl: "It's not hot now. Do you want me to feed you?"
