Chapter 6 Eye to Eye

"No, it's not."

Yan Funing took a small bag and moved forward.

The bag contained her clothes and no other luggage.

The two of them entered the house one after the other.

The house had not been occupied for a long time, and even though the steps were slow, a lot of dust was still raised, and the dust illuminated by the light also floated with it.

Yan Funing wanted to ask him why he didn't tell his family, as she was the one who broke up the marriage, but when she saw so much dust in the house, she had to shut up and clean it up.

I had just moved to the countryside, and although I didn't have much luggage, it still took me quite a while to pack it up.

--

Noon.

Wan Niang blamed herself: "It's all my fault for being useless."

They left Fu's house without any rice or flour, so they were going to starve.

"I brought some steamed buns with me when I came out. I'll have them for lunch." Fu Ciyi took out a cloth bag and put it on the table. "In the afternoon, I'll go to the mountains to collect firewood."

And hunt some game.

As he spoke, he first gave his mother a steamed bun.

Fu Beimo moved quickly, picked up one in each hand and started chewing on it.

Fu Nanyao took a steamed bun and put it in Yan Funing's hand: "Sister-in-law, eat quickly."

Yan Funing: "Thank you!"

The weather is cold and the steamed buns have frozen hard.

Fu Beimo only took a few bites and couldn't eat anymore, and shouted that he wanted to go collect firewood.

Wan Niang said, "Just eat breakfast. It's okay to skip a meal, but it will make my daughter-in-law suffer."

Although her daughter-in-law was not a biological daughter of the Yan family, she had been spoiled since childhood. If she married her eldest son, she would suffer hardships. Just thinking about it made her heart ache.

Yan Funing ate in small bites, not knowing how to respond, so she just said, "I'm not hungry."

It is said that the relationship between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law has been a problem since ancient times, but her nominal mother-in-law is really good, speaks softly, and looks gentle.

After a slight pause, Yan Funing continued, "I'll go collect firewood too."

Afraid that someone would leave her behind, she looked up at him.

Fu Ciyi had never expected that she would meet his gaze like this.

He stood there, one higher than the other, looking at her.

From this angle, he could easily see her expression.

Her eyelashes were thick and long, and her watery eyes stared at him without blinking, like a little fox begging for pity...

Innocence with cunning.

It’s said that this woman has a purpose in everything she does, and now that she has nowhere to go, she starts to act pitiful in front of him?

But what surprised him was that her eyes were clear and pure.

"Just let their brothers go."

Wan Niang's words made the two people who were looking at each other look away and each of them ate their cold steamed buns.

Yan Funing lowered her eyes and said, "One more person can help us collect more. It's cold today, so the firewood will burn quickly."

Only then did Wan Niang agree to let her go.

Before leaving, Fu Ciyi took a few strips of cloth and tied them together to bundle firewood. Yan Funing found a backpack from the woodshed and put it on her back.

The two of them called Fu Beimo and walked into the mountains together.

The weather was cold and there was almost no large firewood to pick up on the hill near the village.

The three of them had no choice but to march into the mountains.

Fu Ciyi was tall and had long legs. He walked in front, saying nothing all the way.

Fu Beimo followed Yan Funing, kicking the dry branches on the ground as he walked, chattering non-stop: "...Sister-in-law, have you ever seen ants fight?"

Yan Funing shook her head: "No."

"The fight between ants is really interesting. Next time I will ask my sister-in-law to watch it with me."

"good."

Fu Beimo said happily: "My brothers and sisters never agreed to watch it with me, so my sister-in-law is better."

Fu Ciyi, who was walking in front, paused slightly and asked, "Hello, lady?"

Just appearance.

He wanted to see how long she could continue acting.

The deep mountains are rarely visited by people, probably because wild animals roam there.

There was a lot of firewood on the ground, and the three of them picked up a lot in a short while.

They piled the firewood together and tied it into bundles.

When the firewood was bundled into four piles, Fu Ciyi said coldly, "Wait here for me. I'll be back soon."

Fu Beimo: "Oh."

Yan Funing: "Okay."

After Fu Ciyi's figure disappeared from sight, Yan Funing walked to the other side.

Fu Beimo followed her footsteps, thinking she was going to collect more firewood, so he said, "Sister-in-law's backpack is too small to hold firewood."

Yan Funing dusted off her hands and said, "The backpack isn't for carrying firewood."

"What's that for?" Fu Beimo chased after him.

"Mushroom picking." Yan Funing stopped and looked around. "See if there are any dead trees nearby. If I'm lucky..."

Before she could finish her words, she saw a dead tree covered with wild oyster mushrooms.

Yan Funing ran over quickly, picked the flowers one by one and put them into the basket behind her.

Fu Beimo imitated her, picked the fruits carefully, and put them in her backpack.

Soon the backpack was full.

Fu Beimo muttered, "It can't hold any more."

"It's okay, leave some small ones and we'll pick them next time."

When the two returned to the firewood pile, Fu Ciyi had not returned yet.

Yan Funing took off the backpack and squeezed her shoulders, which were aching. She was such a delicate person that her shoulders ached just from carrying a basket of mushrooms.

Fu Beimo took a dead branch, squatted on the ground and scratched it, and suddenly called out: "Sister-in-law, come and see, there are ants!"

Yan Funing moved her arms, walked to his side, lifted her skirt, and squatted down.

There were indeed a few ants on the ground.

"They didn't fight."

Fu Beimo said seriously: "Yes, they like to fight in groups."

Yan Funing was surprised and said, "Your observation skills are very impressive."

Ants live in groups, and conflicts often occur between ants from different groups, leading to fierce battles, just like two armies charging into battle.

It's really amazing that the innocent boy in front of me can observe this.
