Chapter 27 Opportunity
Wen Zhiheng was awakened by a rustling sound in the middle of the night.
He was confused and woke up to check.
The sound came from the woodshed.
Chen Shiyi lives inside.
He lit a torch and stuck it at the door of the woodshed.
With the help of the light, he found that Chen Shiyi's face was flushed, his messy hair was soaked with sweat, his hands were drooping at his shoulders, and he kept crying out in pain unconsciously.
Wen Zhiheng gently pulled her hand down, revealing a corner of her shoulder that was red and swollen, very scary.
He pulled her clothes over her shoulders. There was not a single piece of healthy flesh on her thin shoulders and neck. How on earth did she get injured like this?
"Eleven, Eleven, wake up..."
Chen Shiyi didn't close his eyes and kept shouting nonsense.
"Mom, it hurts, Eleven is in so much pain..."
Chen Shiyi's hands tightly grasped Wen Zhiheng's clothes and refused to let go.
Wen Zhiheng grabbed her hand and comforted her.
"Your forehead is badly burned. I'll get you some cool water."
The mountain spring water that Chen Shiyi had brought in earlier was very cold and was a great way to cool down.
He kept wiping her forehead and hands for a long time before the heat gradually dissipated.
Finally, she stopped crying out in pain and fell into a peaceful sleep.
Perhaps the noise was too loud and it startled people.
Wen Zhirou walked out of the room and found Wen Zhiheng standing at the door of Chen Shiyi's room holding a towel, with a frown on his face.
"Brother, what's wrong? Is Eleven having a fever?"
Wen Zhiheng made a cold voice.
"Did you know she was hurt?"
"I found out today that she was in so much pain that she asked me to apply medicine to her."
"She was so badly injured, why didn't you tell me when I came back? I could have taken her to Ping'an Town to see a doctor."
"She told me today not to tell you."
"What?"
"She doesn't want you to worry. Besides, what else can you do? Do you have the money to see a doctor?"
"I'll find a way."
"You want a solution, you can think of a solution, why would you let Eleven do this?"
"We have only been in Fangling for a short time. Besides, I have no time at all since I am serving my sentence every day."
"Eleven is also coming to Fangling for the first time."
"You should at least share some of the chores with her and not leave everything to her."
Wen Zhirou sneered.
"She was our maid, so we naturally thought that it was her duty to do these things. Her current status was all given by you, big brother. We were criminals, and she was serving the criminals. You suppressed her status to the lowest level possible. Originally, we confiscated her property and exiled her. She could have been sold to a good family as property, and she might have lived a peaceful life in the capital. But you, for the sake of mother, for me, your sister, and for this family, personally sent a 14-year-old girl into the dust."
"Brother, the person who is most sorry to Eleven is you."
Wen Zhiheng froze in place in the face of Zhirou's accusation.
He recalled the journey he had taken, and it had been more than two months.
Along the way, if it weren't for Chen Shiyi, how could his family have arrived in Fangling safely.
If it weren't for Chen Shiyi, with the luxury they had in the capital, they would have died of hunger or illness in Fangling long ago.
And he actually despised the hands that were stained with mud and dust that had saved his family's lives, and despised the sweat that she shed when she fell into a trap and leaned on him in order to make money.
He always claimed to be an upright and kind person, but he bullied a little girl who helped him take care of his family.
What a irony!
No wonder Eleven didn't want to pay attention to him.
Their quarrel woke up all the family members.
Mrs. Wen hurriedly reprimanded Wen Zhirou in a deep voice.
"Is this how you talk to your eldest brother?"
"How can I say anything about him? He has always been dependent on Chen Shiyi. Look at him now. He can only say a few words of apology. Has he ever done anything useful?"
"He is serving his sentence. How can he have the energy to care about these trivial matters?"
"I remember my second brother mentioned that someone in the mine had to support his wife and children, so he went hunting in the mountains at night, and it was somewhat successful."
Mrs. Wen walked over and slapped Wen Zhirou in the face.
"Going into the mountains at night is a life-threatening thing. You are asking your elder brother to die."
"That's enough."
Wen Zhiheng shouted loudly, and everyone fell silent.
Chen Shiyi, who was rubbing his sleepy eyes, was woken up and walked out slowly.
She looked up at the sky and rubbed her sleepy eyes. It was still so dark. Why were they all up?
"So early? Did I sleep late? I'll go cook now."
"What to cook?"
Wen Zhiheng was furious, but after a pause he spoke softly to Chen Shiyi.
"It's still early, go back to bed."
Chen Shiyi said "oh" and returned to her woodshed.
If you don't want to do it, then don't do it. Why is it so dangerous?
Wen Zhiheng took a deep breath.
"Let's all go."
On the way to the mine, Wen Zhiyuan kept explaining to Wen Zhiheng.
"Brother, I swear I really didn't say that, and I don't know where Zhirou heard it."
Wen Zhiheng strode ahead, turned around and looked back at his half-brother with a complicated expression.
"Zhiyuan has good relationships with many people in the mines and knows a lot. I wonder which one of you went hunting in the mountains at night. I just want to ask for your experience."
Wen Zhiyuan looked flustered and bowed respectfully to Wen Zhiheng.
"There is no such person, big brother, you can see clearly."
"My sister-in-law is a very timid and kind person. Recently, she likes to find fault with Eleven. Has she changed a lot?"
Wen Zhiyuan lowered his head even lower.
"I will discipline her when I get back."
Wen Zhiheng looked at Wen Zhiyuan deeply.
"It's time to discipline him."
Inside the Fengming Mine, surveillance troops came and went.
Wen Zhiheng and Wen Zhiyuan took the basket in the mine and went down to the depths of the mine.
With an iron hammer, he kept hitting the rocks on the cliff. After accumulating a lot, he filled the basket with an iron shovel and pulled it out with a cable.
Over and over again, without seeing the light of day, this is what he does every day.
It is arduous and mentally taxing.
There was no air flowing in the mine, and it was like stagnant water, stuffy and hot.
The men serving their sentences went into battle shirtless, their muscles bulging with veins and dripping with sweat. The collision of the hammer with the rock produced violent sparks that flew everywhere.
Even though Wen Zhiheng was extremely hot, he never took off his clothes. How much happiness could he get from this slight coolness? Only by making an effort to walk out of this dark place could he feel the coolness that was truly refreshing.
His eyes are determined and his mind is clear. He is hiding, and he wants to borrow the ray of light in the darkness to exchange for the glory of the past.
When he saw a group of people surrounding the man in gorgeous clothes and inspecting the place, he knew that his chance had come.
As the man was about to approach, he took a stone with his right hand and placed it on his fingertips. He flicked his fingers lightly and the stone hit the cliff wall. In an instant, a lot of scattered rubble flew into the air and hit the people who were coming.
The scene was extremely chaotic. Wen Zhiheng looked up and saw a slightly larger stone thrown at the nobleman. As soon as he raised his leg to push the man away, the stone hit his shoulder hard. In an instant, blood dyed his shoulders and neck red, and melted with sweat, dripping into the ground.
Wen Zhiheng gritted his teeth and groaned, then asked the person in front of him calmly.
"Are you okay?"
The man's expression was panic-stricken and complicated. Faced with this sudden change, his brows were tightly furrowed, and the black mole in the middle was raised extremely high.
He looked Wen Zhiheng up and down repeatedly, and slowly calmed down.
"Thanks for the rescue."
Wen Zhiheng looked calm and was unmoved by the injury on his shoulder.
Seeing that the man was fine, he calmly withdrew his gaze, stepped back, took back his tools and continued to do his own thing quietly.
A hint of admiration flashed across the nobleman's eyes.
"You are injured. Go back and rest for a few days."
