Chapter 167 Cold and aloof empress vs. spoiled concubine 15

After Li Yunyan returned to Chuxiu Palace, she was about to enter the room when Meng Qingyu stopped her.

What are you doing?

Upon seeing her enemy, Li Yunyan's expression was somewhat impatient, just like her usual temper.

With a gentle and generous smile on her face, Meng Qingyu familiarly took Li Yunyan's arm and said in a low voice, "Sister Yan'er, it's been a long time since we sisters have chatted. Won't you invite me in for a seat?"

Ha, coming uninvited, it probably doesn't mean anything good!

Li Yunyan subtly pulled her hand away and said in a calm tone, "Come in!"

She lived alone. There was only one bed in the room. The gentle sunset shone in through the window, casting a soft golden light on the furnishings and giving the small room a delicate feel, like a young girl's boudoir.

A hint of jealousy flashed in Meng Qingyu's eyes.

They only need to stay in Chuxiu Palace for a month, so why is Li Yunyan's room decorated so exquisitely?

Why does Li Yunyan always have to be one step ahead of her?

Is it the same outside the palace, and is it the same inside the palace?

Even her brother Zian can't forget her!

Thinking of her purpose, Meng Qingyu's jealousy intensified, and her fingers, hidden in her sleeve, clenched painfully.

"Please sit down!"

Li Yunyan walked to the shelf in the corner, carefully washed her hands, and then dried them with a clean silk handkerchief. Then she sat down in the chair at the table, picked up the teapot on the table, and poured herself a cup of tea.

The tea was still hot, clearly prepared specifically for her just as she was about to return.

The rising steam cast wisps of heat, making her annoying little face appear and disappear. She languidly sipped her tea, then picked up a delicate pastry and put it in her mouth, her eyes comfortably squinting.

Her quality of life remained unchanged; she was still the pampered young lady from the Prime Minister's mansion.

Meng Qingyu took a deep breath, her voice a little stiff, "Sister Yan'er is living a really comfortable life, unlike us, who are so busy all day long that we're exhausted, how can we have the leisure to drink tea and eat snacks!"

"Since you're tired, Sister Meng, you should go and rest! Your health is the most important thing!" Li Yunyan said, taking another sip of tea.

Having met with a cold shoulder, Meng Qingyu cursed inwardly, "That little bitch Li Yunyan has really grown bold!" She used to speak without mincing words, so how could she have uttered such sarcastic remarks?

"Sister, what are you saying? You go out every afternoon, I'm sure Aunt Jiang has assigned you some work, and it's quite a task! Sister, you must take care of yourself!"

Li Yunyan knew that she wanted to find out what she had done in the afternoon, so she raised an eyebrow and continued eating her snacks.

"If you are thirsty, sister, the tea in this pot is still hot. Please help yourself."

Meng Qingyu was speechless again. After thanking her, she still got up and poured herself a glass, as she was indeed a little thirsty.

She had just taken a sip when she realized that this tea was different from the tea they usually drank; it was actually the finest Mengding Ganlu!

Mengding Ganlu is a tribute tea, and the amount offered to the emperor each year is extremely limited. Her father was fortunate enough to be rewarded with a little bit by the emperor two years ago, and he still hasn't been able to finish it!

Now they've actually appeared in a concubine's room!

Meng Qingyu is angry again. Li Yunyan really has a good father!

She didn't want to get close to Li Yunyan anymore, lest she anger herself even more.

He pulled a thin envelope from his sleeve and placed it on the table, saying reluctantly, "This is a letter from Young Master Wen to you!"

"Wen Zi'an?" Li Yunyan's expression was one of disdain. "Why is he writing to me?"

Seeing her impatient expression, Meng Qingyu finally believed that it was Wen Zi'an who liked Li Yunyan, not the other way around.

A dull ache lingered in her heart. Why did her brother Zian say he would marry her, yet he was so attentive and ingratiating towards another woman?

Thinking of the letter her brother Zian wrote to her, and the silver notes that were sent with it, Meng Qingyu felt better.

Even though Zian cared deeply for Li Yunyan, he only wrote her a letter and didn't send her anything else.

Brother Zian may be a bit of a womanizer, but in his heart, he can still distinguish between what is important and what is not.

Li Yunyan can never compare to her!

Meng Qingyu composed her expression and said with a forced smile, "Young Master Wen said that he came to see you last time, but for some reason, he could no longer get in, so he wrote you a letter."

She pushed the letter toward Li Yunyan, offering words of comfort like a caring older sister: "Sister Yan'er, the palace is nice, but it can't compare to being outside! You're naturally lively, and the palace has many rules; after a while, you'll inevitably feel bored. If you could find a way to leave the palace, with your family background, you'd definitely have a smooth and easy life, and you could see your parents and relatives often. Wouldn't that be wonderful?"

Listening to her high-sounding words, Li Yunyan chuckled inwardly. "Sister Meng, are you perhaps here to act as an intermediary for Wen Zi'an? Why would he hand the letter to you? What is your relationship?"

A look of panic flashed in Meng Qingyu's eyes. She knew Li Yunyan's personality. If Li Yunyan knew that she would become Zian's concubine in the future, she would never obediently comply!

What relationship do we have?

Meng Qingyu chuckled dryly and said, "It's just that my mother and Young Master Wen's mother are very close friends. I happen to be with you now, so he asked me to pass it on."

"Oh, I see!"

Li Yunyan only just realized that their two families' mothers were old friends! No wonder Wen Zi'an married Meng Qingyu in the original story!
