Chapter 426 Wolves

Lu Yuyan's face turned pale; he had never experienced such a battle before.

Every encounter between the group and the wolf pack was a contest of strength and wisdom, a battle of life and death.

Time seemed to stand still at that moment, the heartbeats of the crowd mingling with the panting of the wolves. Every fight was filled with tension and excitement.

One by one, the wolves fell, blood splattering everywhere. The wolf king stood on high, its gaze growing increasingly ferocious. Suddenly, it howled again, and Lu Xiaoyun and the others realized that the wolf king had indeed called its companions, about a hundred of them.

They were incredibly fast, leaping out from the slopes and bushes and swooping down on them.

Although they had killed many of the first batch of wolves, more wolves pounced on them, and the guards had run out of arrows.

They had no choice but to use a knife to kill them, which meant they had to fight the wolves in close combat, significantly increasing the danger.

They were too few in number, while the wolves were numerous, and besides, they didn't even know if the wolves here were all the wolves on this mountain.

Several of the guards were already wounded, and some had even been torn apart by the wolves' sharp teeth and claws.

The wolf pack seemed to have spotted the weakest link in the group, and three or four wolves pounced on Lu Yuyan.

Although Ayan was also holding a sword, his body was trembling slightly. Facing the wolf that pounced on him, he took a step back in fright, tripped over a dry branch on the ground, and fell to the ground.

Several wolves bared their fangs and claws, preparing to tear this seemingly insignificant but weakling into pieces and devour him.

Lu Yuyan closed his eyes in fright, with only one thought in his mind: it's over, he will never see Ruoling again.

Lu Xiaoyun and Zhu Yu noticed the danger and quickly flew towards Lu Yuyan from both sides. With swift strokes of their knives, the bellies of the three or four wolves flying in mid-air were instantly pierced.

The two men slashed their swords across the wolf's belly, and blood gushed out along with its entrails.

They were all precious swords, incredibly sharp.

The stench of blood and filth quickly filled the air again, mingling with the tense atmosphere.

The wolf pack stopped, and some of the smaller wolves even took a few steps back before the wolf king slapped them with his paw.

The guards were covered in blood, some of it their own, some of it from wolves.

Everyone was panting heavily, tightening their grip on their knives, their eyes fixed on the wolf. They were extremely exhausted, and the only thing keeping them going was their willpower.

But if they can't repel the wolf pack in a short time, and this continues, everyone will die here, leaving no trace.

Lu Xiaoyun stepped forward and pulled Lu Yuyan up from the ground: "Don't be afraid, hold your sword tight!"

"Ah, elder sister..."

"It's alright!" Zhu Yu said firmly.

Just as they were talking, the wolf king howled again, and the wolves that had just stopped, upon hearing the command, launched another attack on them, pouncing over.

The guards quickly joined the battle.

This attack was even more ferocious than the previous one, and it seemed that they had received orders from the wolf king to finish the battle quickly.

Three guards died, and there are still more than a hundred wolves left, which means each person has to face an attack from at least ten wolves.

Dozens of wolves set their sights on Zhu Yu and pounced on him.

Zhu Yu attacked from both sides, calm and collected. With a tearing sound, Zhu Yu took a step back in pain. He was small and thin, and he had been ambushed by a wolf. The wolf's claws left a long gash on his arm.

Blood immediately gushed out.

Lu Xiaoyun dodged the wolf that pounced on her, rushed towards Zhu Yufei, and swung her sword. The wolf whimpered and fell to the ground dead.

The other wolves, seeing this, dared not launch another attack rashly, and instead opened their foul-smelling mouths to spew out waves of stench at them.

Lu Xiaoyun looked at him with concern.

Zhu Yu pulled hard, tearing a piece of cloth from the hem of his clothes and wrapping it tightly around his injured arm. He smiled slightly at her and said, "I'm fine, it doesn't hurt."

After wiping the wolf blood that had just splattered on his face, he picked up his sword and rejoined the battle. On the battlefield, such wounds were practically nothing.

Although the pain was magnified several times because of the woman's body, it was still within his tolerance.

Wolves were constantly being killed and driven back, but there were simply too many wolves. Despite the group's best efforts, it seemed as if the wolves could never be killed off.

Three or four more guards were torn to pieces by the wolves.

"Your Highness, you and the Princess go first! We'll cover your retreat," Jiang Chuan called out to Lu Xiaoyun.

"No! We'll go together, we'll die together!" Lu Xiaoyun replied firmly.

Feng Yan glanced at Qi Yu, who had also been injured by the wolf, and shouted to Lu Yuyan, "Wolves are afraid of fire, use fire to attack!"

Lu Yuyan suddenly realized what was happening, took a deep breath, and understood that if he continued to be afraid, he would only drag everyone down. Fortunately, the rain had not yet started, and they were in the dense forest on the mountain. With the help of the others, he quickly gathered a large pile of dry branches and immediately took out a tinderbox from his pocket.

It hadn't rained for several days, and once the dry branches were ignited, the flames spread rapidly in all directions, shooting into the sky.

Like a fiery dragon dancing in the darkness, the air was filled with smoke and the smell of burning. The firelight illuminated the forest, and the wolves, frightened by the flames, began to scatter in all directions. Their eyes, which had been fierce just moments before, were now filled with fear and despair. Some of the wolves were wounded and stained with blood.

Lu Xiaoyun directed everyone to light torches with tree branches and throw them at the wolf pack.

"Turn up the fire!" Lu Xiaoyun ordered, and everyone threw dry branches into the fire, which then leaped up.

With a casual slash of his sword, Feng Yan sent the wolf's carcass into the fire, where it was quickly engulfed in flames.

One wolf howled to the sky, its voice mournful, and retreated, and the other wolves followed suit.

Enraged, the wolf king swatted the wolf to death with a single swipe of its paw, then let out a long howl, commanding the wolves to attack again.

This time, the wolf king's command had no effect; they retreated in terror, and finally turned and ran away in a frenzy.

In an instant, of the hundred or so wolves that were still alive, only the wolf king remained.

The Wolf Kings revealed their fierce eyes, attempting to pounce and kill, but fearing the fire, they eventually turned and fled.

"Quick! Get down the mountain now!" Zhu Yu shouted.

He observed that this wolf king was quite different. The pack it led should be more than the two hundred or so from before. If it waited for the wolf king to react and brought hundreds more wolves, then they would really be doomed here today.

With the heavy rain about to pour down, the fire will soon be extinguished.

Five guards died, seven horses were killed by wolves, and everyone had been wounded by wolves to varying degrees. They were all veterans who had been on the battlefield. They tore off a cloth to wrap their wounds tightly, and despite their trembling legs from exhaustion, they followed Lu Xiaoyun and Zhu Yu down the mountain.

Finally, after a thrilling battle, everyone arrived safely at the foot of the mountain.
