Otherwise, it would be impossible for the four brothers of the Ye family to grow so tall.
Later, when the four sons grew up and their lives became a little better, Old Mrs. Ye would occasionally take the initiative to improve everyone's meals.
Since entering the customs, their lives have become more and more prosperous, and the family would eat meat every few days. Old Mrs. Ye never said anything, and she was especially happy to see the children eating with relish, even happier than if she had eaten herself.
However, elderly people like Grandma Lin Yumei were not unheard of outside the Great Wall before.
But that's because my family is not well off and I have to be stingy.
This is the first time I have met an elderly person whose family is well-off but who is reluctant to provide food and drink for his children.
Mrs. Ye Dasao and Mrs. Ye Sansao couldn't think of any good solution for a while, so they could only persuade Lin Yumei to be more open-minded, and try to cook for the children herself at home, and bring back more dishes when she goes out to prepare banquets. If she can't come back occasionally, it's not a big deal for the children to have one or two light meals.
Three people shared a jar of wine and drank until they were slightly tipsy. They were tired after a whole day, so they fell asleep immediately.
I slept until dawn.
Early the next morning, the three were woken up by Wang Ping.
"Mom, Aunt Ye, Aunt Third, grandma has prepared breakfast and asked you to get up and eat."
When the three of them saw that it was already bright outside, they quickly got up and washed.
Only when they sat down at the table did Mrs. Ye Dasao and Mrs. Ye Sansao understand what Lin Yumei meant last night.
The Wang family’s breakfast was just a pot of millet porridge with the bottom so clear that you could almost count the grains of rice in it.
Then four side dishes were placed on the table, namely fermented bean curd, pickled cucumbers and pickled sweet potato leaves, as well as a small bowl of egg custard.
When Lin Yumei saw the dishes on the table, her face suddenly turned ugly.
She reached out and pulled her mother-in-law into the outer room and said, "Didn't I tell you that we both rely on the Ye family for our income now? Why are you giving them this to eat so early in the morning?"
"What's wrong? Didn't I steam the egg custard?" Aunt Wang looked puzzled.
"What can a small bowl of egg custard do? One spoonful per person wouldn't even be enough, right?" Lin Yumei was so angry that her hands were shaking. "Do you know how much money I can earn by following Madam You to the capital to host a banquet?
“Your son is now following Third Brother Ye and helping Young Master Qin.
"The thing you did yesterday made them think you didn't want to host them in our house, and I even tried to explain it to them in a nice way.
"Now you're giving us this to eat so early in the morning? I think you're deliberately trying to make life difficult for us. You wish we'd have to eat only coarse food every day, right?"
"Lin Yumei, what do you mean by that?" Aunt Wang's defense was instantly broken. "I think you've made a few extra taels of silver recently, so you don't like anything about me, right?
"Wang Ge is my only son, how can I not hope for his well-being?
"You're busy outside every day and never come home. I raised both children. I'm old now, how can it be easy for me?
"Who am I saving money for? Isn't it for you? Now that the child is grown up and doesn't need anyone to look after him, you start finding fault with me. Don't you want to use an old woman like me anymore?"
Lin Yumei was extremely angry at her unreasonable behavior.
"Who's picking on you? I give you so much money every month, and you feed me and the kids this every day. I can't say anything?
"Besides, these are your own grandsons and granddaughters, if you don't look at them, who will?
"If you agree to let your son marry into my family, and the child takes my surname, I won't need you to look after him!"
After hearing this, Aunt Wang sat down on the ground and started crying.
"Lin Yumei, you've finally let go of your foxy ways, haven't you? I knew you were always finding fault with me, but you had no good intentions!
"I only have this one son. He's not incapable of making money. Don't think that just because you make a little more money now you can dominate my family. Our family is also called Wang!"
When Mrs. Ye Dasao and Mrs. Ye Sansao heard the crying in the house, they hurried out to check the situation. They saw that the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law were sitting on the ground, slapping her thigh and crying, while the other was standing and wiping her tears.
The two sisters-in-law looked at each other, and one of them stepped forward and quickly separated the people.
Mrs. Ye San first pulled Lin Yumei, who was wiping her tears, into the main room.
Mrs. Ye stepped forward and helped Aunt Wang, who was sitting on the ground crying, up.
"Auntie, there's no good talk in a quarrel, and don't take Yumei's words to heart. Usually when we go out to have a banquet, Yumei always praises you to us, saying that thanks to you helping her take care of the children at home, she can go out and work without worry."
Aunt Wang felt too embarrassed to continue criticizing her daughter-in-law in front of Mrs. Ye.
But he didn't completely believe what Mrs. Ye said.
Elsewhere, after pulling Lin Yumei into the house, Sister Ye suddenly asked, "Does your mother-in-law really only have Brother Wang as her son?"
"yes."
"You guys live with her and didn't abandon her, so why is she still so stingy in saving money?" Mrs. Ye was very puzzled.
"Who knows? My husband Wang and I both think that my mother-in-law had lived through hard times. It's not easy for a widow to raise three children.
"She's old now, and maybe she feels insecure because she doesn't have enough money, so she wants to save more money!"
"What's wrong with having three children? My mother-in-law is a widow raising four sons, but she's not so stingy!" Mrs. Ye rolled her eyes, "Then your two sisters-in-law are both local, right?
"My eldest sister has gone out of town with her husband, so it's good enough if I can see her once a year.
"My sister-in-law married in the capital, and my brother-in-law is a peddler."
