Chapter 82 Am I less important than Shen Jin?
Shen Jin felt something flash through his mind, seemingly fragments of memory. His entire head began to throb, making it unbearable. Soon after, sweat beaded on his face, and his complexion turned pale.
"...Wh-what's wrong?" Rong Lan was stunned, unable to understand what was wrong with him. He was perfectly fine not long ago, full of energy and vitality. How could he suddenly be like this?
"I...I don't know..." Shen Jin was somewhat bewildered, his throat was dry, and he seemed to have difficulty speaking, stammering, "I...I..."
He didn't know what he wanted to say, or what he wanted to say, but his chest felt like it was blocked by something, making him very uncomfortable, as if something was about to burst out of the ground.
On the other end of the phone, Rong's mother seemed to pause for a moment before asking, "Are you feeling unwell?"
Upon hearing that voice, Shen Jin felt as if it were filled with magic, uncontrollably drilling into his head. It was so familiar and so nostalgic, and at the same time... his head was throbbing with pain.
Rong Lan stared blankly at him, blinked, and saw that this person, who had been lively and energetic not long ago, suddenly had red eyes, as if he was struggling with something, and was muttering something to himself.
After a moment of stunned silence, Rong Lan quickly asked, "What did you say?"
"I...I don't know, don't ask..." Shen Jin answered through gritted teeth, shaking his head painfully, trying to shake off some images in his mind, but the pain almost made him fall.
Rong Lan was beside him and hurriedly reached out to support him. Before she could say anything, she saw Shen Jin suddenly clutch his head, his eyes were very red, and he collapsed onto the sofa, losing consciousness.
"Hey?!" Rong Lan was startled by his inexplicable reaction. Not knowing what was wrong with him, she quickly reached out and patted his face. "Wake up, what's wrong?"
Rong's mother also sensed something was wrong and hurriedly asked, "What...what's wrong with him?"
Rong Lan patted Shen Jin's face, but he still didn't feel anything. Then she replied, "I don't know. He was lively and energetic not long ago. Just now, his eyes suddenly turned red, and he seemed to be in a lot of pain. Then he fainted."
There was Luo Zheng, who had been stabbed and knocked unconscious, and now there's Shen Jin. And this person is so strange; it's unclear whether it's because he has some kind of pre-existing condition or for some other reason.
Rong's mother said, "Then quickly call a doctor to check him out, to see if he's feeling unwell. This can't be delayed, so don't worry about me for now."
Rong Lan hummed in agreement, hung up the phone with her first, then leaned over to check on Shen Jin's condition, feeling his breathing. He was fine, with no other symptoms besides suddenly fainting.
"Could it be that he was stimulated by something?" Rong Lan muttered, frowning slightly. He felt that it was not impossible, after all, he and Luo Zheng had gone through a life-or-death escape, it was impossible to say that there was no stimulation.
It seemed to be a false alarm, so Rong Lan breathed a sigh of relief and had someone help him to the guest room to sleep, thinking that he should be fine when he woke up tomorrow.
Tonight will be another sleepless night for many.
Shen Jin felt as if he were trapped in a long dream, as if he were seeing some past memories. They weren't very clear, but the feeling was exceptionally strong. In his dream, he choked out, "Mom..."
A tear rolled down his cheek, and the sound faded into the empty room where he was all alone. No one heard it, and no one saw it.
Rong Lan originally thought that Luo Zheng would probably not wake up the next day, but who knew that this person was so resilient that he got up in the morning. Apart from being a little pale, he looked fine.
"You woke up so quickly." Rong Lan said with some surprise, idly passing the time on her phone, then glanced at him a few more times, "Is there anything else that's bothering you?"
"It's nothing," Luo Zheng glanced down at the gauze on his lower abdomen, where he could still see some bloodstains, but he breathed a sigh of relief knowing that as long as he took good care of himself, he would be fine. "Thank you."
"It's nothing." Rong Lan casually looked away, then tapped the phone screen idly, seemingly playing a game.
However, Luo Zheng didn't have time to care whether he was playing games or what. She looked around and, not finding Shen Jin, gasped slightly: "Where...where is he?"
"Huh?" Rong Lan didn't react for a moment, after all, Luo Zheng rarely really cared about someone. "Oh, him? He's fine, he's sleeping in another room, he hasn't woken up yet."
Luo Zheng breathed a slight sigh of relief upon hearing his words, but as soon as he did, he felt Rong Lan's ambiguous gaze fall upon him, his smile seemingly intriguing.
"Wh...what's wrong?" Luo Zheng was stunned, not knowing why he was looking at her like that, and touched her face uncomfortably. "Why are you staring at me like that?"
He had known Rong Lan for many years, and now he felt a little uncomfortable under Rong Lan's teasing gaze.
"It's nothing." Rong Lan looked away and smiled. "But why did you get so disheveled?"
Upon hearing this question, Luo Zheng's face instantly darkened, as if it were covered with ice shards. She said in a deep voice, "Don't mention it. Of course, I was ambushed and then chased down to be killed and silenced, leaving no trace."
"Who are you? Young Master Luo? Who dares to be so bold?" Rong Lan asked in a teasing tone, looking nonchalant as he continued to tap on the screen with his fingertips.
Luo Zheng leaned against the pillow and gave a cold laugh: "In the capital, who do you think has such a cruel heart?"
There are three major families in the capital: the Rong family, the Luo family, and the Duan family. The current head of the Duan family, Duan Yi, is only twenty-four years old, making him the youngest head of the three families. He is also a ruthless and vicious person.
Rong Lan turned to look at him: "Why would Duan Yi have the idea of killing you?"
Luo Zheng scoffed, "There can be many reasons. Anyway, you know how vicious that person is. Maybe that's how the Duan family passes down their skills from generation to generation. They made their move while I was in City A. Did they want me to die here?"
"And then what?" Rong Lan asked.
A cold glint appeared in Luo Zheng's eyes as she gritted her teeth and said, "Settle accounts with him!"
“You have no evidence whatsoever, this is pure nonsense.” Rong Lan spoke, her tone still calm and undisturbed. “Duan Yi doesn’t leave any evidence or handles behind his actions.”
Luo Zheng sneered, "The Duan family are all the same, just like back then..."
At this point, Luo Zheng realized she had said something inappropriate, swallowed the rest of her words, and muttered under her breath, "Bastard."
Luo Zheng originally wanted to say that his current situation was similar to that of his brother back then. First he disappeared, then he died without a complete body... leaving no evidence, only the beads he wore on his wrist were scattered all over the ground, stained with blood.
However, that was many years ago, and he knew it wasn't appropriate to say it in front of Rong Lan. He could only sigh softly and try to get out of bed: "I'd better go see Chen Jin."
He couldn't rest easy until he saw the Ashen One.
Rong Lan raised an eyebrow but didn't stop him. She just asked, "You just got stitches, and you're planning to jump around all day? Aren't you afraid it will tear again?"
Luo Zheng wanted to say she was fine, but as soon as she moved, she aggravated her wound. She could only gasp and obediently lie back on the bed. Under Rong Lan's unyielding laughter, she said helplessly, "Let him come over when he wakes up. I'll check if he's alright."
“Okay, he’ll come without me having to call him,” Rong Lan said. “But how do you treat him? Like he’s your little lover.”
The second half of the sentence caused Luo Zheng's expression to change slightly: "Don't talk nonsense."
Rong Lan just smiled and said, "Alright, lie down and rest. I'll have someone bring you some food. Eat your fill first."
Just as he was about to turn and leave, Luo Zheng suddenly remembered something and hurriedly called out from behind him, "Wait, do you know anyone who has heard of 'Xie Li'?"
"Huh?" Rong Lan turned to look at him, somewhat puzzled, and asked without changing her expression, "What is Xie Li? I've never heard of him."
“Oh right, how would you know if you're always abroad?” Luo Zheng sighed softly. “Could you check for me? I think I vaguely remember.”
Luo Zheng seemed to have some recollection of it, as if she had heard someone mention it, related to someone, perhaps someone the other person... liked? However, Luo Zheng wasn't interested in such matters of love and romance, so she didn't pay any attention to it.
While they were chatting, Shen Jin still showed no signs of waking up. He felt as if he had fallen into a dream and had not woken up for a long time.
Xie Li, however, woke up in the hospital. After all, he had been pretending for a whole day, and he felt he would go crazy if he didn't wake up soon.
When he woke up and saw Yan Yu beside him, he pretended to be surprised and paused for a moment, then laughed self-deprecatingly, as if asking him in a fit of pique, "What are you doing here?"
Yan Yu ignored his displeased words and simply said, "Now that you're awake, wash up and eat something to fill your stomach."
Xie Li, however, kept a sullen face and said unhappily, "I'm not eating. Where's Chen Jin? Have you found him yet?"
"Not yet." Yan Yu frowned.
"Then just go find him, don't worry about me. In your heart, I'm just someone who drove him away..." Xie Li seemed to have suffered a great injustice, her eyes instantly reddening, and she choked up, "Why do you see me like that? Didn't you see how good I was to him back then?"
Perhaps his crying was too convincing, and Yan Yu didn't know how to respond for a moment. Then he sighed softly, knowing that such emotional fluctuations were bad for his health, and said, "Calm down first."
Xie Li, her eyes red, choked out as she shouted, "Calm down? How can you expect me to calm down! Don't you know what kind of person I am? In your heart... am I less important than Shen Jin?"
