A maidservant eagerly stepped forward to pour tea.
"The magistrate's wife came here for the soap in the shop."
"Soap? What is that? I didn't see it on the first floor earlier."
Madam Zhou asked anxiously, "Do they also want to see the things that the county magistrate's wife has?"
"Having heard that Madam is here, it would be impolite not to pay my respects. Could you please help me inquire about her situation?"
The other lady's eyes darted around. She had come specifically to see the magistrate's wife; seeing the person was the most important thing.
"I could ask if the madam would like to see her..."
"That's good then, go and ask."
If I could meet her once, show my face in front of the magistrate's wife, and appear a few more times, wouldn't I become familiar with her?
The maid quickly turned back.
"The lady said that this was a private matter and she did not want to make a big fuss about it, so she disappeared."
The three girls' expectations were dashed, but just then, the white jade cake arrived, which soothed their depressed hearts.
This time it was different from before. Instead of one portion and three portions, each of the three people got one portion. They were very satisfied to see that the whole piece was theirs.
With their appetites satisfied, the maidservants took the opportunity to serve them peach blossom soap and mint honeysuckle soap.
"This is the soap that the magistrate's wife bought from our Rouge Hall. It leaves a fragrance on the skin and is very presentable whether for personal use or as a gift."
"oh?!"
"This is a trial pack; the three ladies may try it."
Inside the private room was a basin filled with water, and next to it was a small piece of pink soap.
Madam Zhou stepped forward first, and following the maid's guidance, washed her hands, rubbed the small piece of soap in her hands a couple of times, and then began to rub her hands together, creating foam in an instant.
"Could this be a bath bean?!"
"Madam has a good eye, but our soap is different from bath soap, although both are used for cleaning."
"Oh dear, Sister Zhou's hands are so dirty!"
Madam Zhou was actually quite embarrassed. She had never used bath beans before and usually paid close attention to her personal hygiene, so her hands looked quite clean.
After rubbing it a few times, she actually managed to wash away quite a bit of dirt, which made her so embarrassed that she quickly rinsed it off in the water.
The previously clear water has become somewhat murky.
Madam Zhou instantly felt humiliated in front of the two men, and was feeling extremely distressed, as if ants were gnawing at her heart.
"Sister Zhou, your hands are so fair!"
One person looked at Madam Zhou's dried hands, which were even whiter than before.
"Not only that, it really smells like peach blossoms!"
Seeing the two people's delighted expressions, Madam Zhou suppressed her embarrassment and carefully examined her hands.
Sure enough, just as the two had said, her hands had previously been yellowish-white, but now that yellowish tinge was gone. She could smell the peach blossom fragrance even without bringing her hands to her nose.
Mrs. Zhou was overjoyed.
"How much is this peach blossom soap?"
Madam Zhou initially wanted to buy it directly, but when she thought of the one hundred taels of silver required for entry, she immediately chickened out.
"Three taels of silver per piece."
Madam Zhou was relieved. It was only three taels of silver, which she could certainly afford. With such efficacy and strength, selling it for three taels of silver was practically a bargain for her.
"I want to buy one too!"
"I want ten yuan!"
"Ladies, the amount of peach blossoms used in peach blossom soap is extremely large; it takes a thousand peach blossoms to make just one bar of soap. Therefore, peach blossom soap is purchased in limited quantities, and each distinguished guest can only buy five bars at present."
"Okay, I'll buy five."
None of the three wanted to buy less. Having witnessed the power of the peach blossom soap, how could they bear not to buy some? After all, bath beans were several times more expensive than this peach blossom soap.
The next item, the mint and honeysuckle soap, was an absolute must-buy. The three of them placed an order after only a quick look, knowing that any leftovers could be given away as gifts, which was perfectly acceptable.
The other two, having witnessed Madam Zhou's commotion, absolutely refused to wash their hands with soap there.
Then I remembered that Manager Zhang had said earlier that the store would only give out fifty membership slots.
"Rouge Hall only has fifty membership slots, does that mean only fifty people can come in to eat white jade cakes and buy soap?"
“Madam is right. These items are only sold to our members and VIPs at Rouge Hall.”
Upon hearing the maid's affirmative answer, the three no longer felt like they had been scammed. Almost instantly, all three realized the true value of the membership.
"If the number of people reaches fifty, outsiders won't be able to buy them even if they want to?"
"Yes, others can only enter through the introduction of a distinguished guest of Rouge Hall."
The three felt as refreshed as if they had drunk ice water on a hot summer day or found a brazier on a cold winter day. This membership was definitely worth it.
There were only a few guests on the first day. On the second day, Madam Cao also came with Cao Ying. After all, it was the Li family's shop, so how could they not come to support them?
Madam Cao and Cao Ying also received identity tokens from the shop, which Li Qingzhang paid for; even brothers should keep clear accounts.
I thought that only a very small number of people would become members, after all, there can't be a large number of fools with money to burn.
To everyone's surprise, in the following days, people started coming to the door to apply for the membership card.
In less than seven days, Li's Rouge Hall opened its doors. The fifty memberships were already full, and the store's limited capacity prevented it from accommodating more distinguished guests, so it stopped accepting new members.
Unexpectedly, there were not just many fools with money, but so many! Outsiders were utterly astonished.
It was around this time that news about the soap slowly began to circulate.
When the women of wealthy families in Shaoguan County went out to meet guests, they would sit together and talk about things like white jade cakes or scented soaps, and they could never avoid mentioning the Li family's Rouge Hall.
Have you signed up for a membership?
"It's done, it's done. How could we not do it? We have to do it for the sake of the white jade cake."
"It has to be soap. Smell it, the scent of mint and honeysuckle is wonderful."
