Chapter 120: More than a dozen people have died

Sister-in-law Ye was amazed when she heard this. She came over to help her take care of the remaining cattails and said, "I used to think it would be great if I could have another daughter, but now seeing you like this, I'm a little scared."

"What are you so scared of?" Mrs. Ye asked in confusion.

"I've figured it out now. Although my daughter is considerate, my son has his own merits. At least he's tough and resilient.

"I'm afraid that such delicate work as taking care of my daughter is not suitable for me. I'm not as attentive as you, sister-in-law."

Qingtian is young and has a small head, so the hat doesn’t need to be too big, so it was done quickly.

Mrs. Ye went all the way back to Ye Juaner's field and put a straw hat on Qingtian.

She now knew every part of Qingtian's body very well. Although she didn't measure his size, the straw hat she wove was just right.

Qingtian got the straw hat and couldn't let it go. He took it off and looked at it over and over again.

"Oh, there are such small straw hats?" Ye Juan'er was surprised. "It's woven quite intricately."

"Auntie, I just knitted it for Qingtian to wear to block the sun." Mrs. Ye then reminded Qingtian, "Wear it well and don't take it off."

"Okay." Qingtian quickly put his hat back on his head and nodded repeatedly.

In fact, even if Mrs. Ye didn't say it, she was reluctant to take off the hat her mother had knitted for her.

When she heard that it was Sister Ye who had woven it for her personally, she liked it even more. She even touched it very gently, for fear that she would damage it if she used too much force.

Ye Juan'er also praised him, "Seeing how attentive you are to Qingtian every day, I feel embarrassed to say that I have raised a daughter."

"We've been married for so many years, and it took us so long to finally have our precious baby, Qingtian." Seeing Qingtian skipping around to show off her straw hat to her brothers, Sister Ye said with a doting look on her face, "I'm not afraid of you laughing at me, but I really want to be with her every day. I feel so empty inside when I can't see her for a while."

Ye Juan'er just thought that she was talking about how it took so many years of marriage to finally have a child, so she naturally understood her feelings very well.

Although Mr. and Mrs. Ye are only middle-aged, they are not yet at the stage where they can have a daughter in their old age.

However, a child who is born after years of anticipation is indeed more likely to become the apple of the parents' eyes, and they are eager to pour all the love and affection they have accumulated over the years into the child.

"It's certainly hard to be married for so many years without having children, but let me tell you, some people rejoice early, while others rejoice late.

“As long as you can have a baby, there’s no problem.

"There was a woman in the next village who was not happy for several years after she got married.

“Her husband was ready to divorce her and remarry, but guess what?

"I got pregnant suddenly! It didn't matter that I got pregnant, but after that I couldn't stop. I gave birth to four sons and one daughter in a row.

"You have a sunny day now, so don't worry about the rest, it will come naturally."

Ye Juan'er didn't know that Qingtian was adopted, and Mrs. Ye didn't intend to explain.

The couple had discussed this before when they were in Tianjin.

Since we have started a new life in a new place, no one should mention Qingtian's background anymore and just treat her as if she is their biological daughter.

So even though she gets along very well with Ye Juan'er now, Mrs. Ye just listens to her, nodding from time to time, and simply avoids talking about Qingtian's life experience.

Fortunately, Ye Juaner only chatted with her for a few words and then went back to digging peanuts.

The four brothers of the Ye family worked hard in the fields, so how could she just stand there and do nothing?

"Aunt, you guys are busy. I'll go back to cook. My mother asked your family to come to my house for lunch." Mrs. Ye said as she stood up and prepared to go back.

"Don't go back!" Ye Juan'er dropped the sickle in her hand, ran over, grabbed Mrs. Ye's arm and said, "I came to your house to help with the autumn harvest, how can I go to your house for dinner?

"I've prepared everything, you just need to help me with the spoon.

"I called your family over at noon. It's only been a short while, and we've already had several meals at your house. It's time for them to go to my house, right?

“In theory, I should be the one doing it.

"But you should have heard that my cooking skills are really terrible.

"If even my uncles can't stand it, I won't bother you.

"If the things I made were half-decent, I wouldn't have to shamelessly ask you for help!"

"Aunt..."

As soon as Sister Ye called out "Auntie", Ye Juan'er interrupted her and said, "Go back and tell your mother-in-law that if she doesn't come, I'll be angry.

"Although our two families are relatives, we still have to practice courtesy and reciprocity when we get along with each other. Your mother-in-law is such a smart person, how could she not understand this principle?"

Mrs. Ye thought so too, and nodded, "Okay, Auntie, I'll go back and tell my mother, and I'll come to your house to help you soon."

"That's right, that's more like it!"

After Mrs. Ye left, Ye Juan'er was worried about lunch and couldn't stay in the field any longer. After telling Liu Quan something, she went home.

Ye Juaner climbed up a small slope and just arrived at the main road.

I don't know how it happened that I ran into Widow Liu who was walking back dejectedly.

Widow Liu first asked around in the village, and found that everyone was busy with their own autumn harvest. Even if she was willing to pay, no one had the time to help others with the harvest.

Everyone said they had to wait until they had finished harvesting before they could go.

Widow Liu thought to herself, by the time you finish harvesting the day lilies, they will be cold.

Seeing that no one in the village was willing to take the job, she simply went to the official road and took a donkey cart to the county town.
