Chapter 139 Yan Yu Wins the Heart of His Beauty
The wind by the lake was quite strong, rustling the grass and leaves and making their hair fly wildly.
Looking from Yan Yu's direction, he could only see Shen Jin's back, while Luo Zheng stood in front of him, her head slightly lowered, like a couple on a date, one of them kissing the other, the atmosphere between them just right.
In the warm and ambiguous atmosphere between the two, Yan Yu felt like an outsider, completely out of place with them.
Yan Yu stood stiffly in place, his already pale face turning even whiter, all color drained from his skin. Suddenly, he looked like a lost child, bewildered and helpless, yet carrying a deep-seated pain.
He desperately wanted to rush up to Luo Zheng, grab her, and beat her up to vent his anger.
But his feet wouldn't obey him, frozen in place, he just stared at them silently, even though it stung his eyes, he just tormented himself, never looking away for a moment.
"Shen Jin..." Yan Yu called out his name in a voice only he could hear. The smell of blood immediately filled the air, and the pain from biting his lip kept him somewhat rational.
The two people on the lake were completely unaware that someone was watching them. When Yan Yu saw that the two of them had separated, Luo Zheng seemed a little embarrassed, while Shen Jin asked with a smile, "Is it sweet?"
Luo Zheng slightly avoided his gaze, then smiled, looked at the calm lake surface, and slowly replied, "Sweet."
Hearing this response, Shen Jin smiled happily, tilting his head slightly like a child, and chuckled twice: "I think it's sweet too! I love it!"
His voice was soft and sweet, and Yan Yu would probably have liked it under different circumstances, but at this moment it pierced his ears, and his heart felt as if it had been wounded by a sharp weapon, slowly being crushed, leaving only a clear sense of pain spreading.
Yan Yu reached for his left chest, silently scratching it a few times. He lowered his eyes slightly, the corners of his eyes slightly red. He thought that scratching it would soothe the pain, but to his surprise, it had no effect whatsoever…
While having a great time, Shen Jin wondered if he was being too sensitive, but he felt like someone was watching him. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Yan Yu and their eyes met.
Shen Jin was taken aback. He saw Yan Yu move his lips sadly and call his name, which made his heart skip a beat. Then he ignored it and said to Luo Zheng as if nothing had happened, "Let's... go play over there."
Luo Zheng didn't notice Yan Yu's presence. When she heard Shen Jin say that, she nodded with a smile and said, "Okay, whatever you say."
The two laughed and walked away, leaving Yan Yu alone, helplessly watching them leave.
He clearly saw that when Shen Jin turned around, that icy gaze, so real it seemed, pierced his already aching heart, leaving it riddled with holes...
Even the last shred of his dignity seemed to have vanished. He was no longer the aloof CEO, but rather like someone who had been abandoned. He moved his lips slightly: "Don't go... stay..."
Unfortunately, he had already gone far away, and his voice was too soft. With just a gentle breeze, his faint voice disappeared into the air. No one heard it, and no one stopped for him.
As Luo Zheng walked to the other side with Shen Jin, she pointed to the boats by the lake and smiled at Shen Jin beside her: "By the way, there are small boats over there that you can row. Just pay and you'll be fine. Do you want to try it out?"
"Huh?" Shen Jin was taken aback. He had been so distracted that he hadn't heard what he said clearly. He was still holding the unfinished candied hawthorn in his hand. Not long ago, he had made Luo Zheng bend down and eat one.
So when did Yan Yu arrive? Did he see him just now?
When this thought surfaced in his mind, Shen Jin's lips twitched slightly, and he couldn't help but let out a sound, feeling that he was simply being unreasonable.
Let him see if he wants to, it's none of his business. Why think so much? It's just bad luck.
He looked so pale just now, in such a bad state. I wonder if it was because he was out partying with Xie Li too late. He looked like a ghost. Doesn't he care about exhausting himself to death?
After thinking about it in his mind and feeling disgusted with himself, Shen Jin became much calmer and more composed. He felt that the right thing to do was to put everything about him and him out of his mind and ignore it.
Shen Jin lowered his head and took a bite of a candied hawthorn. It still tasted sweet. Then he turned to Luo Zheng and smiled, "Okay, let's go play. It looks like a lot of fun."
Luo Zheng smiled and led him to the shopkeeper. After paying, the two of them boarded the small boat, which had oars so they could paddle themselves.
"Let's play a little longer and then head back. It's getting a bit windy outside, and you haven't fully recovered yet, so it's not good for you to be out in the wind for too long," Luo Zheng said with a smile as she rowed the boat. "By the way, are you hungry? Do you want to eat something later?"
"Okay...okay." Shen Jin smiled, never once glancing in Yan Yu's direction, completely ignoring him, and only chatting with Luo Zheng and rowing the boat for a while.
Yan Yu was like a supporting character, seemingly only able to watch the main characters get along so well from the shadows. Apart from laughable jealousy and envy, he didn't know what to do.
He recalled how Shen Jin used to smile at him, but now it seemed as if all of that had vanished, or perhaps it had all been given to someone else.
Xie Li appeared out of nowhere, suddenly standing beside him. She reached out and gently touched him, whispering, "A-Yu..."
Yan Yu took a deep breath and closed his eyes. Even though his disheveled appearance had been seen by others many times, he still wanted to maintain a tiny bit of his dignity.
"Why are you doing this..." Xie Li sighed dramatically, glanced in the direction where Shen Jin and the others were, and looked at Yan Yu with some concern, "It hurts me to see you like this..."
Yan Yu found his voice annoying, so he started walking, heading in the same direction as Shen Jin who was rowing away. However, the path he was on was shaded by trees, so Shen Jin probably couldn't see him.
"Tsk, what's wrong with your brain?" Xie Li muttered under his breath, staring at his retreating figure. He glanced at the ashes reflected in the lake, a wicked glint in his eyes. "You finally decided to leave the hospital..."
Xie Li followed, walking beside Yan Yu and saying, "Where are you going? Why are you walking so fast?"
Yan Yu really didn't want to talk to him, and he didn't want to see him either. He bit his tongue to suppress the urge to curse, and squeezed out a few words through gritted teeth: "Don't talk to me."
In that instant, Xie Li seemed to sense the killing intent emanating from him, which made him pause slightly, his face turning pale. He was intimidated by him and temporarily stopped in his tracks.
As Shen Jin, who was rowing with Luo Zheng on the lake, was about to reach the shore, he glanced casually in the direction of Yan Yu. The lake was empty; the person who had been staring at him with a pale face was gone.
Luo Zheng noticed his subtle emotions, pursed her lips, and asked softly, "What are you looking at?"
"Haha, it's nothing really, just taking a look around." Shen Jin casually withdrew his gaze, shrugged, glanced at the direction of the rowing boat, and said with a smile, "We're almost at the lake."
Xie Li followed closely behind Yan Yu. Suddenly, his eyes darted around, and he let out a startled "Ah!" As Yan Yu turned around, he pounced on him and hugged him tightly.
Before Yan Yu could react, Xie Li hugged him tightly, burying her face in his chest and whimpering, "Ah Yu, you scared me to death, it was so scary..."
Yan Yu's face darkened: "You...!"
"I'm fine," Xie Li quickly said, "It was just really scary just now..."
Before Yan Yu could even get angry and throw Xie Li away, he heard applause behind him, which startled him. He turned around and saw Luo Zheng and Shen Jin.
Shen Jin seemed overjoyed to see this scene upon reaching the lake, a bright smile on his face. He looked at them, clapping as he said, "Congratulations, President Yan, you've brought your beauty home."
"Shen Jin..." Yan Yu called his name in a low, hoarse voice, his gaze fixed on him. Then, realizing something, he suddenly pushed Xie Li away from his arms. "No!"
“What do you mean no?” Xie Li immediately said pitifully, “You don’t even know how to comfort me…”
"Get away!" Yan Yu shoved Xie Li, who was trying to get close again, away, giving him a murderous glare and staring at him until he stood still. He hurriedly explained to Shen Jin, "He pounced on me himself, just now..."
"Oh, oh, oh, oh," Shen Jin replied with a string of "oh"s, saying nonchalantly, "Whatever makes you happy."
After saying that, he didn't even look at Yan Yu, but instead took Luo Zheng's arm and said with a smile, "Let's go, we shouldn't disturb the young couple's romance."
Yan Yu grew anxious, his voice hoarse: "Shen Jin!"
The person he called didn't even listen, and walked away with Luo Zheng, arm in arm, leaving him with their backs, looking so indifferent.
Yan Yu wanted to chase after him to explain, but then he couldn't help but laugh self-deprecatingly. What was there to explain? What was there to explain? Shen Jin didn't care who he was with or who he was with now...
And if he were to run up to him and explain, he'd only be asking for trouble and being presumptuous... Besides, he was arm-in-arm with another man, looking so happy... Would it be appropriate for him to chase after him...?
After walking arm in arm with Luo Zheng for a while, Shen Jin let go of her arm and stopped under a large, deserted tree. He twisted his stiff neck, stretched his shin, and said with a smile, "It's really not good to stay in the hospital all the time. I should go out and move around more often."
He seemed to have completely forgotten about Yan Yu not long ago, and didn't care at all.
Luo Zheng didn't ask any more questions. There happened to be a small shop nearby. Thinking that the two of them had been shopping for quite a while and that Shen Jin was probably thirsty, she said, "Wait here for a while, I'll go buy you a bottle of water."
“Okay,” Chen Jin said with a smile, “I want milk tea.”
"Okay, I'll be right there." Luo Zheng smiled at him.
After Luo Zheng left and went into the shop, Shen Jin, who was standing under the tree, lost his smile, pursed his dry lips, lowered his eyes slightly, and sighed softly without saying a word.
While Shen Jin was in a daze, he didn't feel anyone silently approaching him from behind. Suddenly, the other person raised their hand, grabbed something, and swiftly struck him on the back of the head—
"Uh..." Shen Jin's face suddenly turned pale. Before he could turn his head to look, everything went black and his body swayed as he was about to fall to the ground.
Instead of letting him faint and fall to the ground, the person who attacked him roughly caught him, hoisted him onto their shoulder, and quickly disappeared into the dense bushes behind them, leaving no trace...
