Li Yunyan glanced at Shen Fengxian every now and then, looking nervous, excited, and incredulous.
Sensing her gaze, a hint of mockery flashed in Shen Fengxian's eyes, knowing that she was overjoyed!
Oh.
Did she really think he was going to consummate their marriage?
That's wishful thinking!
He concealed the emotions in his eyes, reached out and placed a piece of Five-Flavor Almond Cheese Goose on her plate, his voice gentle, "Madam, this dish is quite good, please try it!"
Li Yunyan's eyes showed just the right amount of flattery, and she nodded with red eyes, "Thank you, husband!"
"My lady, there's no need for you to be so polite with your husband!"
He suppressed his resistance and quickly squeezed her hand, saying, "We're husband and wife, it's only right that I treat you well!"
"Husband..." Her hand trembled, and she looked like she was about to cry.
I was disgusted.
Seeing how inseparable the two of them were, Chen's mother was no longer as disgusted as before.
It's a good thing that her son and daughter-in-law have a good relationship! Maybe her grandson will be born sooner!
After spending the New Year's Eve together, Li Yunyan and Shen Fengxian left side by side.
Reaching the halfway point, Shen Fengxian, carrying a lantern, reverted to his usual aloofness. "Madam, I have urgent business to attend to. I'll be going to my study now!"
Li Yunyan didn't stop him, her face still bearing her usual gentle smile, "Husband's official duties are important, go and get busy!"
"Um."
He nodded and turned to leave.
Seeing him leave, Dongyun let out a soft scoff.
The son-in-law acted all respectable in front of the old lady, but in private he was cold to his young mistress!
It's all just a pretty face!
Her daughter has truly suffered by marrying such a two-faced son-in-law!
Halfway there, Li Yunyan took the wine jar from Dong Yun's hand. This was something she had specially asked her to prepare.
"You go back first! It's New Year's Eve today, I'm going to see Chen Que!"
"Miss! I'll go with you!"
That won't do!
Shen Fengxian's plan is clearly about to begin, and she also needs to hurry up and win over Shen Que to see if she can turn the tables on him.

When the knocking sounded, Shen Que jumped up!
That knocking sound was so familiar! Two soft knocks, gentle and slow, just like her.
He quickly dusted off his robes and opened the door with great joy.
Sure enough, she was standing outside the door!
She smiled sweetly, her beautiful eyes sparkling, and looked at him with tenderness.
Li Yunyan raised the wine jar in her hand, her voice gentle and slightly sweet, "Chen Que, Happy New Year!"
Chen Que's eyes lit up instantly!
He heard his heartbeat getting faster and faster, his mind went blank, and he even forgot to call out to anyone.
He stared blankly at her as she walked into the courtyard, then into his house, and put down the wine jar she was holding.
He only snapped out of his reverie when he heard the wine jar hit the table.
Only then did they realize that Dongyun hadn't come along.
He casually closed the courtyard gate, his ears burning slightly, a flutter of excitement welling up inside him.
"Sister-in-law."
He stood behind her and spoke in a low voice.
Li Yunyan had already sat down at the table. Looking at the cold and deserted state of his room, she asked, "It's New Year's Eve today. What did you eat for dinner?"
Shen Que was taken aback.
During this time, she didn't come over. He read day and night and didn't realize that today was New Year's Eve.
He ate something quick outside and came back today.
So, was his sister-in-law worried that he was lonely and came to see him on purpose?
A secret joy welled up in his heart, tugging at the boy's soul.
She replied gently, "Don't worry, sister-in-law, I've already eaten out!"
Li Yunyan sighed softly, "It must be so hard on you! Eating out during the New Year! How about I talk to the kitchen and ask them to prepare your meals and bring them to your yard from now on?"
"No need, sister-in-law!" Shen Que refused without even thinking.
Worried that Li Yunyan might misunderstand him, he added, "I'm eating out, and it's fine! I'm at home... I hope the old lady won't notice me!"
Li Yunyan poured two glasses of wine and gestured for him to sit down and talk.
She pushed a wine glass toward him, "Have a little bit, it'll warm you up!"
Shen Que accepted it with both hands, "Thank you, sister-in-law!"
Li Yunyan took a sip of wine and asked, "You're supposed to be a member of the Shen family, after all. With the old lady treating you like this, haven't you ever thought about resisting?"
Chen Que's eyes flickered.
"Yes," he said calmly.
Their eyes met, and Li Yunyan saw obvious hatred and ambition in his eyes.
"However, before I have sufficient strength, any further resistance will only be a desperate struggle!"
As he spoke these words, his dark brown eyes were bright and clear, and his handsome and clean face carried the youthful spirit of not compromising with reality, yet also concealed a sharpness like a knife.
This precious sword, though still unsheathed, is already almost unable to conceal its sharpness.
Li Yunyan nodded, "I believe in you! Even a dragon trapped in shallow waters will one day soar to the sky!"
He raised his glass, "Thank you for your kind words, sister-in-law!"
Li Yunyan clinked glasses with him, "Then I'll wait for you to pass the imperial examination with flying colors and become my support!"
Shen Que looked at her, his gaze no longer evasive as before, but rather deep and unfathomable.
