Chapter 39 Couple Progress

The way she ran was like a fast-forwarded shot, which was quite funny. Yan Funing giggled out loud.

She no longer looked as delicate as before.

Fu Ciyi couldn't help but ask, "Are you really afraid of her, or are you just pretending to be afraid?"

"If she had taken a sickle and cut me, I'd be afraid. But she doesn't have a sickle right now, and you're by my side, so why should I be afraid of her?"

When the two returned home, smoke was already rising from the chimney and the aroma of the pork rib soup they had eaten at noon was wafting in the air.

Yan Funing took a few quick steps and went to the kitchen first.

Fu Beimo was making a fire, and Fu Nanyao was putting noodles into the pot under Wan Niang's instructions.

"Mom, we're back." Yan Funing shouted.

"Okay, you came back late today. What happened?" Wan Niang asked worriedly.

"Nothing."

Fu Ciyi walked in slowly, said two words lightly, and then scooped up water to wash his hands.

Yan Funing said with a smile, "My husband was amazing today. He picked two Ganoderma lucidum. But because he went to the deep mountains and forests, he came back a little late."

"There are wild beasts in the deep mountains and old forests, so don't go there anymore," Wan Niang said. "I thought you'd be hungry when you got back, so I made some hand-rolled noodles with the leftover pork rib soup from lunch."

"That's excellent."

Yan Funing put down the backpack and took out the Ganoderma lucidum inside to show her family.

Since Wan Niang couldn't see, she asked her to touch it.

Wan Niang smiled and nodded: "Ganoderma lucidum is a good thing."

"I'll sell it tomorrow."

Yan Funing hid the Ganoderma lucidum back into the backpack, this time hiding it at the bottom.

At this time, Fu Ciyi said to her: "Come out."

Yan Funing responded and followed him into the yard.

Unexpectedly, he walked all the way out of the yard and stopped only after he was out of the fence.

"What's the matter?" she asked.

Through the fence, you can see what’s going on in the kitchen, but no one at home can hear what’s being said there.

He then said, "Picking Ganoderma lucidum from the cliff, you don't need to explain in detail."

Yan Funing nodded: "I understand, you are afraid that mother and Nanyao Beimo will worry."

In the kitchen, Wanniang asked her daughter, "What are your brother and sister-in-law doing?"

"Standing face to face, talking." Fu Nanyao pursed her lips, "It seemed quite mysterious."

Wan Niang laughed out loud: "They are husband and wife, so they probably have some secrets that are not suitable for us to hear."

Fu Beimo was puzzled and asked, "Mom, what do couples talk about in private?"

"You kid, why don't you light the fire properly?"

"Then I'll light the fire. Can I go ask my brother and sister-in-law later?"

Wan Niang laughed angrily and patted Fu Beimo's back: "Don't ask!"

--

It was completely dark when the Fu family's pork ribs noodle soup was served on the table.

The soup was delicious and the noodles were chewy, and everyone enjoyed the meal.

Fu Beimo always remembered what his mother told him not to ask, and the more he did so, the more curious he became.

"Brother and sister-in-law, what did you say and do in secret?"

Wan Niang patted his back again: "Kid, didn't I tell you not to ask?"

Fu Beimo complained: "In the afternoon, my brother and sister-in-law went into the mountains without me. They just whispered to each other about not taking me with them either. I'm so sad."

Wan Niang laughed again in anger: "Your brother and sister-in-law are husband and wife, how could they bring you along for everything?"

As soon as she said this, Wan Niang realized that what she said would embarrass her eldest son and daughter-in-law, so she laughed to cover it up.

Even so, as a mother, she was curious about how far the young couple had progressed.

So he pricked up his ears and listened.

Fu Ciyi: "Everyone eats noodles."

Yan Funing: "Everyone eats noodles."

After saying the same thing again, the two looked at each other and the atmosphere really began to become awkward.

Fu Beimo obediently took a big mouthful of noodles and muttered, "I don't care, you must call me next time."

The boy is very naive and will definitely not think about other things.

Thinking of this, Yan Funing said, "Sister-in-law will go to town tomorrow and buy you some malt candy. There are still some candy beans from last time, I'll give them to you later."

"Well, sister-in-law is the best!"

Only then did Fu Beimo feel happy.

--

Early the next morning, Yan Funing set out for the market alone.

After arriving in town on Coachman Li's ox cart, she went straight to the restaurant.

Shopkeeper Liu is using an abacus.

Seeing how carefully he was fighting, Yan Funing waited patiently for a moment.

After the accounts were settled, Shopkeeper Liu looked up and said, "Young lady, you're here. Why are you alone today?"

"Well, my family is busy, so I came here alone." Yan Funing put the basket on the ground and said in a low voice, "I have two Ganoderma lucidum. Would you like to take them?"

Shopkeeper Liu glanced at the backpack.

"We need wild oyster mushrooms, but I don't buy Ganoderma lucidum." He shook his head and pointed outside, "There's a clinic over there, they buy it."

Yan Funing nodded and said with a smile: "Shopkeeper, you can consider making a few medicinal dishes in the future. I'm sure such a demanding customer will like them."

Shopkeeper Liu was inspired: "This is worth considering."

After saying that, he weighed the oyster mushrooms as usual.

"This time we have a lot more oyster mushrooms, eleven catties, for a total of two hundred and seventy-five coins. If the scale is tilted upward, it's two hundred and eighty coins."

Shopkeeper Liu ordered his men to take the oyster mushrooms to the kitchen, while he himself took out the copper coins from the drawer.

Yan Funing took the copper coin and thanked him: "Thank you, shopkeeper!"

Shopkeeper Liu nodded and saw two Ganoderma lucidum lying at the bottom of her backpack, which was particularly conspicuous.

"It's not safe for a little girl like you to walk on the street with such valuables."

As he spoke, he took out a piece of oil paper, crumpled it up, and covered the Ganoderma lucidum with it.

"The shopkeeper is a good man!" Yan Funing smiled, her eyebrows curved. "If the shopkeeper is interested in making some medicinal dishes, I can help you come up with some menus."
