When Xie Lang woke up, he was in a noisy classroom.
The clothes of the people around him were unfamiliar to him; they were strange, with exposed arms and legs. They were definitely not from the dynasty he lived in, but rather more like the modern era that Wen Heming had told him about.
He had only taken a nap and ended up here. Xie Lang felt a little uneasy, but his years of experience as an emperor kept him calm and he began to observe the people around him without making a sound.
I wonder if the Grand Tutor came with him.
As Xie Lang's thoughts drifted, a person walked into the classroom and went straight to the podium. The person spoke in a gentle yet firm voice: "Hello everyone, I am a graduate student under Professor Jiang. Professor Jiang has something come up today, so I will be temporarily filling in for this class. My surname is Wen, and you can call me Senior Wen."
A familiar voice.
Xie Lang suddenly looked up, his pupils contracted, and sure enough, he saw a familiar figure on the podium.
Wen Heming wore a sky-blue long dress, her slightly curled long hair cascading over her shoulders. Even with a strange-looking thing on her face, it did not conceal her beauty at all; instead, it added a touch of cool elegance, making her so exquisite that it was impossible to look away.
As Xie Lang looked at her, her gaze also turned towards Xie Lang.
Their eyes met, and she gave a gentle, slightly reassuring smile.
"What's wrong, Brother Xie? Are you stunned?"
Someone nudged his arm, their voice excited: "I heard that senior is Professor Jiang's last student, with excellent grades, beautiful looks, and a nice personality, but her health isn't very good... I didn't expect her to substitute for us this time!"
Xie Lang seemed to be thinking: "...Hmm."
Sure enough, his tutor excelled wherever he went.
He didn't know what the situation was, but as long as Wen Hemian came with him, he could rest assured.
Xie Lang did have some basic knowledge about this world in his mind, but other than that, he had no other memories. He could understand some things through a few words from his current deskmate and roommate.
This university clearly has an excellent academic atmosphere. Even in elective courses, everyone is very serious. In addition, Wen Hemian is a good lecturer, speaking in a calm and unhurried manner. As you listen, you become completely absorbed.
The class passed uneventfully.
Wen Hemian packed her things and left the classroom ahead of everyone else.
With no classes in the afternoon, Xie Lang declined his roommate's invitation to play basketball, got up, and walked through the crowd to chase after Wen Hemian.
However, the crowds after class were too large, and he lost sight of his target as soon as he went out. In the vast crowd, a sense of bewilderment and panic suddenly arose in his heart.
Does the Grand Tutor not remember him?
"stupid."
Then a hand patted his shoulder, and a familiar voice sounded beside him: "Here."
Turning around, she met Wen Heming's smiling eyes, bright and clear.
"I haven't gone far at all. I don't know why you're in such a panic. Do you think I could have run away?"
Seeing the younger version of His Majesty after so long, Wen Hemian was a little emotional. He was so young, but his eyes had a maturity and composure that was not typical for his age.
Xie Lang couldn't help but feel a little wronged: "I was afraid you would leave."
Arriving in this unfamiliar world, Xie Lang had never lived here before. Even with common sense in his mind, he felt rootless. Only by finding Wen Hemian did he find his home and suddenly feel at ease.
Seeing through his thoughts, Wen Hemian chuckled, but also felt a pang of sympathy.
But this was really not a good place to talk, with students passing by every now and then after class, so Wen Hemian simply took his hand and said, "Come with me."
A moment later, the two sat down at a coffee shop outside the school.
The small cubicle is just the right amount of private space.
"Just arrived here?" Wen Hemian smiled and pushed the coffee in front of her towards him. "Try it."
Xie Lang took a sip and frowned: "...Hmm."
He immediately realized something was wrong: "Hanshuang, how long have you been here?"
“Not long, seven days earlier than you.” Wen Hemian smiled, her gaze as gentle as ever. She softly reassured her, “Don’t worry, I know this place well. It’s not that we can’t go back, we just need to stay here for a while.”
Xie Lang stared at her blankly.
It has to be said that Wen Hemian is still Wen Hemian, the person he knows well. She could see the unease in his heart, which is why she chose to say that.
“Okay,” he said.
"Alright, if you don't like it, then don't drink it." Wen Hemian found it amusing that he reluctantly took another sip of coffee. "Give it to me."
She didn't waste any; she finished the rest of her coffee in one gulp.
Under the boy's burning gaze, he smiled and suggested, "You don't have class this afternoon, right? How about we go out for a walk?"
Xie Lang shook his head: "No."
Even though he didn't say it, they knew each other so well that Wen Hemian could easily tell that he was very curious about the world and, since he finally had the opportunity, he naturally wanted to show His Majesty the Emperor a good experience of modern life.
Xie Lang readily agreed.
Everything in the new world was new and exciting for His Majesty the Emperor.
What he remembered was different from what he saw with his own eyes. As they walked along the road, Wen Heming introduced the sights to him.
“Those vehicles on the road are cars. With modern technology, traveling a thousand miles a day is no longer a problem. In addition, there are high-speed rail and airplanes, which are also very convenient modes of transportation.”
Wen Hemian had lived in the modern world for over twenty years, so a week was enough for her to adapt. She thought that was why she was asked to come first; otherwise, it would be too awkward if the two of them were completely lost.
"Indeed, it's very convenient."
Just by looking at it, Xie Lang realized just how different this world was from the world they lived in.
“But it’s alright.” Wen Hemian took his hand and squeezed it gently. “The achievements of future generations are built upon the wisdom of our predecessors. We have done what we could. Doing our best and leaving the rest to fate is enough.”
Wen Hemian was actually a little worried that Xie Lang wouldn't be able to accept this kind of change.
“I know, Han Shuang, you don’t need to emphasize these things to me.”
Xie Lang was not as fragile as Wen Hemian had imagined. After all, he was the ruler of a country and understood that most things in this world could not be forced.
This place is good, but the Dazhao Kingdom, which they built little by little, is also good.
Xie Lang lowered his voice with a hint of curiosity: "Isn't this... the world you used to live in?"
“No.” Wen Hemian shook her head, leaned closer and whispered to him, “But it’s very similar. Our experiences were probably simulated by the system, so whether it is or not isn’t a big problem.”
Most importantly, she had no more attachments in her original world.
Wen Heming suddenly felt a pang of sadness, and she smiled slightly: "As long as you're here, this is our home."
Xie Lang felt a pang of tenderness and wanted to lean in and kiss her, but was suddenly blocked by the glasses she was wearing.
Wen Hemian was taken aback at first, then couldn't help but laugh out loud: "I almost forgot about that. It's just for show, it doesn't have a prescription."
As she spoke, she took off her glasses and put them on Xie Lang's face.
It's a unisex style, and it fits Xie Lang perfectly.
